Don't you moderators have an EXPORT button or something back there behind the scenes???  Then you could EXPORT it to word, burn me a copy <smiling> and then delete the file since it'd probably be a zillion gigabytes or something.

OK, I did some digging in the Administrators area, and did find an export function.  Therefore I backed the database up to my hard drive.   All 8 meg of it.

Only trouble is......tried to open it, and it leads me to a string of softwares you have to buy to read it.  It's a Gz file. Tried to change the string to a .doc file, didn't work.   If anybody thinks they can open it, then PM me your email addess, and you're free to try.

Good News - the data base is backed up

Bad News - can't open it up to see exactly what that means

Has anyone seen the local news about the fire at Eastern Guilford High School this afternoon?

WFMY Television is reporting that Eastern Guilford has been totally destroyed by fire and herein is an excerpt from their story as reported on their website,

http://www.wfmy.com/news/local_state/article.aspx?storyid=74078

Fire At Eastern Guilford High School Expected To Burn Through The Night

The fire, which started shortly after 2:00 pm on Wednesday, is still burning and fire crews expect to be on the scene for at least another day.

Guilford County, NC -- If the video footage is any indication, Eastern Guilford High School is a total loss.

According to school leaders and emergency officials, the fire started just before 2:30 pm on Wednesday in an empty chemistry lab.

A teacher at the school apparently discovered the fire, and tried to extinguish the flames, but was unsuccessful.

Students were quickly evacuated from the building to one of the school's playing fields and then to a nearby church.

While no one was injured, it appears the fire will render the building a total loss.

School administrators were meeting on Wednesday night to start planning where the school's nearly 1000 students will continue their classes.

Here is a weblink to the Greensboro News & Record story on the Eastern Guilford High School fire and total loss damage which is confirming the WFMY story:

http://www.news-record.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061101/NEWSREC0101/61101023

The Greensboro News & Record story has updates on their story as follows:

8:30 p.m.: Authorities confirm that one of the walls of the school has collapsed with the potential for further collapses.

Three firefighters were injured - one was treated at the scene, while the others went to a hospital, said Mike Wright, deputy director of operations for Guilford County EMS. Wright said firefighters were no longer being sent into the school because it was too dangerous, and he described the current operations as being "defensive."

6:35 p.m.: Flames continue to show through the top of the building and at least one exterior wall has collapsed.

6:20 p.m. "We have serious questions about the structural integrity of that building after this fire," Superintendent Terry Grier said en route to the district offices, where he and other school officials were meeting to discuss what happens next.

"Those kids will not go back to school there this year, there's no question," he said. "We'll look at a lot of different options tonight. Our primary goal is to try to keep the classes together as much as we can."

I have watched in horror all afternoon the school burning. Our house burned down in the 70's as I stood and watched the fireman. I didn't realize that I still carry some of the trauma all these many years later. Thank God the children got out safely and that while there were some fireman injuries none seem to be life threatening. The teachers and principals who rounded up those thousand kids and kept them safe should all get medals.

Poor kids though. They will be split up and moved about. I wonder if they will move the lines some how and the new Northern middle school will be used to take up the slack. Poor Northwest if that in fact is what happens.

If they started tonight building a new Eastern it will take at the very least 2 years and probably longer since they have to wait for the insurance money and all.

Makes you count your blessing doesn't it?

the worse part of the whole aftermath of the EGHS fire is that we are 20 years behind on providing the necessary facilities for our students & now we are one more building short!  It certainly does NOTHING to help our delimma in getting our schools up to par for the amount of children we need to educate!  It is a terrible tragedy that Eastern is gone.... my heart goes out to the students & all who are affected.

Mornin' everybody.

So sad about Eastern High.  Duncan was on this morning doing his usual "appease the people" routine.  I couldn't help but think he was warning us when he said that there are always negatives when something like this happens.

In my opinion, this type of situation is the ONLY time when the school within a school concept is needed.

It's gonna be a mess...textbooks, computers and all the supplies...A daunting task ahead indeed.

Steve, did you try going to the WowBB forum for help on this?  I clicked on the link at the bottom of this page and then clicked on community. There's tons of info there but I couldn't understand most of it.  Maybe you could just ask them what options you have after you've downloaded that file. They talked a lot about gzip files or something like that, but I never saw how to open them.... then again, I wasn't looking for that.

I saw somewhere on those boards that you moderators should be backing up your database (at least) daily.  That will save the info on the participants.  Backing up the forum is evidently different. Seems several of the WowBB participants have lost their entire forums due to various problems and they didn't have them backed up.

BlueDev probably knows all that already though.....
