UH.... we can't possibly keep MAAN II on the Front Page of the NWO site if we don't post here all day!!!!! ;)

I'm having some "technical difficulties"... I'm not ignoring ya'll!

Plus... I sat glued to my seat waiting for the verdict on Anna Nicole's baby's daddy today.  Couldn't help it... Imus' all day story just sort of transitioned into the Anna Nicole thing and they kept saying the verdict was coming in at any minute..... 4 hours later, I was still sitting on pins and needles. Glad how it turned out I suppose.... Well... I really didn't care until I got myself all caught up in the story.... ;) Actually never even heard of Birkhead (the dad) until today....

Morning all!!!

It is warmer today. I do hope we get some rain though. We certainly are dry. Won't get our spring veggies up. I know Mr.Mike you don't know what they are. I do think though after the Health department did their talk last night on pandemics and bird flu you might ought to stick to bacon and leave the chicken out of it.

Wow it's been a long time since I was in here all by myself. Of course there are 9 visitors so thats new. I remember when you could be the only one here with no visitors. it was scary then. I like it better now that there is more people around. I don't feel so alone. haha.

The Perfect Bacon Sandwich Decoded: Crisp and Crunchy

That's the headline behind the story in this morning's New York Times.

Here's an excerpt:

LONDON, April 10 — Should it be slithery or scrunchy, glutinous or grilled? The answer, British scientists say, may be divined by a formula: N = C + {fb(cm) · fb(tc)} + fb(Ts) + fc · ta.

That is the scientific answer to the question: what makes the perfect bacon sandwich?

Researchers at Leeds University spent more than 1,000 hours testing 700 variants on the traditional bacon sandwich, which many Britons refer to as a bacon butty (eschewing the term sandwich, said to have been coined to honor the fourth Earl of Sandwich’s habit of eating meat between slices of bread around 1762).

The research combined four types of cooking, using grills, pans and ovens, three kinds of oil and four types of bacon — smoked, unsmoked, streaky and thick cut — to establish the preferences of 50 tasters in such matters as the butty’s tactile and aural crunchiness. The study also considered a broad range of condiments (like ketchup and brown sauce) and spreads.

"We probably could have saved ourselves, but we were too damned lazy to try very hard... and too damn cheap," he once suggested carving into a wall on the Grand Canyon, as a message for flying-saucer creatures.

KURT VONNEGUT HAS DIED.

He was 84.

Vonnegut, who often marveled that he had lived so long despite his lifelong smoking habit, had suffered brain injuries after a fall at his Manhattan home weeks ago, said his wife, photographer Jill Krementz.

I don't think I ever read anything by Vonnegut but I certainly loved his interviews. He absolutely died the way he would have wanted to. Still respected and as far as I know still smoking and drinking. Not many of us are that lucky.

Morning all!! Be sure and listen when you go outside this morning. You can hear the grass growing. The quarter moon is shinning up in the sky and dozens of birds are announcing it is morning.  It is a glorious morning too.

Everybody have a good day.

Jim this cannot be a true....I was never called.....I'm going to have to go "CC" on this issue......Those British scientists went behind our back...They didn't use professional testers.....I think the lead scientist was getting kickbacks from the crisp people ( they gave them eggs and gravy) ....They didn't post their meeting dates....Where are the minutes to the taste testing.......I request copies of all reports and personal files on all tester.....I want samples of all the bacon they used.....

Macca I'm working on getting my own team up to do a real professional study (we are certified or was that certifiable)....and I will pay for it myself.....Those Brits don't have anything on us....

 formula: N = C + {fb(cm) · fb(tc)} + fb(Ts) + fc · ta. = crisp or bubble gum....

I had a chance to see Kurt Vonnegut at Hampden Sydney college when I was in high school.  We studied him in school and Mrs. Young organized a field trip to the college for us to see him.  I remember being enthralled by him.  He was everything I thought a writer should be, disheveled, a smoker, a drunk and a wonderful speaker.  It was a great experience.  He reminded me of my eccentric cousin Egbert (who I loved) and I think my cousin and Kurt Vonnegut really made me excited to know that there was so much out there to learn about.

On April 14, 11 am - 4 pm, Vulcan is sponsoring a Community Day to benefit Good Samaritan Ministries. It's all free, but donations will be accepted. There will be grilled hot dogs, tours of the quarry, entertainment and a car show! There are also tickets being sold (for $1 each) for drawings. The grand prize is a Zero Turn Toro Riding Lawn Mower!

Well, I posted the above on March 14, and sold maybe 20 tickets (bought 10 of them myself!). The big day is Saturday (unless the weather forces them to reschedule to the 28th). There is an article about it in the NWObserver this week.

Just to let you know when those drawings for prizes will be held:
#1 - Noon -- for a Stihl Leaf Blower and a Family 4-Pack of Tickets to Emerald Pointe Water Park
#2 - 1:15 -- for a Stainless Steel Gas Grill and Family 4-Pack to Emerald Pointe

THERE WILL ALSO BE A DRAWING AT THIS TIME FOR CHILDREN. EACH CHILD CAN GET ONE FREE TICKET AT THE MOONWALK. CHILDREN MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN. (That is not a requirement for the other drawings.)

#3 - 2:30 -- for a Vizio 32" Flat Screen TV and Family 4-Pack to Emerald Pointe
#4 - 3:45 -- Drawing for Grand Prize -- Toro Zero Turn Lawn Mower and Family 4-Pack to Emerald Point

There will be free tours of the quarry, free live music, free hot dog lunch, free car show (car owners pay to enter their cars in the show, but no cost to viewers), free inflatables for kids, etc.

You can also pay to PAN FOR GOLD... This is sponsored by Reed Gold Mine.

All proceeds from the day benefit Good Samaritan Ministries of Stokesdale, Inc. Come on out and join in the fun!!

I know a lot of folks in Stokesdale are excited about getting to tour the quarry. It is located on Highway 158 near Hwy 220. Coming from 220 you will see it on your right.

FORGOT TO SAY TICKETS WILL BE SOLD AT THE EVENT THROUGHOUT THE DAY!

Vicki, correct me if I am wrong, but I was told that Congressman Howard Coble will also be there on Saturday to meet and greet voters!
