Family Diner is on Hwy 68 next door to the car lot on one side and the convenience store on the other. You can get hot plate dinners (meat & 2 veg w/tea) for $4.55! Last night they had BBQ chicken, Cubed Steak & gravy, peas & corn, pintos, green beans, creamed potatoes, deviled eggs, slaw, mac salad, & I forget what else. They also do dessert - last night it was peach cobbler or some type of cake - your choice! Also, they have short orders like burgers, salads, etc. pretty good for the price! This one guy got a hot dog, fries & water & only paid under $3... gotta luv that!

YUMMY! We'll have to try that!
I hate to say it but our little diner in Summerfield is a little too overpriced for what you get in my opinion.

I haven't heard anything about what they are doing with the Teresa's Restaurant property. (I'm assuming that's the one you are talking about) I know Kris and I were hoping an Olive Garden would appear there one day, but I'm not holding my breath till that happens.
Wonder if Sandra knows..... Sandra?

Here are some of my favorites in the 1.5 years i have lived in North Carolina
Mexican - La Fiesta off Wendover on Bridford Pkwy(i think). Great mexican, not overdone or americanized too much
Thai -- Rearn Thai off of Market. This place is awesome, great food, basic atmosphere and very clean. Not your average stripmall style.
Chinese -- Authentic, nothing i have found yet. For fusion I like Pheonix off of New Garden or if all else fails PF Changs
Italian -- If i go chain i only go Macaroni Grill, no TOG. Elizabeths is fine for Italian American or southern italian dishes (sauces and meat)
German -- Haven't found one yet, I am German descent so if you know one let me know.
BBQ -- I haven't been sold on the Lexington Style but coming from Chicago, originally, BBQ was more about the sauce than the meat. I did like a place that closed up 68 called Pappy's. He only does catering now, but he did (does) a slow smoked brisket that should win him a Nobel Peace Prize.
Indian -- Nikita (may not be open anymore) this guy has another location just south of the harris teeter plaza on 68 toward high point. This is probably my favorite style of food, the flavors are, IMHO, the most complex and varying in all world cuisine. They are, afterall, keepers of the great world spices. One could argue that we owe america to the indian cooking culture, it was the main reason that Columbus set out to bump, accidently into the West "Indies" and "discover" america (new world). Even if scandinavians beat him out by several centuries he still got the rich nations to look this way. They wanted a fast route to the spice islands and india. The food, like the people and culture, has a massive spectrum of flavor. In india over 1500 dialects are spoken, leading to you see that with a country that vast and varied the food must reflect it. If you love chinese you will love indian because of the use of some of the same spices like ginger, if you love italian you will love indian because of the savoriness of northern dishes, if you love mexican then you will love indian, the indian culture knows hot and spicy like no one else, i repeat no one else. If you are eating for the first time always opt for mild spiciness. I have been addicted to indian cuisine for about 6 years now and never venture above medium spicy in places where i know what that means. Seriously, not a lot of people try this food because of cullinary fear or culture misconceptions, you are the only one losing in that scenario.
Those are my favorites. Also for a good coffee, conversation and ham/cheese croisant (sp?) i go to Rendovoux (sp?) Cafe in the Commons Shopping Center, Oak Ridge. The owner, Julien, is a great guy, french, former chef of genache in greensboro and the place is great for coffee, food, wifi working lunches and conversation.
and before you ask, yes i don't like to capitalize too much, it is a quirk.
Cheers,
Stonefree -- Do what i please - JH

Got it. Actually at home i have switched to grinding all my own patties. I like to add stuff into the meat for more flavor and I like knowing what is ground in there is all meat, and know what cut I used for it.
Love to hear of a good old Granny Burger, I love the name!

Being genetically southern, I didn't know what a granny burger was either stonefree!
DToney, for a good fast food burger, I like to eat at Backyard Burger on 68.
Cookout on Battleground (behind Omega Sports) used to be good, but the last couple of times it was just so-so. Maybe it was because I ordered a small burger and they cooked it to death. Cookout is worth visiting for the milkshakes alone.... And I don't know if they pipe that smell outta there or what, but it smells like Granny's backyard!!!! YUM!

I reckon you could call "granny burger" a "personal term" used to describe the best burger you can buy in a restaurant. It is definitely not in Webster!
Thanks for the tips! I'll have to check them out... the one on 68... is it closer to I-40?
