This is slightly off topic..........but since it's not worth it's own thread, I'll do it here

CASH REGISTER RAGE

My wife has dragged me all over the place the past two days, and as we aimlessly walked the aisles, I started making mental notes on those stores with under used cash registers, didn't write it down, but a couple stuck in my mind.

TJ MAXX Battleground - 10 registers, 4 in use, 23 people in line

Old Navy - Wendover - 8 registers, 4 in use, 8 in line

Home Depot & Lowes - didn't count, but they always have a string of registers with few manned regardless of the line.  Home Depot just put in the self check out gizmo's.

The christmas season is supposed to be the "busy season", why don't these stores gear up for busy seasons?   Maybe somebody has a different slant on this subject??

I should state the only store I saw where all the registered were fully operating was Sam's Club on Wendover.

Okay, so this isn't exactly road rage (although under different circumstances, in the past, it might have been....), but it's a lot closer than Steve's cash register rage!

So, my husband Scott had a stroke in October, his 2nd (possibly 3rd) in a year. All of them have affected his vision. I've always done most of the driving, which is fine. I like to drive and am a better driver than passenger. I'm also pretty good with directions, and most of the time can remember how to get somewhere once I've been there before.

Scott has always been directionally challenged (he is a man, after all! ;)) and has trouble remembering things. (He really is like the absent-minded professor in lots of ways... I've spent a lot of time during the past 25 years helping him find things.) It seems that he has suffered some additional, although minor, memory loss following this most recent stroke.

Anyway, I had driven him to this vision specialist last year about this time. After this stroke, he called and set up another appointment for last Thursday. I had looked up the address online and then pulled up a map to refresh my memory. Thursday morning I told him I had pulled up a map but he said he had found the one from before so I didn't need to print out another. I knew he had had a folder of information from the prior visit, so I figured he'd found that.

We stopped in Greensboro for some lab work, then dropped our younger son off with my folks for the day and headed for Durham. As we approached the exit, I said, "We're making good time. This is our exit, and we've still got 45 minutes." He said, "No, this isn't it." I figured, he's got the map in his hands and maybe I just remembered wrong. (What was I thinking???) Anyway, he tells me the exit to take, and I said, "Oh, I think this is the exit we took last month when we went to the Apple store at that mall." When we got to the light, I pointed out to him where we had turned to go into the mall area and he told me to go the other way. Then he told me we were looking for Renaissance Street, but it wasn't where he thought it would be on the map. At this point he was ignoring the written directions and just going by the map. I told him that Renaissance was one of the roads into the mall and he showed me that if we could just get to Renaissance then we should be able to find the doctor's office b/c it was shown with a star..... I pointed out that the doctor's office is on ACADEMY Street.... He seemed confused about why that wasn't showing on his map until I pointed out to him that the map he brought was the one showing how to get from our house to the Apple store..... I guess when you're going somewhere, any old map will do! Not only did he have the wrong map, he didn't have the address or phone # with him....

Fortunately, I was able to figure out how to double back to where we needed to be and then drove directly to the doctor's office. I believe we could've gotten to it from where we were without doubling back, but it would've been much more stressful until we figured out we were indeed heading in the right direction, and there was enough stress in the car as it was.... Although it was also kind of humorous, except that he was feeling pretty embarrassed about it all. At least we were early (wonder of wonders!) so didn't have the added stress of running late!

Ok, now I see why someone in another topic was accusing you of male bashing.  Yeah, well, if the shoe fits (and the MAN can find it !!)  :D

My wife & I enjoyed meeting your hubby before the holidays, we wish him speedy recovery.

And as Road Rage sails off into the wild yonder, it is good to know that all the local's have gotten religion from learning in this topic how their bad habits are annoying others.............................................................................................:?

SCREEECHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

You can't send Road Rage to the junkyard!

Let me think of something.... uh... ok...

How about those concrete medians they've put in the MIDDLE OF THE ROAD up there on 220 and Horsepen Creek???  Are they gonna kill somebody or what?

And that tire slashing metal thingy that's sticking up in the middle of the road in the same area?  Can't they glop some tar around those sharp edges or something?

whew! did I save  it?

Yeah they finaly put a lil bit of asphalt around that thing so it is not so sharp. But it still is not great. I think it would still do some damage.

Yea... at the very least I'd think it could whack your car out of line or something....

I've got a new driver in the family and I've been trying to teach her the art of "straddling" things such as that and dead possums and such... She hits that thing every time.

I need one of those old timey cars with a hood ornament that acts as a "sight"..... That's how I learned.... lined the sight up with the offensive object and scooted right over it. :D

Well, ff12, if you had let me out onto 68, perhaps you wouldn't have seen that brewing rage on my face. No telling how long I'd been sitting there. (If I'd know that was you in that red Mustang, I'd have pulled on out because I'm SURE you would let me in.:))

Sometimes just getting out of our parking lot is a challenge, and I don't see that getting better any time soon. If you are going north on 68, certain times of day you generally have to just sit there and wait until somebody is nice enough to let you out as they stop for the stop light.

If you're going south on 68, forget even trying to pull directly out. Then we pull out behind the CVS onto 150, but if you're trying to turn left to go west, that's sometimes a challenge too because traffic is lined up there. I've been known to turn right, go down past the Academy and turn around, just so you can get behind the line of traffic.

They FINALLY paved over the square thing that no one had the common sense to dodge LOL. I thought it was funny how everyone would slam on brakes and try to cause an accident day after day over that stupid thing. For now I will take Pleasant Ridge Rd and Carlson Dairy to avoid all the traffic. I can't wait until that Harris Teeter opens up. They are so FRIENDLY. :)

YEAH! And that wonderful new apartment complex should really keep congestion in check!

It will be a REAL relief to go into the most expensive grocery store in Greensboro and see all those happy people! It'll just be a perfect world.
