My turn...........didn't think I'd have much to add to this Forum til Sunday morning on the way to church.  Now.............I'M GUILTY !!!!!!!!!

I don't begrudge anybody's right to ride a bicycle..........until that is........they're riding in a group, and feel the urge to take up the whole road, when the cars behind can't pass, and I'm stuck behind.

Sunday mornings are bad enough......dragging kids out of bed, getting them into their costumes for the Christmas play, this stuff never happens on time, then racin down the road just to get stuck behind these bicycles.

There's just got to be a way to hook up a large pressurized tank of shaving cream to install on the rear bumper, so when I finally pass these bicycles who are demonstrating their legal rights, they can enjoy a brief snowstorm.   Oh, well, fun to dream anyway.

Steve, That would be nice, I have never thought of the shaving cream, but I really like that idea.  How about if you are going to ride a bicycle on the road, you have a license like everyone else, you get a ticket for running a red-light, and you have to have tags and inspections for your bike.  I think they need insurance too.  With all listed above we could afford to build a bike lane on most major roads.  Guess who’s insurance pays if they hit YOUR car.

Oh! the bikes-I forgot about those. I am like Steve - ride the bike. But I have never gotten riding with all the car traffic( hello-exhaust!!! How healthly is that!) Why not stay off the road, stay in the gararge with the car running and ride a stationary bike. Same thing.

Hey Steve, in town on Old Battleground when I do get around them. I about get up on the curb when I come to the spotlight. They might be able to move up a few cars, but they never get in front of me again to pass again down the road.

And I like the insurance thing Euson, I have had a bike guy tell me if you hit him, your insurance pays. And his bike is worth $6,000 dollars!! And that some bikes on the road costs as much as $10,000 dollars!

I was not going to admit that I pull up to the curb, or even off the road so that they cannot pass me at the light, I am so glad that someone else said it.   Thanks Bubba!!!!  I feel better that I am not the first person to say it.

ROTFLMAO!  (<~~~Over 30< barely > and already KNEW what that meant)

I CAN'T BELIEVE I TOOK THE WEEKEND OFF!

THIS IS HILARIOUS!

Euson~~~  That intersection @ HP Creek and Battleground along with the "regulars" are well known to all. I too make allowances for blue hairs and folks with Virginia Tags, and occasionally a trucker cause I figure they are out to make a living, they MIGHT be lost, and they are LOTS bigger than me!

Let me tell you a little about that strategy that you have been describing... It is called the SLINGSHOT method.  The "regulars" wait for a "choker" like you to get stuck at the light and they maintain a steady speed from Auto Zone, never actually having to stop at the light and then before you know it, the light has turned green and having the advantage of already being in motion, they have gunned it and shot past you before you know it.....

Now, since you are my friend, I will tell you how to alleviate this slingshot problem (from the left lane perspective) in the future. Starting just before Auto Zone, you notice a "regular" beside you or just behind you.  You check to be sure the suspected "regular" is far enough back to be out of harm's way, and then you throw in an occasional regimented swerve, like you might be considering changing lanes (not enough to warrant a DWI, but enough to make that driver a little leery of what your intentions might be....twice will be sufficient.

THEN, you continue to ride the white line AS IF you are going to change lanes at any moment. There is no need to cross over into their lane, that would be dangerous, and you have no intention of doing so, however, they don't know that!  It is psychological warfare, but hey....you can go as slow as you like and it works every time!!

It is very rare, but I have been known to start out at BiLo in that right lane thinking I would have plenty of time to get past the 20 or so "chokers" in the left lane before reaching the light in question.  If by chance I am caught in that right lane, I am not proud to say this, but I have turned right just to save face. Say if I am inadvertently trying the slingshot method and that choker in the left lane pulls out power from heavens knows where, I will put on my turn signal as if to say, "Ha Ha, I was turning all along"..... Then I'll just turn around at the store and catch the light on the way back out.  The choker and anyone else who saw me turn are already home at their computers by then, so no one is the wiser! That's probably what that chick did to you today, so YOU WON!

And I am surprised at you people for not having more patience with our dear biker friends!  I find it particularly useful if they travel in PACKS rather than the more logical single file line (Especially on Lake Brandt Rd.)... See, if they are in PACKS, you can't possibly get past them, BUT you can run more of them over at one time!!

(OK, I was so TOTALLY Kidding! After the Dead Deer Parts episode, I am wary of what I say in public!)

Don't worry Steve, I ALWAYS wear my helmet when I go out Road Raging!!

Oh, and bama..... I SAW those colors!

oops! Almost forgot my story, quite lame in comparison, but felt I needed to contribute.....

macca.... was that you in front of me at Food Lion on Saturday???  I was crusin' a bit too quickly through the intersection (coming from CVS on 150) Thinking about how I wish I was gonna have time to check out the blog sometime that afternoon, when lo and behold, I look up to see some fool (excuse me if it was you macca) turning left into Suntrust.....ON A SATURDAY!  Had to be another one of those ATM seekers.

