Hmmmmm Grits. That bears thinkin' about. I usually only edit if I catch a typo or something, but I have edited from time to time if I wanted to take back a comment.
I edit. A lot. But it's more because I am very obsessive about proper spelling (that doesn't mean I'm a good speller. The first time, anyways.) and that I notice that my post may not have come off the way I wanted. For instance, on the first post on the last page, I edited to add a smiley. After posting, I thought my post came off as too serious and a bit harsh. It was meant as a joke, so I edited. I think that there are a lot of good uses to editing, even though there are bad ones. I think it's a feature worth keeping.

GRITS wrote: Patti, I enjoy reading the forum. It discusses many issue that are important . However, I suggest that an update to the software so that statements cannot be edited to the original post. If a correction needs to be made, a new comment should be added. I find this capability misleading and leads to confusion.
I noticed one change, how many times has this actually occured?
Hi Grits, we actually are in the process of custom designing the forum software ... it should be ready to make its debut in a couple of weeks.
Regarding editing posts, I do know what you mean, but would like to hear opinions from others as to whether we should keep or eliminate this option. I recently posted something on a News & Record blog and though I was careful in my writing, it did make me a little uncomfortable when I realized after hitting the send button that I couldn't make any changes to what I'd written. I'm kind of like Queue in that I'm a stickler for spelling and like having the option of making corrections, as well as modifying what I've written. I especially like being able to edit because this message board allows us to communicate informally, yet our posts can be copied and shared with others (as we've recently found out), so the option of tweaking what we've said before it goes too far down the line has its value.
What do the rest of you think about taking away the option of editing?

I think I'm gonna have to agree with Queue (very handsome avatar btw Q). The reasons to allow edits far outweigh the reasons to get rid of them....
I think for the most part edits are made for the reasons Q stated, and MOST of the time the content of the post doesn't change... just the tone maybe.

I might be a few posts last with this reply but I wanted to chime in and give my two cents. I do use the edit bottom for the same reasons that Queue mentioned. I may say something that just doesn't read well or read the way that I meant it. My brain sometimes works faster than my fingers so unfortunately I might miss a word or misspell. Thank goodness for spell check!! Anyways... I understand the confusion that it may cause, but I find "Edit" a helpful tool for me.

Major, major, major Heroes fan! *Is very excited to have another Heroes fan*
Sylar is crazy-scary. But in a way that fascinates me.
Isn't it? But I really, really doubt that they'd kill him off. He's a huge part of the show. (What do I know? I'm one who said they'd never make you-know-who Claire's father.)

GRITS wrote: For example, I noticed over the weekend that a comment was made on an earlier post by an individual. I was offended and I made note of it. The individual apologized and also went back to the original post and changed what was said. A footnote was placed to make the indication, but the problem is that if someone had not read the previous insert no one knows what is going on. Also, a footnote does not always have to be noted.
I was the poster that GRITS made reference to, and did as she mentioned, both apologize for a comment which she felt offended by, and then went back to the earlier post with a correction, and a footnote to explain why the correction and edit had occurred.
I edit a lot (mostly for spelling) and obviously would vote to continue the edit feature. I have also by way of edit removed entire posts previously made for various and sundry reasons, including not wishing to have said post printed elsewhere.

FLYING MAN!
Hiro cracks me up! He's the greatest!
Isn't Flying man Claire's father? I missed part of the last episode so she might have gotten a new father ... maybe I have it saved somewhere and haven't watched it yet...
I did see the end where Sylar had Mohinder on the ceiling and Peter was getting his head sawed off... scary scary scary.
Yea, I don't think they'll kill off Sylar, his character's too important, but for the same reasons, I have hope for Peter...

For now, Nathan is Claire's dad. (You never know if they'll change that.)
You can watch all of the episodes online at NBC.com during the breaks.

Deb & I got a call this afternoon that our new God-Daughter will be born tonight in Mexico. I am delighted she will share a birthday with me, what a blessing !!!
We are anxious to talk with the parents tomorrow to know she was born healthy, we know her parents well, they've been guests in our house several times, are both fine people, and will be fine parents.
Deb & I will be going down to spend time with the new (first time) parents & the newborn soon.
The Mexicans consider God Parenting serious business, you're expected to take an active role in the childs life for the duration. We were shocked when the parents asked us to assume that role, didn't think they were really serious at first, but were honored beyond words when it became apparent they were dead serious.
I'll keep you posted when we find more out.

Congratulations Steve! That does sound like quite an honor and I'm sure you and Deb will be great God-parents.
Do you have any endearing name, by the way, such as Poppy or Pop-Pop or Pappy or G-Dad? If not, would you like us to help come up with one for you?
