A couple of books that I just finished

Stealing the General by Gordon S. Wood .  A good civil war true story about Union soldiers sneaking into Georgia to steal the General, a train.

Last Men Out by Jon Downey:    A really great cant put down book about Rescue 2 of the FDNY. Most of what is covered is from 1960 thru 2005.They lost 6 members on 9/11, they had made it to the 56th floor.

Crackah!! Just saw Roy do a commercial for "Roy's Folks"!! They're bringing it back to Fox8 news on Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:55 pm. He also said it would be on the Fox8 morning show. :D It said "New!" so I guess that means it's not just the repeats they've been showing ... I mean "classics!" :D

Okay, I know I'm w--a---aaa--y behind the times, but I just don't like to be a slave to what everyone else is doing!:D

I went to the used bookstore in Guilford College and bought the Harry Potter books we didn't have today. We had a couple in hardback and one in paperback, and I found the ones we needed except for the second.

So, I've begun "The Sorcerer's Stone" and figure I'll find "The Chamber of Secrets" at Edward McKay's so I won't have to break down and pay full price for it before I finish "Stone." Love those used bookstores!! :D

All right -- No spoilers! I've just met Dumbledore for the first time!! Maybe my little bit of knowledge from seeing "Order of the Phoenix" won't spoil me too much! The little maccas have suggested that I could watch each movie as I finish each book! We've got some of them already. Woo hoo!!♥♥♥

Life's magic as Daniel Radcliffe turns 18
July 23, 2007

LONDON (Reuters) - Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe gains access to a reported 20 million pounds ($40 million) fortune when he turns 18 on Monday, but he insists the money won't cast a spell on him.

To the disappointment of gossip columnists around the world, the young actor says he has no plans to fritter his cash away on fast cars, drink and celebrity parties.

"The things I like buying are things that cost about 10 pounds -- books and CDs and DVDs."

At 18, Radcliffe will be able to gamble in a casino, buy a drink in a pub or see the horror film "Hostel: Part II," currently six places below his number one movie on the UK box office chart.

Details of how he'll mark his landmark birthday are under wraps. His agent and publicist had no comment on his plans.

"I'll definitely have some sort of party," he said in an interview. "Hopefully none of you will be reading about it."

Radcliffe's earnings from the first five Potter films have been held in a trust fund which he has not been able to touch.

Despite his growing fame and riches, the actor says he is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.

"People are always looking to say 'kid star goes off the rails,"' he told reporters last month. "But I try very hard not to go that way because it would be too easy for them."

His latest outing as the boy wizard in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" is breaking records on both sides of the Atlantic and he will reprise the role in the last two films.

There is life beyond Potter, however.

The Londoner has filmed a TV movie called "My Boy Jack," about author Rudyard Kipling and his son, due for release later this year. He will also appear in "December Boys," an Australian film about four boys who escape an orphanage.

Earlier this year, he made his stage debut playing a tortured teenager in Peter Shaffer's "Equus."

Can you imagine???? Seeing the mention of "Equus" reminded me of something I heard him say during one of the numerous interviews he's been doing. Said that each night as he left the theatre he wore the same clothes, so that no matter when the papparrazzi (sp?) took his pic, it always looked like the same one! Sounds like a smart young man!! :D

My husband and I went to see "Sicko" Saturday. I don't care how you feel about Michael Moore if some of the stories of average ordinary peoples encounters with Insurance companies and medical care don't bring tears to your eyes then you have no heart. If this movie doesn't make you stop and wonder what in the world is going to happen in a country as wealthy as ours with 50 million people with out health insurance then you are watching too much "American Idol". It is a very thought provoking movie. Well worth the price.

Thanks for that post, Jane! I thought I'd like to see it (even though it will probably make me really angry) but you are the first person I've heard from who's actually seen it. I need to figure out when I can go...

Macca It made me more sad actually than angry. Sad at the apathy and lack of care for our neighbors. Sad that we allow big business and the government get away with what it is getting away with.  The massive propaganda about universal health care but the fact remains that 50 million of us don't sleep at night for worrying about what if we get sick. It isn't just poor people or illegal imigrants although why they don't deserve medical care I am not sure.  It is middle class people who don't have health insurance.

He also addresses medical care for a profit and compares our system to 4 other systems. Our system isn't working. We are paying more and dying younger.

Let me know what you think.

I'm about halfway through "The Sorcerer's Stone." I didn't realize that the twins were Ron's brothers!

Hope I find the second book by the time I finish this one! It's the only one the Guilford College store didn't have.... Will need to go to Edward McKay's soon!

I missed Pickler macca.  :(

Last time I saw her she looked like a cross between Tammy Wynette and Dolly Parton.  Nothing like the cute little thing I watched on American Idol. :?

Thanks for trying to let me know though! :D

Her hair was short, parted on the side, kind of a page-boy style.

She looked cute and sang the same twangy way as always. I didn't particularly care for the first song she sang, something about moving to Tennessee. She wrote it. The second one was about red high heels.

She said she's dating a Canadian hockey player....

Now it looks like another of America's top "role models" is headed back to rehab.  Lindsay Lohan busted this morning for a DUI and for having cocaine in her pockets......

Her new movie comes out this weekend (Not that I would have seen it, mind you).  To borrow a word from one of our council members, :D I think the timing of some of these Hollywood/legal incidents is "suspect."
