Just to let ya'll know, WGHP Channel 8 Fox News just left from photographing the Christmas lights display in my yard and doing a story on Holiday decorating and plans on running a story tonight on their 10 PM News.

I don't know if you guys have seen this or not, but it's kind of interesting. A guy in Winston-Salem hooked up a ton of lights to his house. You can to go his website and turn the lights off and on via computer.

Go to http://www.controltheshow.com.

(He says his neighbors love it, but I'm glad I don't live beside him!)

As an update to my earlier post last evening about WGHP Channel 8, they did not run the story last night about the lights in my yard, but after chatting with them this afternoon, they have advised me they will be running the segment on their Channel 8 Fox 10 O' Clock News.

I have also told Channel 8 about how beautiful the Forestry Systems house in Summerfield is decorated and they told me they would visit, film and broadcast a segment about that property along Highway 150 in downtown Summerfield too!

Thank goodness your news story was delayed for a day Jim!  I didn't get to watch last night so I'll go ahead and set the DVR now so I won't miss it tonight!  Congrats!

Sandra, I heard about the "control the show" website last year, and the site was only open from like 5 to midnight.

The server was always so busy, I never got a turn to try.  I'll be sure to check it out this year.

JIM!!!!!!  That was a WONDERFUL story!  I watched it online and then again on TV.  Those big Fox 8 dummies chopped it off at the end and left out the best part of the interview where you talked about those lights being your gift to the community and how you love the smell of Christmas trees!  I hate when they edit stories like that, but I'm glad you posted the link so we could see the whole story!

Congrats again!  So proud of you!!

BTW... Loved your dogs!!!

Crackah, I don't know who was the bigger 'ham' in this story: the dogs or me?

Here's another lighting display you guys might want to check out.

• 7926 Eversfield Road, Stokesdale. Obie and Lisa Harris say they spend about two weeks setting up all their lights on their property at the corner of Eversfield and Ellison roads.

I have spent several evenings driving around in the Summerfield, Oak Ridge and Stokesdale areas and here are the best ones I have seen so far:

5719 Bunch Road, Oak Ridge (Craig Westergaard) Loads of Lights

7576 Haw Meadows Drive, Stokesdale (Arbor Run SD) Blow Mold Heaven with hundreds of lighted candy canes and quite a collection of lighted blow molds.

8133 Spotswood Drive (Off Highway 220 North) Summerfield as well as homes on each side of this address. Light city with lots of interesting decorations including animated ornaments.

7807 Charles Place Drive, Stokesdale next to Arbor Run

7403 Somersby Drive, Summerfield off Highway 150 on the left past Food Lion headed east. This is perhaps the most elegantly decorated home in the Northwest with very nice, neat use of only two colors (red and white) to give it a decorator look. Very nice!

4105 Oak Ridge Road, Summerfield (Forestry Systems House) The standard by which Christmas decorating should be measured. A Must See!

And I hear there is a rather large 'tacky' display of lights somewhere along Highway 68 North between Stokesdale and Oak Ridge, which is yet to be confirmed. (7743 NC Highway 68 North)

I will add others as I continue my explorations around the Northwest.

There are several homes on McCrory Road (the one that goes by the Stokesdale ballpark) that always have nice displays, especially in the area near the park.

There is also a small house on Ellisboro Road, behind the Stokesdale Post Office, that is always lit with lots of white lights. It is clearly visible from Hwy 158.

Some of the houses along Stokesdale Street are also pretty. (also visible from 158)

The Stokesdale Fire Station has also been decorated this year, with lights along the roofline. I understand that a couple of the younger firefighters decided to do this for the community!

I drove over to Caswell County last night to see the 1.5 million lights on display at the home of Bill & Gloria Pascal on Ashland Road in the Casville community. The lights were unbelievable but the crowds staggered the imagination. There easily were 500 people walking through this property and perhaps as many as 1,000. The Pascals have several log cabins which are decorated and open to the public and an outdoor train set which is immense. It is well worth the short drive over to see this, and by driving over via 150, it is not all that long of a drive from the Northwest.

I drove over to Casville via Highway 158 and have never seen so many homes along Highway 158 so decorated and well decorated. In coming back via Highway 150, from Browns Summit to Summerfield was simply one beautiful light display after another.

I then visited several subdivisions in the Summerfield area and must mention that the entire Hillsdale Lakes is worth seeing as the light reflections across the lake are unequalled in the Northwest area. Well worth seeing.

In general, I have just never seen so many homes in almost every direction one turns which are decorated, and it is becoming increasingly difficult if not impossible to weed out the best, as they are all decorated so nicely. Whether a family has one candle in a window or two or three sets of lighted candles in their windows or a yardful of lights and figurines, for each family, these decorations represent their individual joy and love at this wonderful time of year and their hopes for brighter days and events in the new year to come. And this year in particular, more people just seem so much more inclined to surround themselves with the symbols of the Nativity and our holiday heritage than ever before.
