So that the ever popular road rage thread can remain at the top of the NW Greensboro section, I have created this topic here so that the two will not have to compete. After Christmas, we will all ignore the "lights" thread and will only care about this one in this section.

Post your rants or raves for area restaurants, or even request ideas about Prom night dining, good frog legs, creme brulee, or just plain old green beans.

Bon Appétit

To begin, I would like to know where to get some good cajun food. I am talking about authentic Gumbo, or boiled crawfish, or even a low country boil. I knwo we used to have Cajun Lady but it is gone. Anyone know of any other places that might suit? Thanks.

GREAT IDEA FOR A TOPIC BAMA!

I'll keep my eyes (and my tummy) peeled for some good eatin' spots.... Going to ask around about the Cajun food.

How VERY clever of you to post this topic in a different Section so we can now be Top 3! Clever, Clever, Clever I tell ya!

I am supposing that since you allowed Steve to do it, it will be ok for me to post over here in COLOR! Poor little Monty...

BAMA!

If you come up with some neat topics for the Oak Ridge and Stokesdale sites (it's pretty quiet over there right now too), we could control them all!!!!!

LOL Steve!

Yea, Bama.... I think for Oak Ridge, we need to call our topic "THE BREAKFAST CLUB" since so many of those Ridgers are enraged about Wendy's not serving breakfast....

Yeah, That is a good place! Just limited as to when it's open. We took some relatives there when they visited last spring. It's a neat place to take folks from out of state, family-style service, all you can eat, can sit and talk at a decent size table. Family atmosphere.

They have a separate building for music. I think they do shows on Saturday nights.

I think they are still open. A few weeks ago, some signs popped up for it somewhere. They were temporary so now I cant remember where they were.

Oh for Oak Ridge, I think we can start a cheese and wine thread for them.

Well in Stokesdale we would simply refer to the Oak Ridge hoity toity as high falutin' whereas in Summerfield they would no doubt refer to them as The Bourgeoisie.

My question is to simply help the restaurant waiters and waitresses in Summerfield and Stokesdale:

When serving the hoity toity from Oak Ridge do you serve them brie with their whine?

LOL Rev!   I must however, take issue with that statement.  I am from Summerfield and I can't prounounce Bourgeoisie, let alone spell it (didn't even try... just copied your spelling).... Even if I try using the "muffy and buffy" accent!

In keeping with the spirit of Christmas,  I'm thinking that perhaps we ought to be nicer to our neighbors up on "The Ridge." One of 'em might just happen in here after they wake up from their hibernation

and they'd think we were ganging up on them or something! They haven't really done anything other than not chat with us right?? I take full responsibility for starting the "uppity talk" and I apologize.

Come on in when you wake up you Ridgers!  I'll ask everyone to be nice! We were just poutin' a little bit cause we are feeling ignored!

Fine we will be nice. Just try not to fit into too many of our stereotypes and you will be ok. Maybe.

P.S. had some decent Gumbo at Ruth's Chris

Why rumor has it that some of them folk over in Oak Ridge done gone so uppity that they eat them little bitty snails in some kinda wine sauce with garlicky butter.  Why we plume have 'em all over our door steps in the summer and can't get rid of 'em.  Maude wouldn't think of putting them ugly critters in one of her saucing pans.

And if you offer them folk from Summerfield a little shot of your Boone's Farm why they gits downright offended. I s'pose they think we is supposed to give 'em the whole bottle. They sits around sniffing that wine and talking 'bout bouquet and some such instead of just taking a big gulp. Rev, you reminded me of some o' them church homecomin' picnics from my younger days. (Not the Boone's Farm part, the later part.) Waitin' through the sermon for the culinary reward afterwards was like a allegory of endurin' hardship while keepin' our eyes on the prize to come. Haw! Fried chicken, tater salad, home-made macaroni and cheese, pecan pies--all done to heavenly perfection!

Now, if we had a restaurant around here that served food like that, you'd be hard pressed to drag Pappy outta there. I'd need to wear a safety sign while eatin' that said "Keep Your Hands and Feet Clear!"

I like when you go past a church in the (farther) South and see smoke coming up from a smoker in the back. That's Awesome!. Thats how you know some good cooking is going on.

Honestly, I haven't been there since Sept/Oct time frame, so don't know what's there today.  If he's still there, you'll need to slide him a token (ie $10 - 20) for the tricks, you won't be disappointed.

