Kris did you notice that the seller is located in KERNERSVILLE?  Seems like you could save a dime on shipping and just ride up there for your kit!  :P

Yep, I saw that - too funny! Let me be sure and clarify - THAT was NOT what I was looking for on ebay! I'm with Lacka on crocheted covers - I don't understand that decorating technique at all :? I'm trying to find an angel tree topper for the winterguard group this Saturday. No luck so far but I've put out an APB. Ya'll got any ideas? I've got one parent calling around to stores to see if we could borrow something from their store decorations. It's got to be big - 12-15 inches or so and hopefully silver....

Hey! I just noticed that I hit 1929 posts and this brainstorm hit me....

I have decided to periodically post something that happened during the year of my post.... for instance this is post 1930 so

In 1930, Pluto (our smallest planet, not the dog) was discovered.

See what I mean??

Can't wait for 1931...lots more good stuff happened that year...

Uh huh,Kris.... SURE! ;)

BTW, Good idea calling retailers... I got a gigantic red christmas ball one year from the ABC store! I don't know why.....It was just cool.

1931 - One of the most popular urban icons of our time (and IMHO the most beautiful) opened this year. Unfortunately since it opened during the depression the office space wasn't filled for many years to come...

 The Empire State Building

Seems this guy named Van Alen and the Architects for Empire State were in an unofficial battle to see who could build the tallest skyscraper... Van Alen's strategy was to construct the beautiful pinnacle for the Chrysler building inside of the building and raise it through the roof when the building neared completion.... The ESB folks just added a little hitching post for dirigibles (that was never actually used) on top of their building and took care of that problem... Bravo!

Chrysler pierces the sky at 1046 feet and the ESB, at 1250 feet reigned supreme for 41 years until the World Trade Center was built.  Several buildings have surpassed this height, and the race is continuing.

The tallest building to date is being built in Dubai, United Arab Emirates and while the actual height is Top Secret, it is guesstimated to reach 2313 feet high!  It is expected to be finished in 2008.  Considering the fact that the ESB was constructed in only 16 months, without the use of modern machinery, I'd say that's still pretty impressive!

Won't be so wordy next time I promise!!!

Oh.. for Aeolius... 1931 - Chevrolet launched the Pickup Truck!

Rumor has it that the original RJR building in Winston-Salem was the inspiration for the top of the Empire State Building. Someone visiting W-S liked it and asked the architects to incorporate its design into the ESB!!! ♥♥♥

I feel HONORED just to live near the rumored inspiration for the ESB. I read somewhere that the JP building in downtown GSO was modeled after the ESB.

1932 - Carrier Corp invents air conditioning. (Thank Goodness!!!)

I am here, in Detroit MI tonight.

My wife threw quite a birthday party Saturday night...........I spent the day Saturday helping her with getting ready, all of Sunday "recuperating", and today (Monday) travelling......sorry I've been absent,  However I've seen the nice comments, and the nice PM's from folks.

Just reinforces what I've been feeling for a long time........this is the best place we've ever lived, and no reason to ever think about leaving it.

So, now we have two more days to wish him Happy Birthday and we're all early instead of late!
Thanks Patti for the head start on the celebrating.

I did a little too much "celebrating" this weekend, paid for it Sunday, and now on the road, so the celebrating on the actual day (28th) will be with my friends on the forum............which is great !!!!!!!!
