Best Picture: CRASH.
Pappy heard it was good. Apparently, Pappy heard right.

Best Performance by a Actress in a Leadin' Role: REESE WITHERSPOON in WALK THE LINE.
Pappy saw that'n an' I'll have to agree, she done a outstandin' job as June Carter. She done easily outshined that Brokeback refugee, Joaquin, who done a decent job as Johnny Cash, but Pappy thought he played him a mite too childlike. Johnny was a complicated man an' ol' Joaquin didn't quite fill him out enough. (Easy, Sheriff...)

Best Adapted Screenplay: LARRY McMURTRY (of Lonesome Dove fame) for BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN.
Annie Proulx, who wrote the original Brokeback short story, is a amazin' writer. All her stories have a hard edge to 'em that can be a leetle hard to take. She also wrote The Shippin' News which was made into a not so good movie. The book is much, much better. By the way, she ought to be ashamed of herself!

Yeah, George Clooney won somethin' or other...

Thanks for the update ya'll.

Yea, Baba Wawa was pulling for George to win. (BTW Macca... Ol' George is a handsome devil, but he's gettin' some round chops on him...) I think it was for the Edward R. Murrow Movie maybe.  I think that'll be a good movie, but I don't want a High School named after him.....

I like the name Northern just fine, however I think O'Henry would be a better choice if they have to choose a person's name.

Do we already have a William Sydney Porter High?  I don't think so.....

Haven't seen Walk the Line, but we bought it this past weekend.  Will report my findings when I watch it.  I probably don't know as much about the man in black as Pappy does though.

Does June CC do the "Bend and Snap?"  (Had to see Legally Blonde to get that one....)  :D

Yea he talked about Siriana (sp?) on that special too.  Didn't pay much attention.  I was waiting for news on the pig that he lives with.

Because of the high ticket items on grocery shelves, my food-shopping events are fast taking the place of my cultural events.  I am mystified that all of a sudden the Southern Market on 220 has almost no customers!  I was there one day last week around 12:30 and there were five (5)cars/customers in the parking lot.  I went on Sunday afternoon and there were maybe 10 or 12.  Today, in passing, I noticed that there were just a few cars.  Have I missed a bad meat report, or a thumbs-in-the soup recall?  Someone tell me what's going on.  It's like a morgue in there!

IMHO, (H being honest in this case) My wife and I used to shop at Bi-Lo and when they switched to SFM, we continued to shop there, but everytime we went, we got less and less for the amount of money that we had budgeted for groceries. We took the same amt of money and bought the same things. Food Lion now seems to be a better deal. Bi-Lo would have many specials (BOGO, double coupons, etc) SFM is still doing some of these things but doesnt seem to be as beneficial to the customer.

P.S. off topic I believe. maybe. Im not sure about this area since technically it is in MAAN but is meant for reading, movies, culture etc.

So.. Barber of Seville will be performed in Raleigh the weekend of June 5, I beleive. Anyone heard of any Messiah performances for Easter, or close to?

"The Chronicles of Narnia" was a fantastic movie. I didn't see many of the other nominated films--most of them were box office flops--but "Narnia" should have been showered with awards. Imagine that: a movie that's good for kids! And better yet, maybe it inspired some ankle-biters to turn off the tv and video games once in a while to read a book. (This is also the beauty of the Harry Potter phenomenon.)

Community Theatre of Greensboro is doing Beauty and the Beast beginning tonight! I'm taking the Mini-McGirls on Sunday afternoon.

Going to check out Matthew McConaughey-hey-hey-hey :D in Failure to Launch tomorrow night. Actually, just as interested to see Terry Bradshaw - I hear he's a real asset to the movie ;):D:shock:

I'll report on my cultural endeavors next week!

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Do NOT bother with Failure to Launch. I give it a 3.5 out of 10. Maybe DVD-worthy but was not theatre-worthy in my opinion.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT #2

Get yerself down to the Carolina Theatre next weekend for Beauty and the Beast if at all possible! WOW! I've seen the Broadway production and enjoyed this MORE!! Amazing acting, singing, set design - all the McGirls loved everything about it!! :D

Ritz Bits went with a friend yesterday and saw Beauty and the Beast.  She loved it!!

I saw it on Broadway and caught myself dozing halfway thru... Of course I had done 3 days worth of New York in one day and was extremely tired.  I do remember the costumes were FABULOUS though!  I wasn't excited about seeing it in GSO because of that, and was glad someone else volunteered to take my littlest, but I am glad to hear it's better than broadway.

Kris... Failure to Launch... uh, isn't that with Matthew McConaughey??

 PEOPLE MAGAZINE'S SEXIEST MAN ALIVE???

It's an automatic 6.0 when his name comes across the credits... ask Macca if you don't believe me!:D

So, spoose and I went to the grand opening ceremonies of Stonefield Cellars this afternoon. Very lowkey and nice... There was a pretty good turnout (small parking lot, handicapped lot both full, plus cars parked along the long driveway). They had two service areas, one in the regular tasting room and one in the storage area I guess it was.... Volunteers were helping pour wine, so some knew more about it than others... Nice tasty wines!

For $5.00 you get a free glass, get to taste their wines, h'ord(you know -- finger foods, which were yummy) and then a glass of sangria, which is a wine punch.... You put your name in for some drawings, but I don't know when they'll be held...

AND, they had a nice little musical group -- The Chicken Strings, or something like that. It was all nice and homey.... I'd encourage you to go. I think the paper said it's open today till 6 and then again tomorrow noon to 6. (Check the paper to be sure... There was an article in there about it.)

Hoo wee! Thanks fer the tour, Macca! A winery really adds class to the joint. I'll have to kick some mud off my truck an' see if'n I cain't find my clean hat when I go up yonder.

Pappy don't know much about wine except which end o' the bottle it comes out of. So far, I've been able to squeek by with that limited set o' skills. Hee hee!

Pappy's glass or three of red wine is a nutritious part of a well balanced Mediterranean diet, whether you're hungry or not.

PAPPY! I'm sure you'd fit right in wherever you go!!! ♥♥♥ And from what I could tell of these folks that are runnin' the winery, they'd appreciate characters -- and you certainly are one!!! ♥♥♥ This fella said he'd been makin' wine since he's 14:shock: growin' up in California!!!