He had me lick an envelope, seal it shut, put on table in front of me.  Had me sign my name to a card (black felt tip pen), put it in his shirt pocket, had a #2 pencil in his hand, tapped the envelope with the eraser end, had me open it, the signed card was in the envelope.  Short of witch craft, I don't know how he did it.

Another (non card) trick, had my wife drop her wedding ring in a small bag & "pull string" it shut.  put it on the table.  He reached in his back pocket, pulled out a ring of keys, her wedding ring was on the key ring.

The guy is a whiz at "hand quicker than they eye"

FYI -- Rick Allred has performed at all three of the Senior Bashes that NWHS has held so far. These are those post-graduation parties they have as a drug/alcohol-free alternative. He doesn't do the music stuff, just magic. I've been to all three and still love to watch him -- and to watch the kids' reactions to him.

Its worth the drive....on Ayersville Rd just past Main St

Beautiful building, artist painted everything inside

I had lunch this week at Laddies & Dukes. It was delicious as always. Service was excellent. I had a reuben sandwich - sandwiches come with a side (several to choose from) - I got their homemade chips with ranch dressing - they are the best I've ever tasted!

It's been a while since I ate dinner there but everything I've ever had for dinner there was good - chicken, beef, pasta.

They do have that Shepherd's Pie thing on the menu - authentic British dish - this is for folks who like to mix their entire meal into their mashed potatoes - yuuuuuuuuuuuck!

Had breakfast at the cafe at Lake Brandt and Hwy 150 a couple of days ago.  Good, plain food.  Homemade soup at lunch is very good. I think they also have a daily special for lunch and in the evening.  Absolutely the cleanest place you can imagine.  Lots of "table talk", too, not only with customers but with owners and staff.

Was at Laddie and Dukes tonight and it was super!  Try the Oriental Chicken Salad with peanut dressing.  It was as good as it looked.  They are always generous with the dressingsand sauces so you might want it on the side. The menu has been upgraded.  Service was great

Ok starcatchr... We are gonna have to make you our official restaurant reviewer!!!

Kris and I ate together at the Olive Garden tonight and at least one of us had a wonderful server named Anna....

Yummy DELICIOUS if you can stand the wait...

Wonder why they don't branch out to say... Brassfield?

If anyone decides to open a Olive Garden Franchise over this way, please double the parking lot. Thank you.

Cracker, my husband says he wants to get the franchise for the northwest side of town. I think we'd be millionaires. I have never been there and not had a wait. That parking lot is a zoo!

Starcatchr - so glad you had a great Laddies & Dukes dinner!

You could just build the wireless system into it -- then advertise as a cyber restaurant -- like a cyber cafe.... Then you'd have even more business, with people logging onto their laptops all during their meal, or while they wait out on the bench in the lobby.

Oh, wait... Then you'd be able to identify each other, because you'd say where you were, what you were doing, who your server was, where you were sitting... You'd look over your shoulder, and there on your neighbor's screen, you'd see what you had just posted!!!

dododoooodo...dododoooodo

And then you'd choke on the breadsticks you'd been chowing down on!

I guess we'd better not incorporate that feature into it after all!! ♥♥♥

After I logged off, I thought of a name... but I dozed off again....

Anyway, (or ANyway, as Bama would say) IF you don't purchase an Olive Garden franchise, but instead decide to go with your own establishment...

You could call it (ta-da!) MUCHADO!(Get it? As in "Much Ado....")

Olive Garden -- Avoided.

Wanted to mention a great restaurant on Market St. It is called Nikita, it is Indian cuisine. If you have never had the pleasure of trying indian, do it. The variety and flavor differences based on northern- or southern-Indian cooking a huge. Afterall you are talking about a country of 1 billion+ people, with a culture that vastly predates europe's. This country is the heart of world's spices.

Nikita serves a lunch and dinner buffet as well as a full menu option. The lunch buffet is $7, it includes several chicken and vegetarian dishes, rice, naan( a type of indian flat bread ), condiments (chutney-relish and raita -a cucumber dressing of sorts, yum), and desserts (usually a sweet rice pudding). The dinner buffett is just $10 a person.

All the food is quite excellent, the owner is friendly and helpful in explaining everything. The atmosphere is very clean, they do catering, parties, etc.

You should check them out. It will expand your food-world.

