I've been hangin' out over in the Spanish forums and I didn't want to have to post these in spanish so here they are.....
G.I. Joe Doll is introduced... I have some nephews who would stomp me for calling them dolls..... (They're Action Figures you know!!)
Biggest power failure in history causes 9-hour blackout in eastern Canada and US, leading to surge in national birthrates 9 months later. (interesting.)
Star Trek debuts on NBC. (for the trekkies)
First staging of the Stupidbowl.
Dr. Martin Luther King assassinated.
Woodstock.
The Beatles split up.
I think take the off. They were pretty embarrassing.....

I think this number is kind of like the fish story, where the fish keeps growing every time someone tells the story.
Layoffs are always ugly, but the writeups in the paper are nowhere near this number. Still a rough time in Detroit right now.

Allen Breed invented a "sensor and safety system" in 1968, the world's first electromechanical automotive airbag system.
In 1971, the Ford car company built an experimental airbag fleet. General Motors tested airbags on the 1973 model Chevrolet automobile that were only sold for government use. The 1973, Oldsmobile Toronado was the first car with a passenger air bag intended for sale to the public.
Interesting........I worked for Breed Technologies before my current employer (back in mid-90's).
Allen Breed was a very intelligent man......unfortunately he came down with cancer, let his nut case wife Johnnie Breed run the company, she ran the company right into bankruptcy with too many poorly researched acquisitions, and poor Allen watched his company plunge into bankruptcy just before his death.
Exactly correct on the 73 Toronado....the inflator which fills the airbag, today is about the size of a can of shaving cream, back in those days was more like a mid-sized fire extinguisher. not enough room under the Instrument Panel to fit it all.

AI Report.... Kris.... I think poor Lisa's mistake was to sing that Kelly Clarkson song. Don't ya just hate when they make the people sing after getting the boot??? Makes me sad for them.
That Daniel Powter song "Bad Day" that they play each week makes me sadder.
Ace is going next week... I'd say Bucky or Kellie, but it's gonna be country week so they'll do ok. I'm stepping up the voting for Katherine.....
Gotta go see what this unanimous show is all about....

Law me.... I'm already up to the 80's..... Ahhhh the 80's....
Unfortunately, when I think of the 80's, I think MULLET. You know, the hairstyle. Really short hair in the front and long flowing locks in the back??? Picture a #7 and that's what the side view of a mullet looks like.
Let's MULL over the Mullet for a bit shall we???
Once that good ol' Achy Breaky boy Billy Ray Cyrus stepped off the barber chair sporting his new "do", creating the sensation that has become the mullet, no one was safe.... Everyone was wearing one. The Beastie Boys wrote a little ditty about it. The '93 Phillies had an entire team wearing "neck warmers" and Brad Pitt even sported a mullet in Thelma and Louise.
The term mullet has been traced back to the movie "Cool Hand Luke" (though I'm seriously doubting that Paul Newman ever sported one) because George Kennedy calls the southern boys with long hair, "mulletheads". The mullet has had many nicknames over the years. My personal favorites are: Tennessee top hat, business in the front party in the back, the ape drape, the mud flap, and achy breaky - big mistakey.
Unfortunately, some people did not get the memo that the 80's are over.
The mullet is
The "do" that still does.
Despite widespread ridicule and mockery this haircut continues to thrive.
There are websites galore out there with pics of these hairstyles. People are wearing them proudly and the MULLET HUNTERS are after them. The mullet hunters make it their life's mission to hunt down the mullet and get a photo of it for the www. They can be sneaky, so if you are wearing a mullet, your pic is probably out there somewhere....
If you are wearing a mullet, cut it off. If a family member is wearing a mullet, drive them to the barber/beauty shop(preferably not the one that gave them the mullet).
Let's work together and do what we can to eradicate the mullet!!!
