Hello, everybody! Just thought I'd comment on the "Senior Projects." First, I don't think they are going away. I THINK they are now part of the requirements for graduation, maybe in the whole state. Kris is right, in the past, one of the English teachers had the students do a career study project so they could have a better idea of what to pursue, or what they were getting themselves into. For several years though, other schools in our area have been doing projects the way Northwest now does them. I think this is just NWHS' second year, with my older son's class being the first required to do them. (Kris' older daughter was also in that class.) I wasn't as involved in how things went this year, but last year kids were supposed to learn how to do something new, write a paper about it and have a display board that demonstrated the process and what they learned. There were projects about skydiving, fencing, sewing, cooking, playing musical instruments, etc. Maybe they have a different theme each year?

Kris, maybe I'll see you on Friday. Philip is taking me to see "Da Vinci" as part of his Mother's Day gift to me!

There is more to senior projects than just the subject matter that they pick. I have judged senior projects for the last 3 years. The students makes a presentation to 3 judges, we ask them a lot of questions. Then we give them support and advised them how this ties into real life. It helps them with public speaking and how to handle question from someone that they don't know. Most projects that I have seen have been tied to what they want to do after school. If parents could see what their child goes though during judging, they would know how well senior project prepares them for the future.

Good Point Mike.  I didn't think about the public speaking/quick thinking aspect of the Senior Projects.  How nice of you to volunteer your time to judge!

Oh!  Good morning everyone!

Macca they did do the debunking the daVinci code segment on Nightline.  It was dumb though.  Just some man trying to sell his book negating Dan Brown's book.

What a let down.

Not quite sure what you may have witnessed from other Seniors, my daughter did hers on Depression.

My daughter in a NC Teaching Fellow - majoring in elementary ed/minor in math. She wanted to write an elementary curriculum program and go into a classroom and teach it. She was told that she could not do this - that she needed to choose something outside of her intented career area. :? So, she made curtains and wrote a paper on color choice in interior design. Steve, did you go to the open house and see the project boards/displays? The majority of the ones I saw last year were "How to _________ (fill in the blank with a hobby, sport, musical instrument, etc)

I'm glad your daughter was able to do her project on something useful to her. I know part of the problem for my daughter last year was that she was in the "guinea pig" group (had to do her project during the first quarter - that's another beef I had. She was swamped with college and scholarship applications, SAT,etc at the same time!)

Vicki is right - the senior project is not going away. I think it's state mandated. Mini-Mc #2 is nearly a senior so round 2 for us is just around the corner. She would like to start her project this summer IF she can get it approved this month.

I guess everyone knows by now....

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY and wife have separated.... Poor Paul. Seems such a decent guy. I like the way he lives his life. Hate to hear about him going thru hard times again. (He took first wife Linda's death very hard.....)

I BET HE LIKES LOTS OF HEARTS! (I'm probably too young for him though.... and there's the distance thing.... and the family thing.... and I'd probably have to move away.... Have to figure out how to meet him without acting like a stalker.... and then there's the whole body makeover I'd need....)

Hmmmm.... I might be busy for a while, but don't worry!!!:D ♥♥♥

Remember, this Saturday is Founder's Day in Summerfield.  Parade, kid activities, arts and crafts, music, food.  It was lots of fun last year and this year will be even better!
