OK Jim, let's forget about this forum, let's you & I drive down to Shorty Wilsons grocery store on Pleasant Ridge.
let's walk back into the "place friends greet", keep quiet ( I know that's hard) and just listen to the conversation. OK, heck, let's participate in the discussion, but not introduce ourselves.
There will be some spirited discussions, and polite banter. We won't know any of the players names, they will be anonymous. But they will be voicing opinions, exercising their first amendment rights.
Now let's drive away. Are those anonymous opinions any less valid because you didn't know their names?
If people don't like what is said at Shorty's store, nobody is forcing them to walk into the store.
If people don't like the way this forum allows folks to participate, nobody is forcing them to lurk, or to log on, or to post.
The policies state quite clearly that participants are to respect others rights to remain anonymous, public speculation on someone's name is not allowed.

Steve, for the record, I am not speculating on any one's name. (It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out who the regular anonymous posters are anyway, as you so correctly pointed out. Including some double anonymous posters).
My comments and critique was more generally addressed toward an antiquated system which I think actually discourages participation and new members, while also serving to squelch diversity and dissent.
This whole forum is starting to more resemble a chamber of commerce or in-house corporate mouthpiece anyway, with new ideas and dissent from some artificially imposed status quo frowned upon if not condemned.
Let me know what day and time on the visit to Shorty Wilson's store and I will be happy to meet you there for your challenge, and then point out the speciousness of your argument by example once we leave. You're simply not comparing apples to apples.
Just as one example, we would certainly know and could be assured from simply a visual observation of any speaker at Shorty's that the person we were listening to or dialoguing with was not a 10 year old, which we can't do here with anonymous posters and postings.
One of the advantages of Shorty's as well as this forum, is that as individuals we can always choose to simply ignore specific speakers or posters and their inquiries or comments absent their willingness to reciprocate in sharing their identity.
Like you say, the doors that lets us walk in also lets us walk out when we tire of needless misinformed banter or downright ignorance. With that goes the other points of view and dissent and thinking outside the box, all of which I sense aren't wanted around here anyway.
I just don't get the lack of courage. And like so many others who wonder, I do not understand their cowardice unless they truly have something horribly unimaginable to hide.

Jane, I'm ffffrreeeezzzzziiinnnggg.
Looks like around 6" out the window, I'm going to put some warm thermals on before I venture out.
Have to drive about 1 hour south of Toronto to Guelph Ontario this am for a meeting at Chrysler.
This afternoon fly over to Detroit, spend the night there.
Flight last night was a mini-Jet Blue, took 1-1/2 hours from leaving gate to take off, took forever to get thru immigration..........then Hertz ran out of cars, had to wait 1/2 hour for cars to get turned back in and processed.

Macca- Getting better and better. Torn Tendon still catches my breath when I turn a certain way but less pain most of the time.
Steve I guess you don't want to know it will be 60 here today. Stay warm. You will probably get home just in time for the cold rain this week end but spring is coming.
Everybody have a great day.
