CJ, I am enjoying your trek thru history, will be interested to see what year airbags were officially introduced.  I'm going to guess it will be in the 1970's sometime.......

I don't know if I'll make it that far Steve-O.... The psychedelic sixties  might do me in!!

I went ahead and looked it up in case I'm in a "Purple Haze" when I come out of the 60's.....  :D

Allen Breed invented a "sensor and safety system" in 1968, the world's first electromechanical automotive airbag system.

In 1971, the Ford car company built an experimental airbag fleet. General Motors tested airbags on the 1973 model Chevrolet automobile that were only sold for government use. The 1973, Oldsmobile Toronado was the first car with a passenger air bag intended for sale to the public.

WOW... I had no idea airbags were so controversial. If you do a search for the History of Airbags, it's amazing the negative info that pops up!

PLEASE DO NOT ever let your kids ride shotgun!!!!  There are some real horror stories out there about what airbags do to kids and even grown ups who are "vertically challenged"....

The airbag pros still outweigh the cons in my opinion.

Thanks for making me learn something new today Steve-O!

macca, what a good idea. Sorry I missed the opportunity to add Steve's birth to my historical chronicals. Of course, you could have pointed that out to me YESTERDAY!!!!  :D Nothing much else probably even happened in 1956.....We'll see.

GM employees were told......if you have a company car, drive it to work with all duplicate sets of keys. All vacations are cancelled.

Make sure you bring all company property with you including laptop, credit cards, cameras, phones, pagers, blackberries, etc.

You will be advised during the course of the day if you still have a job or not.

The unofficial number being thrown around was 36,000 employees being laid off.  Amazingly, the reports are largely verbal, I am not seeing anything of significance in newspapers???

You would think the www would be crawling with info/gossip on this subject, but I haven't found anything of substance, other than USA Today's article from yesterday announcing that the layoffs were going to happen.

It's a sad thing for sure.  We need to keep these people in our thoughts.

The Idol..... Lisa or Ace going home.

Chris did not impress me tonight.  Mandisa and Katherine did.... I might just move ol' Katherine up to my #1 pick... We'll have to see.

Yep, Cracker, as usual, excellent Idol report!

I kinda agree with Simon, Chris needs to show us something a little different. I thought Mandisa did a good job but sort of the same thing as with Chris, it was "safe" for her - she said she had sung that song many times in church. Katharine has really shown some growth and change! I didn't really like Elliot's "style" last night but he sure has a great voice.

Taylor - I like him a little more each week :)  Ace - I like him less each week :(

My bottom 3 prediction: Lisa, Ace and Bucky (or maybe Kellie!) I think Lisa is going home this week though.

Yall, Cracker is nearing his 2000th post! We need to do something special!
This brings up another subject. We should create some sort of incentive package for whoever can reach... oh, say 2,500 posts (Sandra, you want to get rid of any more of those NWO sweatshirts?)

Not to change the subject again, but you know how the larger cities make fun of little towns like Summerfield, Oak Ridge, and Stokesdale? Where here is an interesting article I read about a little town that has issued a Restraining Order to...

(Prepare Yourselves)

A CAT, named Lewis (aka Psycho Kitty) was just issued a restraining order by the city of Fairfield, Connecticut (about 40,000 people) for attacking 6 neighbors and "ambushing" a woman as she got out of her car. He has ultimately been put under house arrest for "reckless endangerment" and "disturbing the peace."

Yeah, I 'member ol' Abd. His real name was Ed, but he got kicked in the mouth by a wild Arabian mule an' Abd was the best he could do tryin' to say Ed. Ain't seen the boy in years.

Jacob....

Way back '28 or '29 (That's post #1928 or 1929 for me) I decided to post a historical fact  to coincide with the # of posts I had...... Posting on other forums throws my numbers off so sometimes I have to play catch up.   Basically it's just my theme d'jour or however you spell that....

I'll be over it soon (probably when I hit the psychedelic years) so just bear with me....

BTW.... I did not bring up the NWO Sweatshirt thing... YOU did!

AND it is no secret that I am a sucker for a free giveaway.....

However, if you would like to go for the 2500 post free NWO sweatshirt, please help yourself. :D I am prepared to race ya!!! :P