Anyhoo, I had to lock down the brakes big time, and there were about a bajillion people sitting there at the light watching me as my tail end danced to the left then to the right.  I am sure at least half of them knew me.  I was embarrassed to say the least because I knew that I had made an error.  I take full responsibility.  The car that I almost hit at some point (not sure exactly when, cause my wiggly eyes were squeezed tightly shut)  had decided that the ATM wasn't worth it and when she saw me coming, she gunned it toward food lion ranting and waving the one fingered flag at me the whole way..... I might have apologized if she hadn't done that.... Hey, I didn't hit her did I??

La dee da dee da!!!!!

Cracker! That was you??!!??

No, it wasn't me..... I don't believe in ATMs except in dire emergencies ....Sounds like she was pretty alert, though, to get out of your way! Oh, and give her the benefit of the doubt -- You probably scared the !&*%!&!^* out of her and she retaliated in the only way she could.

I didn't realize the playground could be hazardous to your health! Better keep your mind on driving instead of daydreaming about playing with your pals...We don't want to lose you!

HAHA. I saw some soccer mom in a minivan almost eat it on 68 yesterday. Coming from I-40 and heading North, just after crossing Pleasant Ridge, the left lane ends just before the next light. Well this minivan lady with some cheer team shoe-polished on her window decided she was going to haul tail and get in front of a bulk mail truck. You know those that come from the airport and are basically an 18 wheeler but maybe a little shorter. Anyway, they are always in this area and are familiar with the same routes. Well, this mail guy in the big truck knew what was up from the time he stopped at the light. He kept on the gas and on the persons bumper in front of him and the minivan lady kept trying to cut him off all the way to the light. After much swerving, honking, etc she had to slam on brakes at the light and get behind the big truck. I was about 100 yards back by this time behind only 1 car and there was all that open space between us and the van because they raced all that way. HAHA. It was really funny. I cant believe that lady thought she would strong-arm a trucker into letting her over. Or maybe she thought she would ram him out of the lane. idontthinkso!

Here's what riles me:

1. People who continue to go through the light many, many, many seconds after their light has turned red and MY light has turned green.

2. People in front of me who stop and block the road so other people can pull out even when there's nobody else behind us, and if we just went on by, those other people would be able to get out anyway.

3. Bicyclists, of course. Share the road? Share the rules and share the taxes! Didn't their mammies tell them not to play in the road?!

4. People in front of you who pull almost into the middle turn lane but leave enough sticking out that you can't get around.

5. People in front of you who are stopped at the light and are having a conversation with somebody in the lane beside them and continue to sit and talk after the light has changed.

6. Similar to (5) is the people who stop in the lane in front of you to let somebody out of the car. Would it kill them to pull over somewhere and let the rest of the world go by?

OH My Crackah, that was me!!!  I I put my turn signal on in plenty of time for you to see me!  The speed limit is not 55 through the intersection.  I looked in my rear view mirror and all I could see was the grill of your car getting bigger and bigger. My heart was racing!  See I had some Christmas gifts that I had knitted in the back of the car and all I could think was that you were about to wear them on your gear shift.

I pinched several pleats in the car seat.  You have all done it, you know where you pinch your cheeks together, yeah admit it, you just tried it didn't you.  You think you are cute, but you weren't in my car watching Crackah approach at the speed of light.

Trick, It wasn't really me.  I just wanted to see if I could get you all pinching pleats in your office chairs.

Good one, Euson!

Pappy's a veteran of Battleground, Wendover and the (name of local Food Store withheld) parking lot, so, no pleats for me today, but it was still a nice try! If I ever need a scare to get rid of hiccups, I'll just come back and re-read some of these posts.

Y'all are makin' Pappy want the biggest Dodge Ram pickup with a snowplow on the front that he can find. Dodge this!

Whatever I drive, I want a big bumper sticker on the back that says "I may be slow, but I'm ahead of you," and then just watch the fun in the rearview mirror!

My mom just called to let me know my nephew was involved in an accident this morning and I just have to share this. (Fortunately, he wasn't hurt, although it did total his car!)

On his way to work, was in a line of traffic behind a car turning left into a business driveway. There had already been one accident there and the guy behind him wasn't paying close enough attention. Was looking at the first accident to see if he knew anyone involved. He bumped my nephew, with minor damage... But THEN, a second driver comes flying in and rear-ends him, sending him into my nephew and my nephew into the car in front of him!

To top it off, my nephew had to get out and direct traffic, although there were deputies from his county (not Guilford) sitting there and THEN he gets a ticket because he hadn't had his car inspected!!! The trooper told him if he'd get it inspected it wouldn't cost anything, but of course, it's TOTALLED, so he'll have court costs....

It could have been much worse....He's okay.

I just remembered... He's actually been very lucky, or very unlucky, depending on how you look at it. He favors those Jeeps. His first one was totalled when some kid decided to take his half of the road in the middle. Nephew drove off the road to avoid him and still got hit. His second was a collision with a DEER (probably drinking and smoking before it chose his vehicle to attack!) and now this. That Jeep was totalled as well, although he knew a guy who could fix it anyway... Now he's got to get it back on the road again....

He's not been seriously hurt in any of these...
