Snow? Did you say SNOW? Like that white powdery stuff?
Now just how in the heck do you expect me to get and stay up on the roof today putting out Christmas lights if it snows?
Someone better bring me a big cup of hot chocolate or else be responsible if they find my body frozen to the roof.
Okay, Jimbo! Inquirin' minds wanna know!!! Did you get them lights up? Did anyone bring you hot chocolate (or some of Pappy's recipe?!?!?!)? If we have relatives flying in for the holidays will they be able to see your house from the air??? ♥♥♥

Word of the Day for Thursday, November 23, 2006
trencherman \TREN-chuhr-muhn\, noun:
A hearty eater.
Trencherman is from trencher, "a wooden board or platter on which food is served or carved" (from Medieval French trencheoir, from Old French trenchier, "to cut," from Latin truncare, "to lop off, to shorten by cutting") + man. It is related to trench, "a hole cut into the ground."

Macca, Thanks for the inquiry. Tree and outside decorating is what I am and will be doing most of the day today. Unfortunately, all of this inclement weather has thrown me several days behind, but I will be making a good showing starting this evening. It will take a week or so to get 'em all up.
Happy Turkey Day To All!

I forgot to mention, that the new movie Deck The Halls started playing in theaters yesterday and it is all about two competing squabbling families trying to outdo each other with their Christmas lights...I can't wait to go see it.
One of the lines which Danny DeVito uses in this movie is:
"I really want my house to be seen from space"
So, let's just say in answer to your question that I am still working on it.
Here is a link to the movie trailer:

Thanks for the link, Jimbo! Been seein' promos for that movie -- made me think of you, hangin' onto your roof as you strung those lights!!
Is this work you're doin' all at your house, or are you gonna be in downtown Stokesdale as well? ♥♥♥

The rest of this week I will be decorating at home and next week down in Stokesdale at the Arboretum. This nasty weather has really messed up whatever chances we had of getting a bunch of Christmas trees planted down there before the Stokesdale Christmas Parade which is on December 9. We will improvise and do the best we can down there but it may be later before we get the Christmas trees planted. We are also being challenged somewhat by some obstacles in trying to get electical service to the different sections of the Arboretum with which to power any lights. It makes me sad.......but such is life.

1) High level of computer skills
2) Nothing productive to do with those skills
3) Too much free time on their hands, resulting in mischief & malicious behavior.
4) A profound desire to see how far they can spread their malicious behavior, so they can brag to their other computer nerd buddies.
5) Lack of a feeling of social responsibility, ie not taking into account how much trouble they are going to cause others with their "fun".
No doubt others can add more, but this is what jumped into my mind.

Pappy likes that couch sign idee, Macca. I might have to steal that idee.
Mr Jim, we might cruise by your way in the next few days! Cain't wait! Do you get a Christmas card from the power company?
Them dang spammers rile me. I wish there was a way to ricochet it back to 'em.
Well, gotta eat!

ANOTHER word for today:
Tryptophan: an essential amino acid, (C8H6N)CH2CH(NH2)COOH, colorless, crystalline, and aromatic, released from proteins by tryptic digestion and a precursor of serotonin.
Tryptophan and turkey
According to popular belief, tryptophan in turkey meat causes drowsiness. Turkey does contain tryptophan, which does have a documented sleep-inducing effect as it is readily converted into serotonin by the body. However, tryptophan is effective only when taken on its own as a free amino acid. Tryptophan in turkey is found as part of a protein, and, in small enough amounts, this mechanism seems unlikely.
A more-likely hypothesis is that the ingestion of large quantities of food, such as at a Thanksgiving feast, means that large quantities of both carbohydrates and branched-chain amino acids are consumed. Like carbohydrates, branched-chain amino acids require insulin to be transduced through the myocyte membranes, which, after a large meal, creates a competition among the amino acids and glucose for insulin, while simultaneously creating tryptophan's reduced competition with other amino acids for the Large Neutral Amino Acid Transporter protein for transduction across the blood-brain barrier. The result is a greater availability of tryptophan, via the Large Neutral Amino Acid Transporter, for conversion into serotonin by the raphe nuclei, which is then available for conversion into melatonin by the pineal gland. Drowsiness is the result.
