Everyone agrees that Mr. Holub has done a teriffic job in overseeing the park construction. He has donated countless hours of his time to the project and is obviously dedicated to its success. Wouldn't it be to our benefit to offer him the position of park manager once it's completed? Hmmmm, George are you interested?

Sandra Smith made the suggestion that yet another facet of the park become an educational opportunity. A fine example of this is the Asheboro Zoo. They feature plants native to each continent,of course, but I believe that in the "free space" the plants are native to North Carolina. Many of these plants are labeled, but it's also interesting to dicover and identify plants that may grow in our own back yard. What a great opportunity to teach our children to see and appreciate the world around them!

What a great idea Starcatchr!!! I wonder if he'd be interested? That's going to be a challenge... getting a staff member hired to change our TP rolls. (kidding George)
Does George work or is he retired??
Wouldn't that be grand? Having someone available to keep an eye on things, not only to protect our investment, but to take groups on tours and such, which will also help to keep the environment safe for all to use?
We already know he's devoted heart and soul to the project so let's start a HIRE GEORGE campaign!!

The State Zoo uses lots of volunteers to do their teaching. At one time there was talk of naming the trees. The Park Lady may know whether that is still in the plans.
When the Conservation Council was up and running (We are trying to reform if anybody is interested) we had put in the budget a person who would help identify critical open space and then the plan was to come up with a program for the town to protect the open space. Chapel Hill has a really great program where they investigate and then the town buys up designated open space for different purposes. In Summerfields case we need ballfields so in Chapel Hill they would identify where they want the ballfields and then purchase the land from the landowner. If you hired a person to identify the land then they should also be knowledgeable about what was there and could educate.

IT IS WITHOUT QUESTION, OAK RIDGE IS PULLING AWAY FROM SUMMERFIELD IN THEIR ACCOMPLISHMENT. THEY NOW HAVE A WONDERFUL SHOPPING CENTER, A PARK ON THE WAY AND MANY OTHER THINGS THAT SUMMERFIELD HAS YET TO PULL TOGETHER.
IF THE ELECTED "TOWN OFFICIALS" WOULD LOOK TO THE FUTURE THEN BICKER ABOUT THINGS THAT MEAN LITTLE, WE TOO COULD MOVE INTO THIS CENTURY. IF WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A TOWN WE CAN BE PROUD OF, ITS TIME TO REALIZE THAT TAXES PAY FOR OUR TOWNS IMPROVEMENTS AND GROWTH. I PAY TAXES AS DO ANYONE IN A PROPERTY OWNERSHIP POSITION.
LETS GROW UP AND MAKE SUMMERFIELD A PLACE WE CAN BE PROUD OF CALLING HOME.
GO SKIDDLE'S, FAT PAPPY, JANE AND THE REST THAT ARE FOR LOOKING TO THE FUTURE AND LOOKING OUT FOR THE CITIZENS OF OUR COMMUNITY.

Their are people in our Town that want to stop everything and keep things just like they are now. Well we know that is not possible, as long as we have children it will continue to grow. Don't be blind to growth just because you don't like it. Its up to our Town Council to plan our future to be ready for it. Planning and making the plan work will take tax dollars. Its called smart growth. I am willing to pay my part with money and time because this is my home.....

I have to share this conversation I had with everyone. One day I was having a conversation with one of our new council members. I asked this person, "How do you see our town growing?" He/She said nothing and looked at me kind'a puzzled. I think shem really didn't know where i was going with my question or how to answer me. Then I followed up by asking my question in another way, "How do you see our town in 10 or 15 years from now? What will it look like?" Then the answer came... now hold on, it was a doozy, stay with me....... the answer was, "I don't know, I'm not there yet." Tada!! And that folks was my conversation with our new council member.

Wow Skiddles. Thanks for sharing that one. How enlightening!
Not surprising perhaps, but enlightening indeed!

Philosopher Chris Phillips speaks to this...
"When Athens ceased to be creative and experimental (it didn't just rest on its laurels; it discarded them), when it closed in on itself and no longer cared to grow and change, it attained a static type of stability. Athens, in the end, became a society at rest, a society extinguished."
Even the world's greatest societies fall when their citizens and leaders reject change. Change is inevitable. It is only how we choose to deal with change that is debatable. We can choose to ignore it and let chance decide our fate, or we can choose to embrace it and create our future.

But you know acook, if we don't learn from the history we are in danger of repeating the errors. Hope you got some sleep.