I realize this isn't EXACTLY a restaurant review, but it IS about food... so I'll go for it... The Maccas are going to pick up some Brunswick stew from Gideon Grove United Methodist Church tomorrow. Saw it in the NWO today ... We like the stuff and these local recipes are usually pretty good.♥♥♥

I have several restaurants that I think are especially good. We eat at Cafe Pasta on Wednesday nights when Buff &T are singing and playing there. They play every other Wednesday night. Buff has just moved to Summerfield. Cafe Pasta has good Italian food. They are on State St. One of the waiters Mark Henry is a NW graduate.

Another place that we just recently found is the Phoenix over next to Butlers where the new Harris Teeter is. Excellent Pad Thai. Everything we have had has been fresh and well seasoned and cooked. It is Japanese Thai cooking mostly.

The third favorite place is on Tate St. Sushi 101. I learned to love Sushi, which by the way does not necessarily contain raw fish, when living in Guam. This place has excellent Sushi. It is a small hole in the wall with lots ot UNCG students there.

Those are my 3 favorites right now unless you are going to Wrightsville Beach at which point my all time favorite restaurant is Portland Grille in the Lumina Shopping Center. The owner/Chef and his wife are former Greensboro Residents. The food is out standing but they are pricey.

Ok now I am hungry.

Carolina Beach!!! Well why didn't you say so???   Did you ever eat at the GulfStream Restaurant???   That was the best little hole in the wall restaurant in all of NC!!!!

It's right across from where you get on that big tour ferry...

I haven't been down there lately... I sure hope it's still there.

I don't think it is still there. Do you mean the ferry that you take to South Port? I don't know of any other Ferry there now. Carolina beach is going the way of all beaches, bigger and bigger, taller and taller. I rather like Carolina before this transformation very unpretentous,

No Down near where that turquoise McDonalds was.... on the Waterway waterfront....  There was this big boat that would take folks on little rides up and down the waterway. We'd watch folks wait for that boat to leave while we were eating breakfast, lunch and dinner at the Gulf Stream.  It was the restaurant where all of the locals hung out.  Not on the usual tour map.... Sort of a "Your House" kinda place.  Look for it if you go back.

(I could draw you a map, but I don't know any of the street names....  It's on a little side street running between beach road and the Highway)

Jane, we've been wanting to try Phoenix. Do they cook at the table? Love Japanese and the cooking show is fun!

Cracker- I think that restaurant is closed if its the one I think it is. I think the building has been condemned and they are going to tear it down and build some sort of high rise there.

Village Tavern is our favorite.  Consistantly good food and service, moderate pricing, good wine list...and pleasant staff!  Will look for Kayla next time.

Crackah goes to HAM'S

I am embarrassed to say this, but tonight I ate at Ham's for the FIRST TIME IN LIKE 20 YEARS (yes, I know that would make me 9 when I last ate there Mike.  ;))

I know, I know... where have I been?  We used to frequent the one on Friendly during the college years, but just never made my way back there.

So it all started when Hubby got a gift card for Christmas from Ham's. One night we tried the Brassfield location, but they were packed and we ended up at Lone Star.  Last night we set out for Ham's Lakeside over off Cone Blvd, but did not account for March Madness and the cars were lined up for blocks.  I was beginning to think we would be taking the Ham's card to the grave.  It just wasn't meant to be.

Then a friend mentioned that there was a Ham's on 68 in the Palladium shopping center so tonight we set our caps to try once again.  It was difficult for me to pass the Backyard Burger cause I LOVE ME A BACKYARD BURGER, but we traveled onward on a mission now to use the Ham's gift card.

Drove up.  Looked roomy so we decided to give it a go.  After a mere 25 minute wait we were seated and Heidi waited on us.  She was great.  Drew pictures for Ritz Bits on the menu and everything.

Anyway... MY POINT IS... I had fried the shrimp and that was absolutely the best fried shrimp I have ever had.

And yes we had the chips, but hubby makes them and they are just as good.

Get the fried shrimp.

Awww, Cracker, I'm glad ya'll finally got to eat!! You must have been starving by the time you got over to High Point!

I heard the Brassfield Ham's has been remodeled. I haven't been there in a couple of years ? maybe. I think the last time we were there, the famous chips were all floppy and greasy so they got put on my "don't go there anymore" list. But we might try the one out 68 now.

