If ya'll want to see a good movie, go see Walk the Line. I'm not a Johnny Cash fan or even a big country music fan but I LOVED this movie! (Even got a Johnny Cash CD for Christmas :)) I'm anxious for the Oscar nominations - hope Reese Witherspoon and J. (can't spell it!) Phoenix are both nominated. Great acting and a great story!

Memories of a Geisha takes it's readers into the enchanting world of the geisha. This is a difficult and sometimes cruel way of life. It's a true account of a woman's life told to the author in confidence. This book read well. I can't wait to see it on the big screen. Unfortunately when a book is made into a movie, it usually is a disappointment... but I will be there.

Great thread Pappy!

Has anyone seen "King Kong?" My older kid and friends (older teens) went to see it but left about mid-way thru -- didn't like it at all. Shem said about half the audience had left by the time they did....

I haven't seen it, but I've never liked any of the remakes of "Kong" as well as I liked the original....

Thats funny to hear that most had left by half way. It must be terrible. Of course those same ones might would walk out of the original if they were to see it.

So, a disappointing thing happened today. I finished my book last night and upon going to the librabry today to get # 10 of the Aubreyad, I couldnt get into the library. I suddenly realized that they had locked me out. I was so mad. You guys dont think the library was closed today do you? I think they just locked me out.

I know Pappy (I think) referred to it earlier, but you guys have heard of Edward McKay used book store in GSO on Mill St. haven't you?

I go in there and buy my books, used CD's and DVD's by the grocery sack...

Can't beat the library for new releases though...

Yeah for the series I am reading, sometimes I go through the book in 2-3 weeks and its just not practical for em to go buying all 20 & 1/2 of them. (the author died in the middle of writing the 21st). Therefore the library is convenient to my location and cheap (free). I dont see the need in buying and keeping these as I will probably never take the time to read them all again. (even though they are all very good).

That's the nice thing about Ed McKay... You get a sack full of books, take them back in the next time and they'll give you store credit for them.... They buy most  books back unless they have a ton of that book in stock.

For books, I hardly ever pay cash... just keep trading them back in and use store credit.  I don't have a due date...

If I start buying DVD's or music, then I have to shell out the cash, but lots cheaper than retail.....

Well, Of course it depends on the condition of the book.... and the demand for it... and what they have in stock.

If you are buying classics, you're gonna usually get all your money back on them... romance... (I KNOW you don't read Fabio Pappy, but they're HUGE sellers even thought most people read them in secret) Anyway, they always buy back romance novels cause they know they can sell them,

Other fiction, just basically depends on their stock on hand, popularity of the book and how quick they think they can resell it.

It's a great place to buy non fiction books if you need something to warm your coffee table, and better than other options for resale (Yard sale, goodwill etc.) but you aren't gonna make anything near what you paid for a nice hardback.

Basically you might have to pay something additional if you are buying/trading  hardbacks, and a couple of bucks for a big old sack full of books, but the fact that it's so cheap, you can store a few in the garage and you don't have to worry whether the Library is gonna be open on MLK day or not!

I worked in a used book store part time for a couple of years.... Not Ed McKay...

OH... and while you're reading, be sure to peel the Ed McKay sticker off cause they will pay less if you bought it from them....

Read this earlier but couldn't post right then.... Good info, Crackah! I used to go to McKay's all the time, and I know the Literacy Library at Stokesdale Elem has worked with them to exchange books donated for that but aren't appropriate.....Used to take the kids and we'd get games as well.....I was very impressed on Friday when my oldest asked for directions there! Thinking, GREAT! Shem HAS been paying attention when we said "You don't HAVE to buy things new..." and that shem was actually going to look there before paying bookstore price for some needed book....... Turns out shem was looking for a sporting goods store (or something like that) and shem knew it was located beside/near McKay's..... Oh well...... ♥♥♥

Sorry Macca all that stuff in the sporting goods store is new.  Maybe next time.  Shem will learn, sounds like shme has a good example. :)

Ed McKay also has those games that the kids play.  I have purchased several X Box games they are CHEAP and they have worked just fine.

Great place too if you are planning a trip traveling.  I never travel without a visit to ed McKays.  I always find something that is helpful.  Sometimes people make notes in the book, like "don't bother, great prices, food stinks, not worth the wait, cute male waiters" Very Helpful.
