Some pretty good tennis goin' on at Wimbledon! Bartoli, from France, beat the #3 & #1 seeds to make the finals, where she is playing Venus Williams. Venus won the first set 6-4 and now leads the second 4-1, but I'd bet Bartoli has a good future in the game! She plays smart and isn't being overwhelmed by Venus! In fact, what daunted her the most yesterday in her match against Henin (#1) was that actor Pierce Brosnan (former 007) was in attendance! She is a big fan. Then she decided she couldn't play poorly in front of him and went on to win! :D

Venus has now joined an elite group to win at least 4 Women's Championship at Wimbledon -- Billy Jean, Steffi and Martina are others! :D (Chris won 3....)

Bartoli couldn't overcome serves of 120+ mph!

I still think we haven't heard the last of her...;)

I just happened to catch this little ditty from a column in another area rag (YES! Weekly) yesterday and chuckled. Perhaps you will too:

"It (a photo) was taken on a farm in Summerfield in 1975, back when Summerfield still had farms and open fields, prior to becoming Yuppie Paradise."

Mornin' all. Looks right purty out yonder!

Pappy never did hear what that big Summerfield boom was, night 'fore last. Mebbe it was the housin' market fallin'. Mebbe a big stack o' FOIA papers fell over. Mighta been one o' my ripe maters hittin' the ground. Mebbe it was aliens tryin' to lift sleepin' Pappy up in a tractor beam an' then droppin' me 'cause the recommended weight tolerance was exceeded.

Jim even in 1975 the move to Yuppieville had started in Summerfield. Elmhurst estates was built and Cooper James had started his push around that time to build what is now the old Food Lion Shopping center. We pettioned to keep him out for 3 years but in about 1979 the county commisioners stopped listening to the community and approved the shopping center.  The gas station across from the Doctors office was built late 60's early 70's as  I remember.

The Town discussed incorporation in the 70's. Esther Grimsley did a lot of research on the subject but at that time you couldn't incorporate if you were soo close to another town and summerfield was too close so the subject was dropped. We had a losely organized group in summerfield during that time that was involved in basically protecting the town from growth and the county.

Well so much for a history lesson.

Morning All!! it is a lovely summer morning in the neighborhood. Birds are signing. Coffee perking and newspaper here to read/ Every body have a great day.

I could have sworn that Family Dollar was mentioned at the Planning Board meeting, and just to make sure as to which retail outlet is coming to town, I just talked with Tom James of TCJ who confirmed his tenant is Dollar General.

Hmmmm..... Is the same company that built the old Food Lion shopping center in S'field now building the Dollar General in Stokesdale? Are they connected to Agapion, who owns the old FL center, as well as some properties in Stokesdale?

Macca- I don't think Cooper James has any ties to Agapion unless you consider he builds the shopping areas that then because antiquated after 20 years and Agapion moves in and buys them at that point cheaply and they remain eyesores forever.

Cooper James was my first experience with a developer who wooed the governing body with promises and then as soon as he got his zoning forgot the promises. As I remember Sumerfield was going to get a picnic park type area over on the undeveloped part of the property, you know there where the second strip was built and bhind where all the scrub pines now grow.
