Pardon my stupidity (again) but is Illuminated the name of the movie?  I don't get out much.... :D

Pappy'll pardon yours if'n you'll pardon mine. "Everything is Illuminated" is the title. It's a little quirky.

I also watched "Good Night and Good Luck." It was slower than Pappy in January. I like ol' Ed Murrow but wasn't all that thrilled with this here movie.

OHH!  I saw the trailers for that Murrow movie on the Barbara Walters special - you know the one where she flirted shamelessly with ol' George Clooney - Anyway... I think Murrow's story would be interesting, but I could hardly keep my eyes open during the previews....  Looked like it was slow as molasses....

LOL!

Sometimes I am just so thick headed... I thought you meant that everything IN THE MOVIE was illuminated or something... Whatever that would mean... This is what I get when I try to talk about cultural stuff.....

Pappy almost picked that'n up the other day at Eduardo McKay's!
Great minds think alike. Apparently ours do too. Hee hee!

You know, Pappy, I looked for it at McKay's, but I guess I didn't know WHERE to look for it! Maybe when they get in their new digs I'll have more luck figuring out where everything is! I could wander around in there for hours, but I don't go often enough now to be familiar with where everything is....

I was still able to get a paperback copy of DaVinci for under $5 at Wally World.... ♥♥♥

Maybe it made a difference that I saw it in a theatre, but the spoose and I both REALLY liked "Good Night and Good Luck." ♥♥♥

I bought mine Wednesday afternoon! (at Battleground store) I haven't started reading yet, though. Am deliberately waiting until "vacation." ♥♥♥

PAPPY! Were you at McKay's Wednesday afternoon? I was there early afternoon!

In fact, while I'm writing about cultural stuff, might as well put in a plug for another bit o' culture in our area.

I have a relative who's a big Kevin Harvick fan, so after pointing out where he's building his new house, we proceeded on to his shop in K'ville. It was pretty quiet when we were there, but there was a nice display of pictures and uniforms and a nice gift shop. His two dogs greeted us! ♥♥♥

I FINISHED IT!!!

Read the Da Vinci Code and it was pretty good.... Puttin' it on the Forum Bookshelf if anyone wants to pick it up and read it......

Somebody's gotta read it so I can discuss it!!!!

Can't wait for the movie.  It ought to be a good one since Opie's directin' it.

He's learned a lot since he did that mermaid flick...

Tom Hanks (Opie's favorite leading man) will play the lead character, Robert Langdon.  Paul Bettany who I enjoy more in a supporting role than the lead (Played a Wonderful Chaucer in A Knight's Tale and played the forgettable lead in Wimbeldon) will play Silas the albino monk, and Doc Oc from Spidey 2 will play Bishop Aringarosa....

Can't wait!!! May 19th!!!!

I can't wait to see that movie - love Mr. Tom Hanks! My dilemma - I have not read the book yet so I'm wondering should I read the book first or just wait for the movie and maybe read the book after the movie?

That's always a tough one Kris....  In this book, there are a lot of thought processes that they use to break the codes that I am interested to see how they convey to the big screen....

If you have time, read the book.... The book was captivating and you kept reading only because you wanted the answer to the next code and you wanted to know who "The Teacher" is..... I can't imagine wanting to read it if I knew what was gonna happen.

Now that C.S. Lewis is fashionable all of a sudden, I'd like to recommend a couple of his less-celebrated books: "The Screwtape Letters" and "Mere Christianity." The former is wicked and vicious to the point of hilarity; the latter is profound and, to many readers, life-changing.

Pappy's gonna get my hands on a copy o' the Da Vinci Code an' read the critter 'fore long. Yeah, Crackah, ol' Opie makes some good movies. That sounds like it'll be a good'ern.

Pappy likes C.S. Lewis, too. I read all the Narnia series years ago. Most things Pappy's done were did years ago. Anyway, I read another series of C.S. Lewis books (seems like it was a trilogy) 'bout a guy named Ransom goin' to other planets. The symbolism is similar to what he done in Narnia. Pappy has always been impressed by the way ol' C.S. could take such complex concepts as the ones he deals with, an' make 'em so accessible without soundin' fanatical or preachy or else dumbin' 'em down with the same tired ol' clichés.

OK, Crackah, Pappy done nabbed a copy of The Da Vinci Code through a member of a ultra secret society. I started readin' the varmint an' couldn't put it down! Right up Pappy's alley. Plumb fascinatin'. Started measurin' the young'uns' leg bones an' such to see how they PHI'd out. Hee hee!

Pappy's always been intrigued by the Yin and Yang concept of opposin' forces an' the need fer balance. I recall ol' Leo did a series o' drawin's about cataclysims--what happens when them opposin' forces gets unbalanced--Boom-shakalaka! Seemed to have it on his mind a lot. Interestin' about the villification of pagan symbols an' such, too, which reminds me of a Taoist proverb I always liked:

"Words have an ancestor.
Affairs have a sovereign."

Meanin' things just don't come into bein' from nuthin'...they's a reason fer thangs. An' people ought to know why they believe what they believe an' if they actually believe it.

P-A-P-P-Y = 5 letters, 3 of which are the same. 5 divided by 3 = 1.6666
F-A-T = 3 letters. P-A-P-P-Y = 5 letters. 5 divided by 3 = 1.6666

If PHI is 1.618, then I reckon Pappy's a little over PHI'd. Prob'ly too much PHI'd food. Pappy likes PI, too. Hee hee!

I'll be done with the book this weekend at the rate I'm a-goin'. Maybe Macca'll be done too an' we can have us a decent book discussion.

YEE HAW!

YAY!!!  Glad you found a copy of it Pappy!!!

You other folks will just have to read the book to find out all the fascinating stuff about PHI (pronounced "FEE" I think) cause I sure can't remember it all.....

Ok.. here's one...

C-R-A-C-K-E-R-J-A-X  (10 letters)

.1618 X CrackerJax = 1.618

hmmmmmm

Ok... stink at code writing.

I the book, PHI is 1.618 the most beautiful number ever..... Dan Brown's/Robert Langdon's opinion, not mine.....

Personally, I like the number 8.  If drawn correctly, it's symmetrical.

Symmetry makes me happy.
