Yard Art
When is enough enough? I believe that Starcatcherrequested this info. Well here it is.
I ran out to do a little bit of research on yard art around town.
I found bunnies
a family of pigs
Frogs they were not related to Monty. They were sitting in chairs looked like they were about to enjoy a mint julep.
There was a lighthouse, and several windmills. I even saw a plastic swan. Looked like to me that someone had some flowers delivered by someone pretty special and could not stand the thought of not keeping the swan, after the flowers died, so they put it in the yard for all of us to enjoy. Thank you.
There were quite a few statues, some of which were very nice. I found a VW family, appeared that even the cousins came to visit. This was very colorful and was actually a nice surprise while out scouting.
I found a dryer. It wasn't a set or anything; I didn't see the washer, just the dryer.
My favorite piece was a motorcycle that was made of tin. Like a little wind chime hanging from the tree. A+ on this one honey. I am not a huge motorcycle fan, but this was very tasteful. It is up on 150 between the
smelly store and Church St
Right about the time I saw the motorcycle in the yard, I rounded the curve and there they were. The swarm of bicycles. Not bikers, but bike riders, trying to run me off the dang road. They did, I had to cross the yellow line to avoid having a perfect little butt print on my windshield. Can't you just see that now? I just have no desire to get into my car and see a butt print starring back at me. You know you would get in the car and chuckle. Now I know that it had nothing to do with me talking on the phone, trying to make notes about the yard art I was finding, changing a CD while driving. You know I will admit it if it is my fault. This time it was not.
Back to what else I found. There were a lot of flags. We are a very patriotic little town. People are getting ready for ChristmasOh my and then I found a dumpster in someone's yard. Birdbaths and birdhouses seem to be very popular as well.
There were quite a few gazing balls. I think they are very pretty. When you gaze into those don't you kinda feel like you ARE Alice in Wonderland, or is it just me?
One of my favorite things was a little plastic bird on a metal stick. It had wings that would spin around when the wind would blow. Even though it was plastic I found it rather charming.
You will not believe this. You know we all have those things in the yard that look like a big plastic rock, or a round cement flower pot turned upside down. I think they cover something having to do with the well. A house that I passed while researching for
Starcatcher had two of these. Remember when I said before that you can cover anything? Well, law me (borrowed from Crackah) you don’t have to be able to knit.
They had these covered, right up on top of these they had ceramic men fishing. Now I don't know if they were fishing because they were sitting over the well, or if they were just fishing in the grass, but they sure seemed to be having quite the jolly time.
I saw a little cement boy peeing.
Now I tried to be nice and not talk about anything specific, like a boat trailer in the front yard, with no boat, you know who you are. I can’t risk offending anyone, so I tried to just give the basics.
I felt really bad, Skiddles after that knitting thing and learning that it could be genetic mutation and all. I know that there are a few closet cover lovers in this group. So I will just give a few tips to keep in mind while decorating your own yard.
Do group like items in an odd number together to make a nice statement. If you had a family of ducks they would look best grouped together. Three to five pieces generally look the most tasteful.
Appliances, old cars, and burning barrels work better in the back yard. The larger items detract from the composition that you are trying to work with as people pass by or drive up.
Think twice about your color choice when deciding to paint your tractor tires planters. I hear these are becoming very popular in the SF area.
A plow formed into a mailbox with various tractor attachments strategically placed in the front yard, really can help reflect ones personality. These pieces are usually so large that it is not necessary to group them by odd numbers. As a general rule you can just leave them wherever the tractor broke down and they will look fine.
In the case of yard art size does matter.
Think tasteful. It might be better to go with a theme, all ducks, a punch buggy theme, lighthouses, a nice selection of birdhouses for a more eye-catching impact.
I wasn't going to tell this but when I arrived back home after doing my research, I pulled up into the driveway, realized that I have not only an old truck that half runs sitting in my yard, this isn’t the choker, but another vehicle. It doesn’t stand alone, it has a trailer attached, and there is stuff on the trailer. On the carport there is a banquet table that I haven't put away since Halloween. On top of the table is an air conditioner, yes, a window unit. I could go on and on, but I think I might want to just take myself outside and do a little cleaning myself.
What is the most interesting yard art that you have seen?. What do you have in your yard?
