You know, there must be something wrong with me.... I just cannot fathom why we (well.... Americans in general) are so interested in the whole Anna Nicole Smith saga.... I cannot believe it is still getting the attention it is! Just flipped the TV on to see what's on Larry King Live.... and there he is -- doing yet ANOTHER show about her.... I just don't get it.... She was a sad spectacle when she was alive, and the review of her life now that she's dead doesn't cast her in any better light. I don't understand the fascination with her or what's going to happen to her body or who the father of her baby is or anything else....

Aren't there more important things we should be fascinated by? The beauty of the world around us? The ugliness of the world around us? The wonderful acts of kindness around us? The great inhumanity around us? The love we experience? The hatred we see around us? Hunger? Poverty? Generosity? Genius? Ignorance?

You forgot to mention the ongoing messy divorce of Sir Paul. And then there is the 'astronut' Lisa Nowak. And let's not forget Britany Spears. Oh gosh and what about Paris Hilton? Don't The Donald and Rosie deserve honarable mention at least? And whatever happened to Miss USA?

I find the answer to your larger question in La Bruyère's comment:

"Life is a tragedy for those who feel, and a comedy for those who think."

Ok I finished watching Idol. Brian and Simon need to get over it. The girls were head and shoulders over the boys from last night. I think there is going to be a girl Idol this year judging from the two nights. Some really good songs tonight. I will be glad when we get them weeded down some and there is more music and less talk.

My husband is watching The Game and my son keeps calling from Ohio to discuss it with him.

All the chicks survived today much to the dismay of the cats who are sitting out side the door waiting for the chicken bisquits to be shared.

I'm with you, Macca. One of the things that's so annoying to me is that anyone can say anything about the woman, and she's not here to dispute anything. I hate that -- because I want to know both sides of the story...any story! I flipped past Larry King tonight and caught about 30 seconds of what was being said--and immediately flipped to another channel. It seems like everybody who ever knew Anna Nicole is looking to get their face on TV or their hands on that baby of hers. I feel sorry for her because of all the things she suffered during the last months of her life (her dead son, all the controversy, paternity issues, lawsuits, etc.). I wouldn't wish that kind of stuff even on someone I couldn't stand. Now I feel sorry for the baby. She's got no mother, and as she gets old enough to begin looking into who her mom was, she's going to find all this cr@p that's been flying around for the past two weeks (and however long it continues to fly). Between all the Anna Nicole stuff and minute-by-minute updates on Britney's daily progression down the spiral highway to Looneyville, I'm almost to the point where I don't want to look at the news. There are SO many more worthwhile things to tell people about, yet the big news networks can't talk about anything but celebrity madness.

I mean this with all honesty -- I am REALLY glad I do not work for a big news conglomerate. I would much rather write articles about real people doing real things. I truly enjoy interviewing people local to our area and finding out what cool people we have around here. (We've got a lot of them!) I am fascinated by acts of kindness and the generosity and bravery and all the other great things I see in this community, and I consider myself really lucky that I get to share these things with our readers. If I had to sit down with these silly celebrities, I'd probably choke to death on the urge to tell 'em what spoiled brats they are and that they are doing themselves no favors by surrounding themselves with yes-people.  What they need is someone in the entourage whose job it is to thump 'em a good one in the head when they start acting like the center of the universe. I would make a terrible suck-up, but I think I'd make one heck of a head-thumper! ;)

Yikes -- I just had a scary thought: I wonder what Britney would shave off if someone told her to build a bridge and get over herself? She's already gone Sinead O'Connor, so I guess she'd have to lose the eyebrows and go for the pop tart alien visitor look.

Mr. Mike you will traumatize my new babies talking that way.

It is a lovely morning out. I talked to an adjuster from Ohio yesterday and she told me that they were having the thickest fog she had ever seen. When I told her we were sunny and close to 70 she didn't want to talk to me any more. Its a little foggy here today and I hope it goes away quickly as I am leaving for Chapel hill in a few minutes.

Everybody have a good day.
