Have a quick question for anyone who knows the answer....this is a pretty populated room in the forum so thought I'd ask here.
I read about a Labyrinth somewhere in the NW area (it was in the NWO) It was on Hwy 150 I think, but I can't find the website or anything else about it. I have looked in the archives and it doesn't get me anywhere. Anyone who knows anything and could let me know....I'd really appreciate it.

I remember reading about the labyrinth too Just Me, but I can't remember the details. Sorry.
Maybe Macca will remember. Shem always recalls stuff from WAAAY back when!
BTW... this is an example of why we need the NWO archives to work. I would think you should just be able to type in Labyrinth and the article pops up. Right? I know... they're working on it.

So my brother likes to call me and play "stump the chump" with me, which usually means he will sing some obscure song from way back and I'll reply... "oh yea, I have that 45".
He was downloading a lot of 70's music and we were playing on the phone today. He found this song and said "Hey, this artist posts on your forum!" It was called The night the lights went out in Georgia.
Anybody else remember who sang that? Thought it was funny. Never made the connection before.
Is that why you kept the "White" in your name Vicki??

OK, Cracker Jax, you caught me! We got married 20 years ago, and I was 34 years old. Was sure I didn't want to totally give up my name and considered not changing it at all. I had a couple of friends who had kept their names and both talked to me about pros and cons. Then I decided I liked the idea of adding his name to mine.
Now some people still kidded me about being "Vicki Lawrence," so I started telling everyone that I hyphenated my name so people wouldn't expect me to be funny or sing.
I know we got a bunch of young'uns on here, and you might not remember Vicki Lawrence, but she is a story all unto herself. She became a star on "The Carol Burnett Show" by kind of "stalking" Carol. See she looked kind of like Carol and admired her, so she made sure Carol knew about her. She went on to record a little and was famous in her own right on "Mama's Family" (she played Mama) which was a spinoff of a skit from the "CB" show.
By the way, another regular on both Carol Burnett and "Mama's Family" was Betty White.... You can catch her now in a recurring role on "Boston Legal." Guess what my mom's name is?

Dang, Cracker Jax! I just read back over what I wrote.... I "talk" too much! I told everybody how old I am and everything! I guess it was relevant to the story....

That's a great story Vicki! I can't believe I was
"blinded by the White"
and I never made the connection before. How funny!
Even funnier that your mom is a "Golden Girl"!!!!
Do you have any cousins? Tim Conway? Harvey Korman?

...Are you not concerned about drawing wild animals to your property, or do you have enough land that you don't worry about drawing them to your actual yard? I know we've sometimes had problems with raccoons who come up if we leave food out for our pets. Your neighbors aren't going to be concerned that you are developing your own zoo?
The deer had taken over our new place, long before we started building the house. It can be quite relaxing, to walk down towards the creek (we border Lake Higgins on one side) and watch the deer, raccoons, possums, etc (the occasional wild turkey or bobcat). I do have hotwire running around my back pasture, dog pen, goat pen, and pig pen; just in case. If I ever wanted to plant a garden, I suppose I'll have to hotwire that as well.

Vicki White-Lawrence wrote: Jane,
I think (hope) the writer, who lives in Jamestown and is very much affected by Board of Ed actions in High Point, was trying to make a point. I've heard speakers at the public forums say the same thing, that if this way of assigning students is so great, then of course the rest of the system should get to benefit from it as well.
This is how the group that fought the "Choice Plan" from the very beginning tried to get support from the rest of the county, saying that once the Board/Grier were able to implement it in High Point, they would use it as a blueprint for the rest us. Time will tell.
I agree with Vicki. I finally clothed myself, <KRIS > darted out to get the paper, and got around to reading that editorial. I think the writer was being sarcastic when he wrote it.
He might have been saying that he'd like the school board to use our NW schools as an example but shower the $$attention that Dudley gets on all areas in the school system.
I am frustrated too that the schools spend so much of their budget on administration. Our teachers, at Laughlin anyway, are completely out of staples, glue, paper and many other essentials that are needed to teach. They are OUT and it is only March. Therefore, when teacher appreciation week rolled around, instead of taking up a collection to give the teachers a well deserved gift, we were taking up donations for school supplies.
It was one thing when we had to supply all the kleenex, now it's school supplies....
I won't even go into how I feel about the cutbacks when it comes to teaching assistants and "one on one" teachers, which are so desperately needed, but that really steams me too.
Letters to the editor addressing the board of education are always needed, but I don't think in this case it should be directed to the writer of that editorial.
In support of that writer and other HP choice plan families, I still have my "Get Grier outta here" car magnet that I obtained from them a couple of years ago. I won't get rid of it 'til he's gone.
