Speaking of politics, the following was printed in this morning's Raleigh News and Observer and I think it is applicable for our own political considerations of candidates for elected office:

"I could have been a great politician if only I had started right," Herbert Hyde once remarked. "Unfortunately, my mother taught me to tell the truth."

Despite such limitations, Hyde, who died last week at age 80 of leukemia, turned out to be a pretty fair politician. He served off and on in the legislature in the 1960s, 1970s and 1990s, was chairman of the state Democratic Party and state secretary of crime control and public safety.

Speakin' o' border security, I don't know if a big expensive fence is the best way to go about it. Look at the Maginot Line an' the Great Wall o' Chiney. Both expensive an' neither much good when it really counted. I think we need a smarter approach.

Pappy's cat has got her own version of a candidates forum goin' on. She's loungin' in front o' the winder a-studyin' the birds at the feeder. Hee hee!

Them birds talk too fast fer me, but near as I can tell, the mockin'bird's accusin' the cardinal o' bein' appointed state bird on looks rather than merit. The goldfinches think the chickadees are eat an' run liberals. The sparrows worry about the seed supply an' think we should plan for alternative seed sources.

The cat favors that chubby-lookin' bird so far, but she wonders if there's any real meat on them bones or if he's just got his feathers all puffed up.

I've been following the whole awful mess that is the McCartney divorce.... Ran across this sad commentary today. Pretty pessimistic view, but you know what they say about pessimism. (Although, like my namesake, I tend to look on the bright side....) ♥♥♥

"Mostly, the whole McCartney affair is sad: Either he’s far more tormented than any of us knew or he’s final proof that no matter how much you try to rise above the muck, it’ll eventually drag you down."

Geez Macca, I didn't realize you were so close to the McCartneys.   I found below posting regarding their breakup.   Apparently Paul's nickname is Macca??

http://news.independent.co.uk/uk/legal/article1919116.ece

Daily Mail

Heather: Macca 'beat me up'

"Explosive court papers lodged by her lawyers in their £1bn divorce battle portray him as a vindictive man who once tried to choke her and even attacked her while she was pregnant."

Guess it goes to show......money can't buy happiness.

The wedding was absolutely beautiful.

Full mass in a very old Catholic church, very pristine clean.

Reception was equally beautiful.  Timing runs quite a bit later in Mexico than the USA.  The reception started at 10 pm, dancing 10 - 12 (dance floor completely full), dinner at midnight - 1am, then dancing from 1 am til ???.    This gringo pooped out about 1:00 am, since it was 2am EST.

Unlike USA weddings where many of the tables would have been empty with no-shows, every table was completely full, all were having a good time.   Children were dressed to the hilt, all the little girls hair fixed up, beautiful dresses.   Mexicans never miss a chance to party.  And they can light up a dance floor.

You've heard me comment before that Mexico doesn't have much of a middle class, this couple was from what I will call the "upper lower class", however, it was obvious the families ensured they got a good send off.

They didn't bother with the open bar, just left a bottle of Scotch Whiskey on each table, and help yourself..........I did !!   So this am, I have this strange headache.

Alejandra (Aley for short) works in my organization, she is obviously an intelligent girl, although didn't have the resouces to attend college.  She is very analytical, and has acquired great computer skills in the space of one year.  Very committed employee.  She was a beautiful bride.

Interestingly, I was the only American at the wedding, and there were only a handful from work that were invited, so I'm very glad I stayed down here for it.