How does Backyard Burger compare to Fuddruckers? We LOVE Fuddrucker's burgers. Hubby grills a mean burger (had one last night - yum!) but sometimes we just like to go out for a burger too. We've been meaning to give Backyard a try.

Backyard Burger ROCKS!

It's just a burger joint, but it's a burger joint with yummy burgers!

Haven't been to Fuddruckers cause I was always afraid I'd misprounounce it! :P

I'm a mushroom lover and the BYard mushroom and swiss burger is scrumptious! My favorite backyard burger by far!

OK, I have nothing to report at this time but I'm trying to make a sweep of the MAAN forums  :D so I will say that I have a date tomorrow night (with the spoose of course ;)) and I think we might try Revival Grill.

Haven't been there in a couple of years. I've heard they have revamped and I got a coupon in the mail today. (The best things in life are free, second best are things you have a coupon for :D) Anybody got anything to report about Revival Grill?

Well, we went to Harper's in Friendly Center instead. Looked at Revival Grill menu online and was a bit too fancy for me. Harper's is always good, great service! Had homemade chips with bleu cheese (YUM!), crab cakes and cole slaw, spoose had a new southwestern chicken dish. All yummy!

Have you seen the old Burlington Industries site? WOW, they are moving along. It's sad that it is gone (I still get sad about the Terrace Theater - maybe that's why I don't like to eat at Macaroni Grill :() but looks like there will be lots more opportunity to spend some $Texas :D

Tossing my revival grill coupon Kris. Thanks for the heads up.

Never been there.

We ate at Ham's again Friday.  Thought about that Shrimp all week.

Gotta say the one on 68 was better than Brassfield.  Food and service. Of course we sat in the bar this time and the kids were with us so no alcohol incentive to drive up the tip amount may have had something to do with the lousy service.....

I get sad about those Burlington Pink windows being gone too when I ride by that spot Kris, but I quickly rebound when I think of the new retail opportunities coming our way!

Have you seen how they raped the corner of 220 and Horsepen Creek/Old Battleground for the new Harris Teeter?  Talk about pitiful looking.....

Don't toss yor coupon on The reville Grill. Just go on a special occasion. It is really good food even if a little pricey.  Go on a night when the kids are somewhere else.

DBF and I went to Sirloin House on 68/220 this weekend, and I was quite impressed. It's the typical fish camp/steak house decor, but the steaks were EXCELLENT, the service was great (even considering that our server was having a self-proclaimed Blonde Day *and* there was a party of at least 25 people in the middle of her section), and the prices were quite reasonable. We left stuffed to the eyebrows, yet not too light in the wallet. They also have a selection of jellies, bbq sauces and chutneys for sale at the entrance. I'm kicking myself because I didn't grab a jar of grape jelly.

The new Chop House on Pisgah Church is the best for a special lunch.  Even though I couldn't get past the crabcake sandwich which is the yummiest ever, everyone raved about their assorted lunches.  Maybe next time I can bypass my favorite and try something different.  Good friendly service, too!

Yep!!  Been to the Sirloin House several times!   Just didn't know the current name of it.

It surprised me that they have such a varied menu and everything we've tried is good.  You know, usually at a fish house, the steaks aren't good and vice versa... They even had Italian stuff on the menu.  Lots of variety!

Well, our crew doesn't eat out much, but next time we do, I'll have to keep Sirloin House in mind....

We really like Mexican, so would appreciate opinions on favorite Mexican places in the area!

Crackah -- I noticed you and Kris aren't meeting at a Mexican place tonight! Maybe y'all could let us know how it was!!!

The little ones really like Rio Grande, and I prefer it to Holy Guacamole, but maybe there are others out there even better.

'Course, I'd like to know which ones serve the best frozen Margueritas!!!:dude: ♥♥♥

Macca... our family of 5 ate at Monterrey (Brassfield) for $29.00 tonight.  You just can't beat that price.

2 kids had kids meals.... the rest of us ate real food.  One asked for an extra side of rice which he wouldn't charge us for and when we asked to take our extra cheeps (that's spanish for chips) home, MAURO, who is the greatest waiter ever, not only gave us our chips and salsa, but filled the bag and container back up for free.

Twice I've been to the Wholly Guacamole place and I did not care for it.

Haven't tried the new place that Steve says had authentic tasting Mexican food.  Looked like the folks who used to jam the parking lot at Elizabeth's have moved down to that place.  Couldn't get in the parking lot.

