As you are no doubt aware, the Stokesdale Town Council is composed of 5 town council members. In reviewing my earlier remarks, I do not see, nor do I believe that others would see, that I have singled out any one member with regard to my comments. I honestly believe that my earlier comments were so obviously cast as to paint the whole body politic with the same broad brush description rather than to individualize my comments (which I would not do, by the way).

I have broken down my earlier comments into three broad premises as outlined above. From my past and ongoing and sometimes quite intense personal discussions with a broad range and large number of Stokesdale residents and citizens, I believe as well that my comments are fairly reflective of a generalized shared community perception or feeling.

If you take exception to any one or more of the premises I have outlined above, please let me know, point out your objection or disagreement specifically with which premise or premises, and I will be glad to provide additional comments and evidence in support of that premise.

As only one example which I think provides a foundation for at least two of the premises above, if you would seek to measure community feelings over here about whether this town council moves in lock step with the real estate developers or listens to the common folk, then go poll the residents and neighbors up on Haw River Road. Ask them what they think of and how their views were ignored by this town council when the 'Shields property' was rezoned.

The 'Shields rezoning' is only one of many rezoning cases which instantly come to mind which clearly show a lopsided pattern which is disturbing to many and insensitive to and inconsistent with good planning techniques and procedures, the Stokesdale Land Use Plan, and the Town Of Stokesdale Mission Statement.

Obviously, my comments reflect my own personal opinion. And as we all know, opinions are like noses, everyone has one. So I take no offense if your opinion or the opinions of others differs with my own. Those differences are what make life so interesting and make it so grand.

As for attitude, I'm like the old umpire, I just calls 'em as I sees 'em!

Pappy, 'course I wouldn't shoot at you. (Maybe with a little luck, those gangs that can't shoot straight won't shoot at either one of us).

Pappy, I'm in such a good mood this fine morning, if I knew where you was Pappy, why heck I'd bring the bacon and biscuits and coffee to you! And might even bring a little scratch for that wise ol' chicken of yours. Haven't heard much from him lately neither.

Pappy, it is interesting that you mention those trees this morning. Yes, the rain will do 'em lots of good and will make it easier for us in the next few weeks as we start to plant a few more, especially some Christmas type trees.

I received a phone call last night inquiring if two young rascals (teenagers) who had gotten into a little trouble with the law, could work off part of their judicial sentence, which requires 5 hours of community service with a non-profit agency. Now unfortunately, they had waited until the last possible moments to do this service and needing to complete the 5 hours of work this weekend.

So, after talking with a couple of the other tree planters, we have agreed they can get out there starting this morning and pick up trash in and along the arboretum and since that alone won't take the entire 5 hours, we are thinking perhaps we can find 5 hours worth of trash pickup along the highways here in Stokesdale today. Unfortunately, that means that a couple of us will have to go out there and supervise. So if you ride through town, don't be surprised if you see a couple of us riding herd not over the trees but over the 'chain gang'.

And here I was thinking I had the day off.

Well, dang, Mr Jim. I hate you hafta ride herd on yer day off. I like seein' that kind o' sentence imposed though. If I ever get caught, I'd rather be out pickin' up trash than sittin' in lockup.

Pappy, you know I agree 100%.

Hopefully the experience of having to pick up trash for 5 hours on a cold wet miserable day might all the more serve as a reminder in the future for 'em to listen to their Mammys and Daddys and stay outta trouble.

Now Pappy imagine if they had ever caught you or I for doing all the things we shouldn't have, we would still be in the pokey and they woulda thrown away the keys.

Hee hee! I'd steal a spoon, dig a tunnel, move to Summerfield an' conceal my identity.

Wait, did I say that out loud?

***We interrupt this post fer a mpo'tant public service announcement***

If bacon biscuits is unavailable, ham biscuits may be used as a emergency substitute.

Macca, I plead for the fifth.

Or maybe I should just plead insanity as I was crazy about some of the things I did in my youth. Ah youth to be wasted on the young......
