The Green Door used to be a skating rink? How long ago was that? I have wondered about that building ever since I moved to the area. Just out of curiousity, does anyone have any other information about that property - who built it, when did the rink shut down, what is it used for now, etc...? Thanks.

Don't know when it was built or any other important info, but I did go there once (shhhhh, don't tell my Mama)about fifty-something  years ago, after it became a "dance hall".  Actually, I think, uh-h-h-hh, ROADHOUSE might be the term they used at the time.  Looking back, there was probably nothing sinister going on, just bright lights, big crowd, loud music and a little beer drinking. (Sounds like the restaurant I was in the other night)  At any rate, the fifties were a different time and I was a little naive.  Thought I was having  a really exciting adventure.  Don't remember who I was with.  My spoose said it was before spoose's time. Uh-oh.  Do remember we didn't stay long, did'nt dance, and didn't drink beer.  Whew!

Said cornbread was partaken of/partook ?:?? on the island of Kauai which is the northern-most Hawaiian island. However, it was baked at an elevation of about 4000 ft up in the middle of nowhere - that Lodge was the best place to get lunch. It was also the ONLY place to get lunch :D So that makes it Hawaiian Hillbilly Cornbread I guess

Alo - YEE - HAWWWWWWWWW!

Here's what Hawaiian Hillbilly country looks like. (sorry I think we're goin' wide with this one but I gotta show ya'll how pretty it was - Waimea Canyon - Mark Twain called it the "grand canyon of the Pacific"!)

Kris you are definitely forgiven for "going wide"!  How beautiful!

That cornbread recipe looks delicious!  Can't wait to try it!  I can't eat cornbread unless it's cooler outside though.....  Fix me a big ol' bowl of  pintos with crumbled up cornbread in it.... Nothin' like it!

Yummy!!!

Y'know, the darnedest thing happened today. I was outside, taking care of some bidness in the yard, when all of a sudden I noticed this bright light hovering overhead... and all of a sudden I woke up with a duck tape hat on, shiny side out! I ran in the house and been hidin' under the bed ever since. Finally decided to come out, and just been catchin' up on my readin' of the forum. Did any of y'all come and visit me while I was out?

I dreamed about grand canyons in the Pacific and cornbread with only a little bit of cornmeal in it..... Lots o' butter, though, so I bet it's good! ♥♥♥

Kris, I'm gonna try that recipe! I bet it'll be good with the fresh corn, squash and cukes I've been given! ♥♥♥

Now, I love cornbread cooked in a cast iron skillet in the oven. Have even tried some recipes with canned corn in it. This one seems light on the cornmeal (I like the way my Mama makes it 'cause it's so chewy b/c of the cornmeal), but I'll give this one a try! (If it's even half as good as that chocolate cake you make, it'll be great!) ♥♥♥

I heard on the 11 o'clock news that there were awful storms all around us! They talked about trees down in Reidsville and then said that the town of Walnut Cove was closed because of all the trees down! They're not letting people in.... Supposed to be able to tell us more about it in the mornin'! We just never know how lucky we are!!! ♥♥♥

Himmer's mama deserves to know what shem's been up to!

I think we're protected from the ugly storms cause we are protected by "The Ridge" Macca!
