That doesn't mean there isn't room for both of us here....

Yes. That is the message that I hear over and over again from the people with computers out here. Almost every day I engage in morning discussions with a fairly large group of citizens up at the Family Diner, at least 8 or 10 of whom own computers and otherwise participate and peruse the Internet, none of whom participate in this forum, yet are otherwise active participants in the political and community process. And in the course of other fairly regular travels and visits, I have heard the same from others in Summerfield and Oak Ridge who don't participate.

Anonymity allows the cheap shots and put downs which you mention, from those who don't have the COURAGE (edited by SMS) to speak without hiding behind a rock of anonymity.

The unwillingness and lack of openness to the voices and viewpoints of diversity and dissent are the other reasons many other very real people who tell me they don't participate here.

It is no wonder that some of you may not hear the voices of dissent here, and then when you do hear them on election day, you simply don't understand where those voices came from and why you never heard their messages before.

Is it all that unusual to have anonymous postings on a forum such as this? I believe, in fact, that many actually instruct you when you log on not to include your full name....

Actually, Jimbo, I don't worry about who is saying what.... I enjoy the sharing of ideas .... and for the record, I don't think there are all that many of the "cheap shots and put downs"..... and the ones that are here aren't always from anonymous posters.

No, saying it's just an excuse is not the whole reason.

There are people in the world, who enjoy hacking activities, and try to trace anonymous names back to the very computer they are logged onto.

If people have this much free time, and go to this much trouble, then the user has to be concerned about what other lengths the hacker is going to go to.  Some think hackers are intelligent computer geeks, I think they are unbalanced people with too much free time on their hands.

Hackers fall into that general category spammers fall into, ie irresponsible behavior to hurt others.

Jim This  forum is a community inhabited by people I do not necessarily know. Macca, Cracker, Pappy are just a few of the people who meet here.

If today was my first day here, I would not expect to be comfortable. Sort of like going to a new church, you don't know who's related to who so you lurk on the edges until you figure it out. I think this forum is the same way. Why should it be any different for others? There are lurkers and there are loud mouths. We know which side we are on.

Just because I don't know these people on this forum does not mean their thoughts and ideas are invalid. I don't know Raspberry, Editor Johnson, or Jerry Bledsoe but they have excellent thoughts sometimes and not so excellent points other times but because I don't know them doesn't change that fact.

I have belonged to world wide forums where I didn't know anybody or even what part of the world they came from but we exchanged ideas. Just because this is supposedly a local forum do I have to know who everybody is in order for their ideas to be taken seriously. I don't think so.

All the time that people are taking to try and figure out who is who why don't they take that wasted time and give something positive to the community.  In the meantime let people freely exchange ideas whoever they are and where ever they come from.

Morning all. It certainly is foggy and dreary. Sort of typical for February and after all it is Monday morning.

Do something nice for somebody today!!!

Jane, I must say I think you set a fine example for us.... You always seem to have a positive outlook and a cheery word! Will be especially alert today for the opportunity....:)

Crackah! You let your kids watch cartoons in the morning?!!? And there was something else you did back earlier this winter that made me think the little maccas would LOVE having you around! You're just a big kid yourself, huh???:D (We only watch the news at our house in the a.m. -- and that's distracting enough!!)♥♥♥
