Saw this on TV this a.m. and had to post it! I bet we can all come up with some good sentences with this one! Comedy Central thought they had invented it, but some linguistics expert says it is actually an old word.

Regardless, here it is! OUR WORD FOR THE DAY (which was named "Word of the Year" for 2005 -- I tell you, they've been monitoring "MAAN") IS (from CNN.com) -- TA-DA!!

'Truthiness'
A panel of linguists has decided the word that best reflects 2005 is "truthiness," defined as the quality of stating concepts one wishes or believes to be true, rather than the facts.

Summerfield History 101 Back to Lonnie's...It was just about where the Vet on 220 is now.  A small service station/general store/gathering place.  No hamburgers and no beer that I can recall.  Lots of tobacco, though - the smoking and chewing and dipping kind.  Dippin' ...even Pappy might not know about that! The owners were friends to everyone and sometimes lived in the room upstairs.  Very colorful couple.  The wife more often than not wore pink curlers in her hair.  (oh, the things we remember,,,) They would run a tab for good customers and you could just go by every week or two and pay up.  They had everything in there from bottled coca colas to diapers, to auto parts.  Actually was the  NAPA of Summerfield.   Sighhhh good old days of worn wood floors, cluttered shelves, no a/c, and friendly faces.  Of course, I was a young pup then.  I, too would like to see a picture and might just know where to find one.  Thanks for the reminder.

Starcatchr- I had  Lonnie mixed up with Long's across the street. How could I forget Lonnie Simpson. He always could find what ever you needed.  Wasn't he on the corner of Strawberry next to the motel?

Macca, truthiness - I caught that on TV this morning too! Interesting.....did this come from the truth-stretching in the book A Million Little Pieces?

I've heard Tom Cruise's little Oprah escapade also invented a new phrase - "Jumping the Couch"

maybe Cracker will use these 2 in a sentence for us ;)

THANKS Starcatchr!!!

Yep Ms. Becky and her pink curlers!  I forgot about that!  I remember you couldn't see behind the counter for the jars of pickled things and the big old jar of break your teeth oatmeal cookies!  Yum!

I think the official name was Simpson's Auto Parts... it was on the other side of the motel from Pore Boy's.

BTW Macca....LOVE THE WORD OF THE DAY!!!  What a hoot!

Crackah's example sentance:

The truthiness of the interminable statements purported by the concerned citizens of Summerfield have bloggers jumping the couch to reach their computers and the NWO forums.

Don't know about the Tom Cruise episode, but I am assuming he literally jumped the couch or something.....

I need to find a blog like this in New Orleans... That mayor is a NUT....Is he taking advantage of his 15 minutes of fame or what??

 They need me down there.

Lonnies.....<Sigh> Those were the good old days....

It's possible that Truthiness was somehwat invented/popularized- something by an NC State professor. I will look this one up.

OK I was a bit off. haha go figure huh. Actually the guy from Comedy Central, Colbert, claimed to have invented the word and a visiting prof. from NC State served as an expert for the AP and said that the word was already in the Oxford English Dictionary. The prof. and Colbert are to this day still in a fairly publicized debate (ridiculous even by comedy central standards if you ask me) over the "ownership" of the word.

Tom Cruise professed his love for Katie Holmes by jumping up and down on Oprah's couch ON NATIONAL TV - he looked like a 2 year old.

JUMP THE COUCH - from http://www.urbandictionary.com

A defining moment when you know someone has gone off the deep end. Inspired by Tom Cruise's recent behavior on Oprah. Also see jump the shark

Seems like this could be applied quite well in the discussion of Summerfield politics ;)

Good one Bama :P

Ya'll have a good day - I'll catch ya later, gonna get in Cracker's hammock for a while :)

Wow I think this is a new record for people not posting all day. Is there some conspiracy I do not know about. Well if there is, I just ruined the not-posting thing. Sorry I got bored. Like I have said before, sometimes I am a bit uninformed.

This was touched on elsewhere, but did you guys hear what the nagin was saying down in New Orleans yesterday. hahah what a joker.
