Gosh Macca, you s'posed correctly. Wonder of wonders but I did venture forth last evening from our cultural mecca (that's mecca not Macca although Macca is quite cultured too) of Green Pond to set forth on a voyage of discovery to the Christmas Tree 'Lightin' over in the Land of Milk and Honey.

Celebrities? Did you say celebrities? Why gosh Macca there were more of 'em there than there was at TomKat's weddding. The likes of which you have never seen:

Why I would get in trouble and leave someone out if'n I starting name dropping, but it is fair to say that I met a right few of our 'Forum' friends ("I'll never tell"). We figured out last night that one of my heros and good friends, Bob Williams and I have known each other now for 34 years and my friendship with your wonderful Mayor Mark goes back even longer. And I couldn't resist reminding our great Sheriff BJ that I cross party lines in my support and appreciation for the fine job he is going.

(I actually attended the old Summerfield 'High' School from the 2nd through 6th grades (my Mother taught school there) and also took music piano lessons from Margaret Metz for 5 years so I don't feel bashful in the least claiming some kinship and camaraderie via my Summerfield roots.)  I have many fond wonderful memories of that portion of my childhood spent there.

I so enjoyed meeting and having good chat with Jane Doggett and as always, with Patti and Vicki. (Don't forget that contest we talked about last night Patti!). 'Course our Super Moderator Steve Atkins and I broke cookies together and enjoyed tons of wonderful food which was nothing short of a Bacchanalia (Pappy must have been there ahead of us in line as all the bacon was gone, but Thanks Pappy for leaving all that wonderful chocolate). There was so many many more wonderful folks that Jane and Bob and Vicki and others introduced me to and I would be hard placed to remember ever having been treated so well by so many. I will be back.

Last night on the way home, I was thinking that Summerfield and your spirited Christmas Tree Lighting was the kind of place and event that Charles Kuralt would have wanted to share with his 'On The Road' series to acquaint Americans with the treasures that sometimes we pass by in our scurrying about hustle bustle worlds.

Garrison Keiler has his vaunted Lake Wobegon, but only because he didn't visit Summerfield first and come to know her like we have.

What is it that makes a town? What is it that gives a place a sense of community?

The information signs leading into and out of town? A name on a map? The sign in front of a post office? An historical marker describing what once happened here? A map of the town borders showing streets and subdivisions?

Is a town simply another dot amongst a sea of dots on a larger map?

Or is it something more? Something intangible. Something esoteric. Something you can feel but not always see?

The people who live here. The people who migrated to settle here and make a better place than where they came from for themselves, their children and their children's children? A group of pioneers who know that adventure and vision takes courage and that change doesn't always make us first at ease. Where courage to embrace rather than hide from change, in a world that yields most painfully to change, is inspired and inspiring. A community that reaches out and shares their soul. A people of faith and dignity and courage and vision. Who know that quality of life adds to the dignity of life and opens vistas for community and growth.

Summerfield. It was a right nice place to be last night. And a wonderful place to live and call home.

Thank you Summerfield and Thank you Summerfieldians for a grand and glorious evening. The pleasure was mine.

Morning all! It does look and feel like snow. I am still in summer mode not ready for snow. Folks don't forget to take the Summerfield park survey if you haven't already. It is on the Summerfield website and is suppose to close December 1 I think.

Snow? Did you say SNOW? Like that white powdery stuff?

Now just how in the heck do you expect me to get and stay up on the roof today putting out Christmas lights if it snows?

Someone better bring me a big cup of hot chocolate or else be responsible if they find my body frozen to the roof.

Christmas Lights!!!!! YAY!!!!

I was crusin' Kernersville, Oak Ridge and Summerfield last night and saw several houses with their Christmas lights already up.  Kernersville has a wreath on every telephone pole.  Real purty...

If SMSandra comes thru, ya'll tell her they're Thanksgiving lights.  She doesn't like it when we skip holidays!

Snow you say? I'll hafta get in a load o' chiffarobes to bust up fer fuel 'fore then.

Mr Jim, Pappy's got a special Xtreme Sport travel jug I'll give ye fer a early Christmas present. It's got a handy balin' twine strop so's you can carry it with you hands-free while you're up yonder on the roof. Pappy recommends it an' carries one myse'f. If you slip, you'll never have to say "I've fallen an' I cain't get up." Instead, you'll say, "Them lights look purty from down here!"
