Some major severe storms out this way this morning. Thunder, lightning and heavy rain shaking and waking this household. The police scanner was reporting a lot of emergency service activity out here with a large tree down over on Highway 220 at Joseph Hoskins Road and a major garage fire on Rumbley Road. WXII said the area around Highway 220 and 158 was hardest hit with heaviest rains and some flooding in these parts. Sure is nice to be inside and those courageous emergency service and fire department folks deserve a pat on the back for having to be out in the elements.

Flash flood warnings were issued and there are reports of up to 4 inches in some areas out here. Rockingham County Emergency Services has reported a car washed off the highway over a bridge crossing Price Mill Road off of Highway 158 East.

Jane's Monday matutinal message will follow shortly with more details from Summerfield.

Wow it was some storm last night! The weather scanner did not issue a thunderstorm warning, which made me wonder how bad the storms had to be, but issued a warning for heavy rain up to 5 inches by 6AM. The alarm went off at 3:30. Unfortunately our weather station is down since it got hit by lightening last Monday morning but from the looks of the buckets we got several inches but not 5. Hairbrush might disagree since her stalls had 3 or 4 inches standing in them. She will not need to go to the gym today after all the work she did before going to work. Our dog lot crashed to the ground from the weight of water. Husband is not sure he can straighten out the walls enough and we may have to replace it. We don't use it much but there is nothing better then to have a place to put a large muddy or stinky dog until you have time to do something about it. I swear next dog I get is going to be a Yorkie. Dealing with 90 and 100 pounds stinky dogs is tiresome.

Anyway hope everybody survive with minimal damage. As you can see the computers survived this time. Have a great day. We really needed this rain and thunderstorms in the safety of your house are pretty awesome.

Fox8 is reporting up to 2 feet of standing water on Ellison Road in Stokesdale and a water rescue on Price Mill Road in Rockingham County.

Emily Byrd just reported 10 inches of rain in the area of 220 and 158, in the Sportswood Road area!

Everybody be careful if you're out in that area this morning!!

Much obliged, Macca.

I don't see why folks should have to go to work again just because it's Monday again. If Monday wants to be the start of a work week, that's Monday's bidness. Why involve the rest of us innocent bystanders in Monday's sordid scheme?

Word from up at the diner this morning is that most of us right around Stokesdale got between 3 to 4 inches.

A couple of folks who live down Hudson James Road off of Highway 158 reported rainfalls this morning of 7 inches and 11 inches respectively. That makes for some flash flooding for sure.

Glad to hear everyone is OK.

I heard the following story this morning and it reminded me of Jane and her rooster and thought you all might get a kick out of hearing it too:

Brewster The Rooster

John the farmer was in the fertilized egg business.
He has several hundred young layers (hens), called
"pullets", and ten roosters, whose job it was to
fertilize the eggs.

Farmer John kept records and any rooster that didn't
perform went into the soup pot and was replaced.
That record keeping took an awful lot of his time,
so he bought a set of tiny bells and attached them to
his roosters.

Each bell has a different tone so Farmer John could tell
from a distance which rooster was performing.

Now he could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency
report simply by listening to the bells.

The farmer's favorite rooster was old Brewster, and a
very fine specimen he was too.

But on this particular morning John noticed old Brewster's
bell hadn't rung at all. John went to investigate.

The other roosters were chasing pullets, bells a ringing. The
pullets, hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover.

But to Farmer John's amazement, old Brewster has his
bell in his beak, so it couldn't ring. He would sneak up on
a pullet, do  his job and then, walk on to the next one.

John was so proud of old Brewster, he entered him in the
NC State Fair and Brewster became an overnight sensation
among the judges.

The result.....The judges awarded old Brewster not one but two
world renown awards:

The No Bell Piece Prize

and

The Pullet Surprise Award as well.

Now that's one smart rooster.

Here's a new one...  Does anybody know of a good chiropractor you'd recommend?  I've never been to one, but my sciatic nerve is killing me and I'm tired of taking medicine.  Right now, I'd try just about anything.  I'll also consider home remedies (Pappy, chicken biscuits don't help - done tried that).

mstone,

I'm just so impressed that you can spell sciatic!  Wow!

I haven't ever been to a chiropractor (another impressive word mind you) either, but I hear that "Dr. Hands" in Summerfield is pretty good.  He might be listed under another name.....Dr. Rod Brown.

I think he's still practicing out here anyway.... In the old Food Lion Shopping center where BCU computers is. I know several folks who've been to him and they have nothing but rave reviews.

As a side note: It's been reported that he looks sorta like Bama!;)