Lacka eats at Rio Grande in OR a lot.  She loves it. I haven't been yet.

I don't know if you can beat Monterrey for price or service.

In Mayodan on East Main street where Rio Grande (they moved beside K-mart) use to be, is a place call Corina (know I didn't spell that right). My son eats there all the time, it stays busy every night but they don't have mixed drinks...( thats why Rio Grande moved) I don't eat Mexican, but they say this place has real Mexican food....

Has anybody eaten at the Full Moon Oyster Bar in Kernersville?

It is absolutely to - die for.  Oysters, Crab legs, all kinds of different fish, very fresh & reasonably priced.   Worth the drive.

Started the weekend early :D and had dinner at the new Chili's on New Garden Rd tonight! It was really good and we had good service too. We did hear some tables around us having problems with food, service - I think they  probably just have some "new restaurant kinks" to work out.

I had the Southwestern Eggrolls (on the appetizer menu) and they were yummy! The 3 of us polished off 3 baskets of chips and salsa as well :D:shock::D

Hey Cracker, where'd you eat tonight?! I had to get out of the kitchen/out from under my piles of squash and cucumbers :D

But guess what? Came home to a phone message from the garden connection - THE CORN IS IN!!!!

Ate in tonight Kris.... Dining on breadsticks tomorrow night though! ;)  It's Triscuit's Birthday!

I've got a restaurant review.....  Makes me unhappy to say this, cause I really really like the folks at Libby Hill (Cotswold) but my Libby Hill food seems to be going downhill.

The last three times I've been there, the shrimp (calabash and fantail) were microscopic and tasted nasty.

Red Lobster lost us as customers when I figured out they were using "Sea Pack" shrimp which I could buy at the grocery store (if I liked "Sea Pack" seafood.) Also, I learned to make their Cheddar Bay biscuits and didn't need to go there anymore for my carbo fixes. :D

Anyhoo... I'll be stickin' to the Mayflower to get my Bubba Gump Shrimp fix until Libby Hill makes some changes!

Family Diner is on Hwy 68 next door to the car lot on one side and the convenience store on the other.  You can get hot plate dinners (meat & 2 veg w/tea) for $4.55!  Last night they had BBQ chicken, Cubed Steak & gravy, peas & corn, pintos, green beans, creamed potatoes, deviled eggs, slaw, mac salad, & I forget what else.  They also do dessert - last night it was peach cobbler or some type of cake - your choice!  Also, they have short orders like burgers, salads, etc.  pretty good for the price!  This one guy got a hot dog, fries & water & only paid under $3... gotta luv that!

I haven't heard anything about what they are doing with the Teresa's Restaurant property.  (I'm assuming that's the one you are talking about) I know Kris and I were hoping an Olive Garden would appear there one day, but I'm not holding my breath till that happens.

Here are some of my favorites in the 1.5 years i have lived in North Carolina

Mexican - La Fiesta off Wendover on Bridford Pkwy(i think). Great mexican, not overdone or americanized too much

Thai -- Rearn Thai off of Market. This place is awesome, great food, basic atmosphere and very clean. Not your average stripmall style.

Chinese -- Authentic, nothing i have found yet. For fusion I like Pheonix off of New Garden or if all else fails PF Changs

Italian -- If i go chain i only go Macaroni Grill, no TOG. Elizabeths is fine for Italian American or southern italian dishes (sauces and meat)

German -- Haven't found one yet, I am German descent so if you know one let me know.

BBQ -- I haven't been sold on the Lexington Style but coming from Chicago, originally, BBQ was more about the sauce than the meat. I did like a place that closed up 68 called Pappy's. He only does catering now, but he did (does) a slow smoked brisket that should win him a Nobel Peace Prize.

Indian -- Nikita (may not be open anymore) this guy has another location just south of the harris teeter plaza on 68 toward high point. This is probably my favorite style of food, the flavors are, IMHO, the most complex and varying in all world cuisine. They are, afterall, keepers of the great world spices. One could argue that we owe america to the indian cooking culture, it was the main reason that Columbus set out to bump, accidently into the West "Indies" and "discover" america (new world). Even if scandinavians beat him out by several centuries he still got the rich nations to look this way. They wanted a fast route to the spice islands and india. The food, like the people and culture, has a massive spectrum of flavor. In india over 1500 dialects are spoken, leading to you see that with a country that vast and varied the food must reflect it. If you love chinese you will love indian because of the use of some of the same spices like ginger, if you love italian you will love indian because of the savoriness of northern dishes, if you love mexican then you will love indian, the indian culture knows hot and spicy like no one else, i repeat no one else. If you are eating for the first time always opt for mild spiciness. I have been addicted to indian cuisine for about 6 years now and never venture above medium spicy in places where i know what that means. Seriously, not a lot of people try this food because of cullinary fear or culture misconceptions, you are the only one losing in that scenario.

