OH!! and Kris... saw some drummers at the NWHS BBall game tonight... They were GREAT!!! Next time they do a drum show, I think I'll go... Do they only do that once a year???
Cracker, I'm sorry I forgot to answer this earlier. I got way too involved with research and forgot
I'm thinking it was probably the Grimsley drumline that you saw last night (isn't that who NW played?). They are really good - for some reason the drumline at Grimsley is a bigger deal than the rest of the band! The Grimsley band travels to away games (NW Band sometimes goes to one away football game) and I think the drumline plays at home basketball games (They may also have a pep band with other instruments)
The difference is because Grimsley is not a "competition" band. Northwest has been a competing band since the 1970's when Tommy Smith began as Band Director. So with marching competitons nearly every Saturday in the fall, the band isn't able to also do away football games. To my knowledge, except for a short while in the early 1970s, Northwest has not had a pep band for basketball games. I think it probably has a lot to do with what the "tradition" has been. I think it would be cool to have a pep band though.

Hmmmm ... McMichael HS... isn't that near the new SUPER WALMART??????? Might have to check that out... Need a double reason to ride all that way... OF course I could just check out Mike's restaurant up in Mayodan after listening to the drummers....
Did you see the movie Drumline? (Bullwinkle topic oops) My kids loved it....
As far as the kids who played drums last night, I knew none of them and they weren't dressed out in school colors, but somebody pointed out the pastor of Center UMC's son - last name Ireson I think.
There were only 6 boys playing, and they sat at the opposite end of the bleachers away from the Grimsley crowd, so I just assumed they were NW. Maybe they just went to the game and decided to add some pep?? Either way, it was enjoyable.
oh.. and LOVE The new avatar. Will miss the panther though.

Yes, sounds like that was our guys!! Chris Ireson is on the drumline. That is good to hear! They probably had a rehearsal and decided to stay for the game. Read in the paper that the boys won but the girls lost I'm not too big on basketball but I try to keep up with how they are doing.

Too much computer time for me today I'm going to get out from behind it and out of the house for a while. Out to eat some italian food!
So ya'll talk about ITALIAN FOOD while I'm gone and leave me some interesting stuff to think about, OK?!

I like to "lurk," as you call it and caught the comments about the drumline at the game. Mentioned it to my oldest today when he said he went to the game last night, and he said it was our drumline .... which I see that you had already figured out!
His girlfriend plays drums with the Jamestown Pipe Band (who used to be the Grandfather Mountain Bagpipers). We went to their benefit concert in December at Providence Place in High Point.... REALLY enjoyed it, more than we expected to. More variety of music than we expected -- even some rock!
(Glad this is "Much Ado...."! Otherwise I might get an "Off Topic!")
