OK, problem solved.
GG came out, did the pressure test. No leaks (good news).
However, I just learned the hard way that when a ventless gas log comes in contact with flame, it soots up and produces a................gas smell.
So far, nobody is fessing up to moving the logs (wasn't me this time), however, it just cost me $75.00 for GG to spend 30 seconds re-arranging the logs. Actually took the guy longer to write the bill out than to fix the problem.
You see, when GG determines it's not a problem in their system, and they take one step out of their "domain", you get charged $75.00/hr.
Cheaper than a house fire, I guess. Check your logs folks.

Just thought I would let you know how much I admire you. It's not many spouses that would follow through on a problem they are not sure exists
pulling out the refrigerator, the dryer, checking fr mice, and calling GG not once but twice
