I had a similar experience at that same Applebees. My wife and I went to eat with some of our friends who have a 2 and a 4 year old. Anyway, waited forever to sit (for no reason) and when we ordered, it took forever to get the food. Well tahnkfully the kids' food came earlier than the rest but they finished eating before the rest of us got our food. By this time, none of us could eat because the kids were getting very restless. This was on a Sunday so the kids had been up a while going to church. Finally a few of the meals came out but not all. One of these had steamed veggies that tasted like dish soap. Like they had been steamed over a pool of liquid soap! The manager even tasted it and gave us all our meals for free. However, by that time we were all so ready to leave that those of us who had not yet gotten their food did not even want to bother. We left a tip for the (somewhat existent) server and got out of there never to return again.
-not that I particularly care for the food/prices anyway.

I'm not sure whether or not it will do any good, but I did forward a copy of both Jane and bama's complaint about the Battleground Avenue resturant location service issues to the Guest Relations Department at Applebee's national corporate headquarters. I did this first because they are the only ones in a position to cure these quality control issues and secondly, out of curiosity of whether they will care enough to respond. I will let you know if I hear anything back from them.

Oh Jim I will tell you exactly what they are going to say because I have already done that. I got an email back saying they were forwarding my complaint on to the local office and that they hoped I would come back. It will be a cold day in ..... before I set foot in Applebees again.

Jane, here is an update.
I did get the same email which you received saying they had forwarded my email complaint to their local franchisor and that I would be hearing directly from them.
The next day, I received an email from the franchisor saying they were reviewing my complaint and would be back in touch.
This morning, in the mail (US Post) I received a very nice letter from the franchisor in Raleigh apologizing for the lack of quality service (that the service issue complaint really wasn't my own wasn't mentioned) and then asked that I consider returning for a visit to one of their North Carolina restaurants. They enclosed some very nice free passes for 4 free meals in their mailing, so I will try them out and let you know if the service has improved.
I was actually impressed by their response and always appreciate a free meal or two or four!
I may have received a somewhat different response (4 free meal passes) than you did for the simple reason that I included my postal mailing address in my initial email complaint to Applebees.

Thats interesting Jim. I had the sorry service and they didn't send me anything. Let us know what happens. Unfortunately I will not be finding out for myself.

Jane, maybe I should 'treat' you and Bama to a free lunch or dinner over at Applebees to make amends for your earlier lack of service!
Why heck, we'll even invite Pappy along for entertainment purposes. Who knows, with Pappy and I in there together a'hootin' and a'hollerin', they might even rush their service to get us out of there and even pay us to leave!
Pappy wonder if they'uns serve bacon?

^ no worries. you did the leg work. You enjoy the meal. I don't care to return either. I never really liked it in the first place. the price for the food (which isnt spectacular) just isnt worth it. For the money, i would prefer to go to other places. Thanks for the info tho.

Can't help it. I'm seriously addicted to the Crispy Orange Chicken Bowl at Applebees. I'm a big fan of the Carside To Go service though.....

We tried the Japanese restaurant in Oak Ridge the other night. Kobe? Hibachi style food.... Pretty good! Great service and great prices! Menu is a bit limited, chicken, steak shrimp and tofu . Tons of meat for the money though and the sauces were divine!

I ate at Laddie & Dukes the other day for the last time. Every time I've been I always get some rude waitor that acts like it's a bother that we are eating there. The food is ALWAYS SO bland. I ate the chicken pot pie and I couldn't taste a thing. I had the people with me try it and they couldn't taste it either. Put a fork in me, I'm done.
Red Robin on New Garden Rd is a great place to eat. I have eaten there several times. The waitors are ALWAYS friendly, you don't have to wait a long time. And the manager always comes by and asks if the service we are getting is good. I really like that, it shows that they really appreciate our business.
Wholly Guacamole is good as well. There is never a wait, food is brought out promptly, and the waitors are extremely nice.
Elizabeth's Pizza at Horse Pen Creek Rd is good. My favorite is the baked ziti. I always say I will try something different, but I end up getting that every time LOL.
IHOP at Green Valley Rd - A lady told me she went there for lunch a few weeks ago and roaches were crawling up the wall behind her AAAACCCK! I will take her word for it and I won't eat there.

I posted this some time back but Applebees is absolutely off my list. Never not ever will I try to eat there. Love Village Tavern, Lucky 32, Green Valley Grill and Cafe Pasta.
Has anybody tried the new italian restuarant in the shopping center across from Brassfield? It got good reviews in the paper. Use to be the Thai restuarant.

I haven't eaten at that new place Jane. You are SO on the money about Applebee's on Battleground. The service is TERRIBLE! Especially during lunch. The waitors are SLOW and hateful. They need to get a clue. No wonder when I drive by there I never see a lot of cars in their parking lot.
