The Green Door used to be a skating rink? How long ago was that? I have wondered about that building ever since I moved to the area. Just out of curiousity, does anyone have any other information about that property - who built it, when did the rink shut down, what is it used for now, etc...? Thanks.
Hey, Gang! Could someone who knows the answer to this give us the answers???? I don't know any of this... I just knew the one little tidbit about it being a skating rink -- remembered reading it in the NW Observer one time. There was probably other info as well, but that's all that stuck with me. Sorry! Thanks!!!!♥♥♥
I'm really sorry for not responding to this request earlier. I did do an article on this place about 3-4 years ago, but it was more about how the building was being used now. When I wrote that article, the owners of Mumbo Jumbo, a very unique furniture and home ornament store in Kernersville, also owned the building. They really didn't know the history of the building, but I do know it was a skating rink at one time. They use the building for office/storage (which is why they have those interesting statues out front).
The fence and gate were just put up a few years ago. According to the owner, they understood that it used to surround the American Embassy in Egypt and was torn down during the war between Egypt and Israel in the mid-1970s.

StewartM you are crossing the Duct tape line on this one. I think you know better.
Crackah was right about the post I re thunk it after I posted the ask Lack answer.
The posting consisted of members of the community "going down" at a Greensboro event and screaming, yelling, and filing papers all the way to the ground. See if you guys hadn't attended the meeting you could have read it before I edited. Just didn't even get Cracker's approval even after the meeting.......
Hope DC doesn't record what we write on here......

My husband says the Green door was a skating rink last about 50 years ago. It was built after Lynches lodge burned. He says he is not exactly sure what the Green Door was as he never went but maybe a dance hall. You can see a picture of Lynches Lodge in Gladys Scarlettes Summerfield, North Carolina A Pictorial History. Lynches Lodge was a really fancy place. The Green Door is also is pictured and says it was a recreational hall with dancing. We have had the best time going through the Summerfield history book. Lots of pictures of people in Summerfield. Anything else you would like for me to look up?

Clark was looking through the book tonight to see what he could find out about the Green Door and there was a picture of his great grandmother, Molly Doggett. Now that was pretty cool because we had never noticed it before. Gladys has done a wonderful job of keeping up the history of Summerfield. Miss Kate Hoskins taped some history of the area which are at the Greensboro Museum I think. Miss Kate was such a character. Drove for years with out a drivers license. I remember trying to pass her one time on 220 going into Greensboro. She was driving just talking away to the lady in the car, Her foxes biting their tails drapped around her neck. When I got up beside her as I was passing, she looked over at me and all but drove me off the road. I could not pass her. Another time I was at the Sears Mail order when she drove her car over the divider in the middle separating the two parking places and the car was teetering back and forth like a seesaw but she did know her history.

Those tapes by Miss Kate would be cool to hear. How do you get to listen to them? Just ask the museum folks?

I don't know how you would listen. Maybe call the museum and ask. The curator who was there for years thought it very important to interview the elderly people and not lose the history so that how the taping came about I think. The thing that was so great about Ms Kate was she talked about the people like they were still alive. She just made everything so interesting.

CORN?! Can't wait to get my hands on an ear of fresh corn! I hear that for the sweetest corn you gotta get the water boilin' before you run down to the garden, pull a few ears, shuck 'em on the way back to the house then throw 'em in the pot. I like to put a spoonful of honey in the boilin' water too. Love the summertime eatin'!

Shore is quiet today.
Maybe some o' them outer space aliens struck.
Y'all shoulda been wearin' yer duck tape hat like I was. Most folks think the shiney head gear reflects alien rays an' keeps 'em from penetratin' yer skull an' probin' yer brain. Not so. Their rays'll bore right through like Pappy's ginsu knife through a garden fresh mater. The real reason fer wearin' foil an' such on yer head is it makes the aliens think you're crazy so they leave you alone.
If y'all are caught by aliens just ask 'em if'n you can borry some duck tape. Or if that don't work, try tellin' 'em somethin' like you think young'uns don't need ballfields an' laws are meant to address a problem unless there's no problem bein' addressed usin' political words to make political sentences to make political paragraphs an' Duncan Donuts has you on their list.
They might think twice an' throw you back.
