Crackah, I tried to tell 'em, but no, they just wouldn't listen. See there Lacka, I was telling the truth about the broomsticks and witches and things that go bump in the night.

Quoted from the SFTC forum....

Macca... it is soooo INteresting that you mentioned the Wizard of Oz. Triscuit and I were studying that work of literature last night!
Lots of folks aren't aware that the Wizard of Oz was indeed written as a Political allegory, a parable if you will, rich in historical significance. It was written to tell the story of Populism and the issues based on the Populist movement around the turn of the century.
Dorothy represented everyman
The Lion was William Jennings Bryan (The populist presidential candidate with a big roar but nothing else)
The Scarecrow was the midwestern farmer who had had the stuffing knocked out of him
The Tinman represented the factory worker who had no heart because he was being replaced by machinery
Munchkins were the little people
The Emerald City represented Washington
The Wizard represented the President - a smokescreen for the folks behind the scenes pulling the strings - Powerful only if he can manipulate and fool the people.
The Yellow brick road (gold bricks) ultimately led to nowhere
OZ - abbreviation for ounce... standard measurement of gold. (had to to do with the populist desire to set the gold standard)
The flying monkeys was a racial reference to the chinese railroad workers
The Good Witch represented the Northern electorate (which Bryan needed in order to be elected)
The wicked witch represented big corporations in general
Toto was most likely a dog. Some say he represented the teatotalers and some say he represented the small bit of happiness in Dorothy's life (saved her from going as "gray" as her surroundings)
and you'll like this one Macca....
I think Pappy needs to write us a Political Allegory.... He can decide who the witches will represent.... Last edited on Oct 5th, 2006 12:37 pm by Cracker Jax

Thank you, Jim! (I don't think I'm going up on any more roofs, though!) ♥♥♥
Thanks, Crackah, too for the info on "Wizard of Oz!" Too cool! (I have to admit that I knew Kansas was the "Heartland," since that's where I'm from! ♥♥♥

Howdy, Crackah. Pappy's been ponderin' an' wanderin' today, both activities followin' a roughly circular pattern, an' both ultimately transportin' me to the same destination--exactly whar I started. Hee hee!
