I remember Lonnies, and the smell of car grease or something.  Well it smelled better than Belco.  They also had the red and white candy mints that you can buy now individually wrapped.  They were loose in the big glass jar that sat to the right of the counter, near those old oatmeal cookies. They had pickled everything, Never did I see anyone eat a pigs  foot, but they sure did have them on the counter.

If Lonnie wasn't lookin' Becky would give you one piece of candy for now, and a few for the pocket to have later.  I remember one time seeing Lonnie pull out a wad of money bigger than I had ever seen, he joked that he kept all of his money under the matress, I bet he did.  I remember Becky wearing those cotton house dresses.  I guess she had to with no a/c and all.  Those were the days.

hahah thank you guys for interrupting the uncomfortable silence here.

I like the smell of Bi-rite. It just smells like what you would expect an old grocery store to smell like. reminds me of when I was young in a small town alabama piggly wiggly.

No prob bama... we know how tumbleweeds bother you...

Piggly Wiggly... LOL....Used to go in there at Myrtle Beach all the time.

That's some sense of humor to name a store the Piggly Wiggly.

Will have to get Kris to research that name for us...

Howdy, y'all. Enjoyed the nostalgia flashback. Pappy grew up (and I use the term loosely) elsewhere, so I don't remember Lonnie's. But we had a little grocery store we'd go to. I can remember them little coke bottles in the metal carryin' cases and how much better they tasted back then. You weren't overwhelmed with choices but you had everything you needed. Granny would bring her prized insulated bag to carry the ice cream home in.

They're gettin' ready to work on the cable here, so I reckon Pappy'll be 10-7 for a bit.

There is a Mr. Pig's house (Clarence Saunders) in Memphis Tenn., I know I've been there. It's called the Pink Palace Mansion, it's a terrific museum. Made out of BEAUTIFUL pink marble. He had an extensive amount of museum stuff, everything from shrunken heads to beauty parlor product from the 20's. Neat place!!

Now, Cracker Jax.... (notice I used your full name -- BTW: what is your middle name so I can include it next time?) -- I guess we need to have two talks here (maybe 3) -- Peer Pressure: If Bama jumped off the roof, would you do it too? Blaming Others: (see previous example) Doing the Right Thing: What kind of example are you setting for the rest of our playmates???? (PS - I think you're right! Himer is a BAD influence....but himer is a lot of fun!):dude:

Of course, you need to disregard my admission that I tried to join in the fun....

Also, Bama thinks everyone is after himer..... the library locks HIMER out.... shem's fear (I guess in the Smurof desolc) that everyone had gone away and no one told himer.... so I guess I should consider myself lucky that it's just disappearing threads for me....♥♥♥

BUBBA! We'd have to quit posting here and possibly do some SERIOUS posts elsewhere to give others a chance to catch up!!! We can't do that.... I mean, occasionally we contribute something worthwhile elsewhere, but we know we can always come back here to play! We can't give that up!! ♥♥♥
