I'm not sure I mentioned it Salty, but I'm sooooooo glad you're back!
We missed your pearls of wisdom while you were on hiatus!
Figured the threat to our "hometown security" would bring a few newbies into the forum, but I never DREAMED you'd find your way back! As Pappy would say, YEE HAW!
Pappy's gonna say you're his hero... I just know it.
oh yea.
WELCOME TO THE PLAYGROUND!!!

I gotta go do something semi-constructive Salty, but I do hate to leave you so soon after your miraculous reappearance!
Don't you DARE get lost again!
You might have a couple of forum pages to catch up on while I'm away.......
I'll be back later!
BOO YAA!

Salty Dog is Pappy's Hero!
Sure is good to hear from you, Salty!
Yeah, global warmin', suicide bombers, genocide, antibiotic-resistant bacteria...even school overcrowdin' an' contaminated wells...they all fade in importance when they're stood up next to the real global terror...
SPENDIN' THEIR TAX MONEY ON OUR KIDS!

Today we went about 1-1/2 hrs away to a town called Suzhow (Sue Show)
Toured a place called Emperor's garden, I took a bunch of photo's, but couldn't shrink them down enough to post here. Emperor's Garden looked a zillion years old, but beautiful. Those emperor's didn't cut any corners for their own comfort.
Thought this tree was kind of cool.......completely hollowed out but still alive.
(PS - I don't know why this picture is showing up on the posting (for me anyway) I uploaded it the same way as all others, sorry)

Now.........for the Chinese version of "sewage treatment" in the small chinese towns.
What you see in the middle of this boat is human "guano".
The operators are gently sloshing the boat back and forth, the "guano" sloshes out the side, and leaves a black trail behind the boat in the water.
And if that don't beat all, there is a woman upstream from this photo doing her laundry in the same canal.

Here is a version of a Chinese pool hall.
Couldn't hardly believe it........there were several other tables off to the left of these also......all were busy.
Apparently they don't get all concerned about humidity and table warpage.

Seemed to see more children as we got more toward the interior of china, but as you can see, their transportation modes prevent the same level of safety as we are accustomed to in the USA.
This was not an isolated instance, since bicycles & scooters are the prime transporation over here, this type of site was the norm.
No helmets, no belts, just hang on for dear life. Put on top of this, they drive like complete maniacs over here.......horns are substituted for brakes, and basically there are no driving rules.

Here is the scene I saw for 75 solid miles one direction today......solid construction of either factories or worker housing. The industrial park I visited was 35 SQUARE MILES !!!
You can say I am officially afraid after seeing this......China is cleaning our US clock with taking jobs off shore. Yeah, I knew NC lost a bunch of furniture jobs, but had no idea the explosiveness of growth over here.
At the risk of offending some people, I'll take the risk.
The American people, and the NC people have got to get their heads out of their duffs where jobs & economy are concerned.
While people are whining about FEDEX harming the wetlands & killing frogs, while whining about all the corporate incentives Dell computer received, China built 1000 plants to NC's one (don't know exact ratio, but it's not far off).
The communist government doesn't have to negotiate with environmentalists or federal governments, they just slam in the factories. No Dwayne, I'm not campaigning for communism, I enjoy democracy as much as the next guy. I just hate seeing jobs disappear to countries that don't fight them.
The factories I'm seeing over here (Samsung, Whirlpool, General Electric, Bosch and 1,000+ others) are the empty factories in the USA. We're losing the manufacturing battle, and the jobs that go along with it. Mexico is even losing to China.
http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/06/11/news/coal.php
China is opening a new coal fired power plant every 7 - 10 days, the brew of toxic chemicals spewing from the smokestacks are blowing over to the USA, and un-doing all the air cleanup's the USA has been working on for decades. Inhale everyone.
As you can tell, this trip has been a downright scary eye opening experience for me. Zero unemployment is hard to fathom.........we better figure out ways to pull the jobs back to the USA, and it won't be at UAW $65.00/hr.
