Mornin' to all! Sorry to hear everyone's so poorly. I slept a lot off and on yesterday, b/c I was up so late Christmas Eve/morning. (Cracker I saw your post AFTER you had posted that morning, if that gives you an indication of just how late I was up....)

I hate to be a downer, but every year I sit there opening presents and think "Is that all there is?" I pretty much don't know of anything I want, so I don't tell anyone what to get except gift cards to favorite stores and then I get things I don't want/need...(re-giftables?) Gift cards, that's the way to go. Too late I decided I'd like to have one of those machines that lets you transfer VHS tapes to CDs, so if anyone has any ideas about good ones for a decent price, I'm open. I'm also thinking I'll get the Live8 DVD set.

BTW, SANTA REALLY thrilled me (not). I figure your Santa gift is the best you'll get. Well, being pretty tired from the lack of sleep and all, I kind of told my spouse I figured it was all downhill from there after Santa brought EACH OF US a toaster oven!!! (Unfortunately I was right.... I hate to feel like it's all about the gifts, but this is the biggest time of the year to get stuff.) I thought the spouse would go more along the way of electronics (oh, yeah, like I love to cook....) like computer gadgetry. My laptop has been giving me problems, there are always add-ons, etc... also more stuff for digital camera, etc.... I know they try, it was just disappointing.

Again, sorry for being grumpy. Thanks for lettting me do it here....

Every year I say it'll be different next year, but alas, not so! I need to be better organized so I don't wear myself out and then have such a letdown... Ideas? I'd love to hear about some wonderful times folks had. It's been nice getting together with family. Everyone's been happy and all, but with my own little family, I feel like I was not a good example b/c I was so disappointed with "stuff."

I'm grateful for the good health of my family and all, but I just feel like Peggy Lee (REALLY dating myself, now, huh?) I know this site is supposed to be for "fun" but that's not how I'm feeling today....

Glad you got to catch up on your sleep some yesterday macca... I had to do family functions # 4 and 5 so there was no rest for the weary...Then the TRASH CAN CHRONICLES started and I just gave up on the idea of sleeping...

The day after Christmas IS the MOST depressing day of the year and I've figured out why.  It's because the Christmas Music is Gone!  I truly believe it.  There is nothing like some Nat King Cole when the violins gear up for a little chestnuts roasting..... <sigh> Oh Well.

macca,I don't know how long you've been married, But it's like I was telling The Penguin yesterday..(She's a "late in life" newlywed) After 20 some years of marriage here, and many toaster oven Christmases, I have learned that this is how you handle the gift thing.....

You must TELL THE SPOUSE what you want, EXACTLY...and in fact if possible you order it or buy it yourself (doing it as a favor for the spouse). That is the only way you are guaranteed to get what you want or at least something you like.

In fact, in addition, while I am out shopping, I always pick up a few goodies that I like, give them  to my kids to wrap up for me and put them under the tree.... These don't have to be expensive...DVD's, a potholder that catches your fancy, a game... whatever you see when you are out and about shopping for others... The kids think it's funny and I get some new goodies!

Now, I know this removes the element of SURPRISE, but who really wants a surprise like the double toaster oven whammy??  Much better my way, I assure you. You'll still get a tablecloth from aunt Martha or a pair of isotoners from another relative... Surprise enough!

So, Cheer up macca, there is always next year...

While you are toasting your bagel in your new oven this morning, think of me sitting here waiting for the next wave of nausea to hit, with my big ol' zombie eyes from not sleeping  and not having a gift at all because FED EX never did come here and I have no one to blame but myself cause I couldn't decide what I wanted to order for myself from the spouse until the last minute!!

While y'all are recovering from your various states of depression, I'll tell my story. It's a bit happier, for me anyway.

