Hee hee. The only thing "under 30" about Pappy is the number of livin' scalp hair follicles.

Under 30 could be considered a rough estimate of exactly one.

Hee hee! Much obliged, Crackah. Mammy said the same thing on last visitin' day. Except she worded it a little differ'nt. She said I looked natural on a chain gang, which, o' course, I took to mean she thought I looked like Cool Hand Luke. Hee hee!

With the 4th approaching I thought a few facts might make your holiday more meaningful.

There were 56 signers of the Declaration of Independence.

5 were captured by the British as traitors and tortured before they died.

9 fought and died during the war.

At the Battle of Yorktown, Thomas nelson Jr., noted thatGen. Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters. He quietly urged Gen. Washington to open fire. The home destroyed, Nelson died bankrupt.

John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying. Their 13 children fled for their lives. His fields and his gristmill were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his children vanished. A few weeks later he died from exhaustion and a broken heart.

They had security, but they valued liberty more. Standing tall, straight and unwavering, they pledged:"For the support of this declaration, with firm reliance on the protection of the divine providence, we mutually pledge to each other, our lives , our fortunes, and our sacred honor."

It's important to get the word out that patriotism is not a sin, and the Fourth of July has more to it than beer, picnics and baseball games

We're sooooooo lucky to be Americans!

Wonder what happened to Mr. Hart's 13 kids?  That's really worrisome to me. :?

Morning All!! Thank you FF12 for reminding us how really lucky we are that these men had the courage of their convictions. We could certainly be living in much different circumstances if they hadn't had the courage. If we could just convince people to vote and take part in their government. That our freedoms were because of the vision of others and if we expect these freedoms to continue we have to have conviction also. Thanks

It is a gorgeous morning out y'all. It was cooler outside then inside with the AC on. Do something kind for some one today.
