Bama -

Saw that Barber of Seville opera on Bugs Bunny once.... He dressed Elmer's head up like a big old fruit salad....

:P

I guess I'm having trouble with this culture thing.....

HAHA yeah surprisingly, Bugs Bunny was full of culture/history references. Some of the bits you had to be somewaht knowledgeable to know who/what the reference was to. Although kids could "just watch" it. I loved the Barber of Seville episode. I also enjoyed the mob episodes. Those were and still are hilarious.

This book Steve has brought up seems full of wisdom. Maybe we could read it and discuss as a group, sort of like an on-line book club? I mean, we might need to be kind of organized (!) about it, with deadlines and all, but it could be kind of neat! What do you think?
Don't really like this....

Quote from a book I am reading titled "Don't Pee on My Leg & Tell Me It's Raining"

Political & Racial Racketeers:  Where is your constituency?

One of the depressing realities of our society is that a few ideologues with loud voices seem to have a disproportionate influence over our lives.  They accomplish this with intimidation.  If you have the audacity to disagree with them publicly, there is no reasoned debate.

They give you a label and you are supposed to capitaulate, or tuck your tail between your legs & fade away.  Being a bully is one of the oldest - and most effective - scams around.

You can rob people blind, until they realize that you are full of baloney

Gee - who does THIS sound like ?????????

Bama, I copied this from the Concerned Citizens thread in Summerfield! All of the above is actually a post from Steve.... (Still getting used to what I can do...)

Steve also stated over there that the book, due to the content of the rest of the book, might not be worth purchasing.

I'd just about buy it for the title alone....

I like the "book club" idea macca... Ya'll don't choose Sci-Fi or you'll see just how quiet I can be....  :D

Hee hee!
You know yo' Pappy wouldn't do that to you.

I like the book club idea, too, but I can't think of a good book right off.

Pappy's brain needs a little down time. I'll check in later, you all.

If'n ya'll liked Thunderheart, the movie with Val Kilmer as a Native 'Merican FBI agent investigatin' bad doin's on the Sioux reservation, ya might like some o' the whodunits by Tony Hillerman. They's a little bit o' whodunit with some Navajo myth an' legend intertwined, but at a slower pace than Thunderheart. Pappy's read a couple of 'em (Falling Man and Gila Man) and while the plots are not overly intricate, the stories are deceptively deeper than they appear on the surface.

Since much of the topic is about books and literature, and since the Rev only reads the top notch latest books from the NYT Best Sellers list, is there any need by Northwest HS or any of the other local schools for The Northwest Observer readers to consider perhaps contributing their well read/used books to the Northwest HS library? Sort of like a Friends of the Library program?

For those of us who subscribe to popular magazines are there any outlets such as the local schools or nursing homes which would benefit or appreciate receiving recent read copies of these publications?

It just makes more sense to somehow recycle books and magazines and save our planet from yet more landfills while benefitting others who like to read and learn.
