OK, in response to the OVERWHELMING interest in the British study on humor ("Oh, please tell us more, Macca!!") I have more info to share.... ♥♥♥
- Canadians are a really, really tough crowd. Germans are the life of the party, ready to crack a smile at practically every joke thrown their way.
- Your funny bone is not located in your elbow, but in a part of the brain known as the medial ventral prefrontal cortex.
- Smart people are more likely to get complicated jokes. Says Homer Simpson, doh!
- Men and women really do laugh at different things. Mother-in-law jokes aren't quite so hilarious when there's a chance you'll become one.
- Laughing increases your blood pressure and heart rate, changes breathing rhythm, boosts the immune system and lowers the level of certain neurochemicals in the brain.
- Those annoying sitcom laugh tracks actually work, prodding audiences to see the joke whether they find it funny or not.

Poker-faced Canadians ranked dead last in the humour sweepstakes, although they did show a preference for gags with a strong superiority quotient. Of the roughly 40,000 jokes that circulated during the three-month study, Canadians liked this one best:
When NASA first started sending up astronauts, they quickly discovered that ballpoint pens would not work in zero gravity. To combat the problem, NASA scientists spent a decade and $12 billion to develop a pen that writes in zero gravity, upside-down, underwater, on almost any surface including glass and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to 300 C.
Care to know what the punch line is? Why the Canadians think it is so funny???? ♥♥♥

Word for the day:
Gelotology -- the mystery of what makes us laugh, why we need to and how it is that some of us just don't get it. ♥♥♥

Another word for the day: Amygdala -- the brain's reward center! ♥♥♥
A few years ago, researchers in Toronto and London discovered we use different areas of the brain to process jokes. Puns run through brain circuits near speech zones; routines that rely on abstract ideas are sifted through a bilateral network in the temporal lobes. The payoff -- that little burst of joy after we've decoded the Far Side cartoon, or grasped what Poppy's been doing to Seinfeld's couch -- happens in the amygdala.

Hey macca... if you're still up, go look at that unsightly fish pic I posted on the SF TC forum. Do you think I'll get in trouble for that??? Maybe it might shock a 9 year old. It is nature though.....

ok... if I get in trouble, I'm telling them that you said it was ok.... Strength in numbers and all that.
I'm not posting it over here. If they want to see it they'll have to go to the SF TC forum (cross the fine line) and read WHY I posted it!
