Visited some fambly over the weekend and asked if any of them had heard the cow thing..... They had! Got me interested in trying it out again!!

CRACKAH!! We could go read Harry Potter in the meadow and see if any cows come and gather round! (Or muggles? Or wizards? Or if any horrible storms come up?) Hmmmmm.... Maybe we should wait till you're through reading.....:D:shock:

Despite the troublin' dilemma the use o' action verbs introduces to any discussion o' leisurely lifestyles, ol' Pappy can think o' no better characterization o' my essential bein' than "one who actively pursues the art o' leisure." The Way o' the Hammock requires decades o' dedication to master until one may reach that imperturbable state o' bein' that has confused many a casual observer into thinkin' ol' Pappy's just snoozin'. How they wound me with their ignorance. Far be it from any true Gentleman o' Leisure to limit the scope o' his life's endeavors to mere snoozin', a triflin' parlor trick that even a dog can easily master with but one attempt. No, I am a warrior, a freedom fighter sworn to passively resist any an' all forms o' effort vaguely resemblin' work. My snore is my war cry!

Huh? Quittin' time? Why didn't somebody wake me up?!

Well I unfortunately missed morning today as lightening struck a bunch of stuff in the house in cluded but not limited to a phone, some of Clark's weather station stuff, the brand new hooked up last night router, the Bellsouth modem and the ethernet card in my computer. What a mess. I have this computer up but am waiting for John to come and rehook up the old router until we can replace the one we bought yesterday that has wifi capabilities. Our house hasn't been hit in a number of years. Thank goodness for the expensive surge protectors or things would have been infinitely worse. We are still finding stuff that is not working but I think we have figured out the worst of it. So I guess I will say good morning and afternoon.

Well I did discover more damage. The storm blew the ethernet card out of all three computers. So we have ther router up but it doesn't see my work computer or my husband's computer. Terry at BCU replaced this computers ethernet this afternoon but I didn't realize the other two had the same problem because the router was down at that time. What a mess.

Jane, I am so sorry to hear of your power surge problems and understand fully the mess and havoc that creates. We don't always appreciate broadband or simply take it for granted, until we have to go back to the stone age and resort to dial-up connections to the 'Net.

I lost two computers to lightning 3 weeks ago as well as two Bell South modems and ethernet during two different electrical storms. While I had surge protection for my power supplies, I did not at that time have surge protection for the incoming DSL and ethernet connections, although I do now.

Thankfully, Bell South replaced the two modems at no charge, saying they were still under warranty, and to their credit, both were sent overnight delivery at no charge to mitigate my distress. One computer was an older desktop which needed replacement anyway, and my laptop, which was newer, is being replaced with a brand new unit from Hewlett Packard under their regular warranty. The only good news, is that because HP and Bell South covered the replacements of their units, I did not have to file an insurance claim with my homeowners insurance.

But still, there was a loss of many hours in simply reloading all of the software, including business software that I carry on my computers and then working out all of the software glitches that come with program incompatibilities.

Good luck with your restoration and again, I am so sorry to hear of your loss and pain.

Jane, it started sprinkling over this way this morning around 4:30 and we have had a nice drizzily shower. Yesterday morning all heck seemed to break loose about the same time, with massive lightning and thunder and some areas over here in the Stokesdale area between here and Oak Ridge actually picked up around 2.5 inches of rain. We were talking yesterday morning up at the diner that some areas over this way have had up to around 6-7 inches of rain in the past 30 days or so.

Crackah must be doing more dancin' over this way than in SF.

Oh Mr. Mike I have the rooster protector on full blast!! Unfortunately no fence charger on the fence for the horses though. It is blown up and Hairbrush went to Home Depot last night bought a new one or so she thought. It was repackaged and broken so the horses will not have a hot wire tonight and more importantly the deer won't so they may jump in.

We do get spoiled Jim when things work as they should month after month and then something like this happens. My problem is I am so computer iliterate that I spend hours talking to myself trying to figure out how it should be working and what is wrong. My kids just go "Oh Mom do such and such" while my old stone age brain is trying to figure it out.

I have quit getting email updates when somebody posts on the forum. Is that part of my trouble or is it forum trouble?

Mr. Mike maybe your new Taser gun would work to take out that Rooster alarm that Jane is warning you about?
