Someone told me just yesterday about Phoenix Jane.  They recommended it HIGHLY.  I'll have to check that out.

Haven't been to the Wrightsville beach one.  Is the Oceanic still down there by Crystal Pier?  Talk about YUMMY food!!! Used to go there every year.

I know nothing else about Wrightsville. We stay at Carolina and drive over to eat at Portland Grille when we can get a reservation.

Carolina Beach!!! Well why didn't you say so???   Did you ever eat at the GulfStream Restaurant???   That was the best little hole in the wall restaurant in all of NC!!!!

It's right across from where you get on that big tour ferry...

I haven't been down there lately... I sure hope it's still there.

I don't think it is still there. Do you mean the ferry that you take to South Port? I don't know of any other Ferry there now. Carolina beach is going the way of all beaches, bigger and bigger, taller and taller. I rather like Carolina before this transformation very unpretentous,

No Down near where that turquoise McDonalds was.... on the Waterway waterfront....  There was this big boat that would take folks on little rides up and down the waterway. We'd watch folks wait for that boat to leave while we were eating breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Gulf Stream.  It was the restaurant where all of the locals hung out.  Not on the usual tour map.... Sort of a "Your House" kinda place.  Look for it if you go back.

(I could draw you a map, but I don't know any of the street names....  It's on a little side street running between beach road and the Highway)

Jane, we've been wanting to try Phoenix. Do they cook at the table? Love Japanese and the cooking show is fun!

Kris- No cooking at the table but good fresh cooked food.  It's a big restaurant too. I was surprised when I went in.

Cracker- I think that restaurant is closed if its the one I think it is. I think the building has been condemned and they are going to tear it down and build some sort of high rise there.

If anybody eats at Village Tavern, and a hostess named Kayla seats you, tell her Dad said Hi.

Village Tavern is our favorite.  Consistantly good food and service, moderate pricing, good wine list...and pleasant staff!  Will look for Kayla next time.

Crackah goes to HAM'S

I am embarrassed to say this, but tonight I ate at Ham's for the FIRST TIME IN LIKE 20 YEARS (yes, I know that would make me 9 when I last ate there Mike.  ;))

I know, I know... where have I been?  We used to frequent the one on Friendly during the college years, but just never made my way back there.

So it all started when Hubby got a gift card for Christmas from Ham's. One night we tried the Brassfield location, but they were packed and we ended up at Lone Star.  Last night we set out for Ham's Lakeside over off Cone Blvd, but did not account for March Madness and the cars were lined up for blocks.  I was beginning to think we would be taking the Ham's card to the grave.  It just wasn't meant to be.

Then a friend mentioned that there was a Ham's on 68 in the Palladium shopping center so tonight we set our caps to try once again.  It was difficult for me to pass the Backyard Burger cause I LOVE ME A BACKYARD BURGER, but we traveled onward on a mission now to use the Ham's gift card.

Drove up.  Looked roomy so we decided to give it a go.  After a mere 25 minute wait we were seated and Heidi waited on us.  She was great.  Drew pictures for Ritz Bits on the menu and everything.

Anyway... MY POINT IS... I had fried the shrimp and that was absolutely the best fried shrimp I have ever had.

And yes we had the chips, but hubby makes them and they are just as good.

Get the fried shrimp.