Last year just before Christmas, my wife of 20 happy years was diagnosed with a massive tumor, right smack where the esophagus joins the stomach. MRI's are great tools, but there are some things in life where there's no way to biopsy or otherwise diagnose without major excavation.  So on 12/22/04, I sweated bullets for 4 hours during her surgery. Needless to say, our Christmas was put on indefinite hold. I spent Christmas day punching on her little morphine injector button that the nurses keep saying (only the patient should punch this button !!!!).  When you see a loved one suffering with pain, and they finally get to sleep.......I'll cheat the system and keep punching a button to keep the pain at bay for awhile, long enough for some sleep.

Bottom Line, it wasn't cancer (Thank You Lord !!), and she has fully recovered.  And this year, we got to enjoy four generations of family at our house for the day, all are healthy & happy.

EUSON, think Quality, not Quantity

I sweat bullets when buying anything for my wife, trying to make sure it's "personal for her", not generic.  Don't know you or your husband from Adam, but if he's like me, he spent 3 hours buying those ear-rings, looked at 20 different pair trying to find the "right" ones.  Could have spent those 3 hours buying the nail polish & bubble bath, but agonized over the ear-rings.....heck I don't know, just speculating based on myself, I'm a lousy shopper.

After our experience last year, I learned not to use Christmas as the "make up for all the stuff I didn't do during the rest of the year" holiday.  Our kids & grand-kids got their share of gifts, but Christmas went thru a "de-commercialization" at our house this year. I'm glad to still have my wife around......we gave the vows a workout, were'nt sure which ones would finally apply. (for better for worse, in sickness & in health, til death do us part)

Thanks Steve for putting things into perspective.  Just needed to vent.  Guess it was getting a little personal or the "fun page".

EUSON, didn't mean for you to edit out the venting.  Venting is good for the soul, even among anonymous friends.

Hope you're feeling better tonight !!!!!

Wow Steve...Always the voice of reason. Way to put things in perspective.  I appreciate that about you, and I'm glad your wife is ok.

I'm not depressed, just tired..... and really missing my Christmas Music! I'll have to find something else to hum when you start singing your little ditty.....

What in the heck did you write Euson?? I hate when Rev does that.... writes something and then pulls it before I get to see it!  I imagine it was a story somewhat like macca's.  I know ya'll don't think Christmas is about the "stuff" and I'm happy that that is the biggest thing you needed to vent about this year!

What did EUSON write??  Hmmmm, can't remember.

Cracker, where you been all day??   Out catching after Christmas sales??

I first thought the virus you were referring to was the NWO website early this am.  I couldn't get on for a few hours.  Wasn't sure what kind of mischief Monty had gotten into, gotta watch these kids.

Hey, Steve, Thanks for havin' my back.

Crackah there were a few post Christmas sales out there.  Mostly people fighting over old dried up ornaments and stuff.  Better that you hung out with the little one over the trash can.

Saw my buddy Tonya at Kohls.  The lines were way too long.  Wasn't worth it.

Macca

Maybe since you have been married so long, next year you and your husband could just take that money and give it away, adopt a family, plant a tree in a park in honor of your marriage.

I've been married for 22 years and we don't do the BIG gift thing anymore. It is sort of like saying your prayers, when you go to bed at night all you should have to say is thank you for today, see ya tomorrow!;)

My playground pals,

Thanks for the suggestions... Sorry to be such a baby. Crackuh, I will definitely have that list next year! My oldest kiddie asked what I'd like so he bought me one of the things I had wanted. (The spouse didn't ask.. mainly bought me things that'd interest ....)

Bubba, we adopted an "angel" from Good Samaritan's tree. Your other suggestions were good as well, and make sense. And if we had decided to do those things, that would be fine... I was just expecting more. I guess I need to change my expectations...

It's just hard when I feel that I try to make it special for others... It would be nice if someone tried to make it nice for me.

Steve, I'm glad everything worked out so well for your family... That certainly puts things in perspective, and I do know I don't have anything to complain about. And I understand what you mean when you say many times people put more thought into what they do than it may appear...

So, Happy Christmas to all and to all a good night... Hope it was great and that the rest of the holiday season is great as well.... Euson, special thanks!!! My thoughts are with you....