Those are my favorites. Also for a good coffee, conversation and ham/cheese croisant (sp?) i go to Rendovoux (sp?) Cafe in the Commons Shopping Center, Oak Ridge. The owner, Julien,  is a great guy, french, former chef of genache in greensboro and the place is great for coffee, food, wifi working lunches and conversation.

and before you ask, yes i don't like to capitalize too much, it is a quirk.

Cheers,

Stonefree -- Do what i please - JH

Got it. Actually at home i have switched to grinding all my own patties. I like to add stuff into the meat for more flavor and I like knowing what is ground in there is all meat, and know what cut I used for it.

Love to hear of a good old Granny Burger, I love the name!

Being genetically southern, I didn't know what a granny burger was either stonefree! ;)

DToney, for a good fast food burger, I like to eat at Backyard Burger on 68.

Cookout on Battleground (behind Omega Sports) used to be good, but the last couple of times it was just so-so. Maybe it was because I ordered a small burger and they cooked it to death. Cookout is worth visiting for the milkshakes alone.... And I don't know if they pipe that smell outta there or what, but it smells like Granny's backyard!!!! YUM!

I reckon you could call "granny burger" a "personal term" used to describe the best burger you can buy in a restaurant.  It is definitely not in Webster!  ;)

Thanks for the tips!  I'll have to check them out... the one on 68... is it closer to I-40?

Last time I was at Cookout, the young lady at the window was sporting a nose ring and a lip ring, and fingernails about an inch long.  The fingernails are what really got to me.  Guess she doesn't cook as well, and maybe she's no longer there, but it kinda turned me off. I've heard the milkshakes are good.

Sorry it took me so long to answer you DToney!  I was MIA on an Iceberg or something... I forget.

Anyway, the Backyard Burger joint is just past I-40 on the right.  You keep driving on 68 like you are intending to go to High Point and it'll be there right after the Ruby Tuesday's intersection.

We don't eat out a lot, mainly reserve it for special occasions (birthdays, anniversaries, etc), so when we do we try to make it count!

Our younger son always wants to go to Rio Grande, which we all enjoy. (Yummy Margaritas:D) Our older son like Japanese restaurants, and we've tried 3 different ones in G'boro. Last night we went to Arigato's at the corner of Holden and Patterson and enjoyed it very much.

In the past month we've eaten out a lot and enjoyed them all... Scott had a meeting at Ham's on Church Street and took his sister who was visiting from out of town. They enjoyed their sandwiches as well as the homemade chips.

We also took out of town relatives to Country BBQ on Wendover and enjoyed it. We used to eat there a lot but it isn't as convenient to where we are as it once was.

This weekend we went to Laddie and Dukes (I had a yummy Chicken Alfredo dish and they also had good homemade chips). We also went to Elizabeth's (had relatives visiting from out of town) and I think we all ordered something different and enjoyed it all.

For something different, you might want to watch for the special dinners they have at Stonefield Cellars, the winery here in Stokesdale. You can to to their web site to find out about them, and you can get on an e-mail list and they'll send you notices about them. Scott and I went to one a couple of weeks ago and it was great! The food was cooked and served by the folks at 123 South Elm Street. They did a great job of pairing the food with the wines.

So, I guess we've used up our quota of getting to eat out for a while! Of course, we do have an anniversary coming up....:D

I was at Arigato's recently and enjoyed it too! They serve a little dessert thingy Mon-Thurs along with your meal -- some kind of vanilla pastry. ALSO, when we were there their sanitation grade was 100.5!! ♥♥♥

As I mentioned earlier, Scott and I had an anniversary. Yesterday, Aug. 10, was our 20th! As usual, we decided to go to a nice restaurant to celebrate. This year we chose Leblon Brazilian Steakhouse, located at 4512 West Market (between Montrose and Holden, near Walker Avenue. Amalfi Harbor is beside it.) We had never been before, but had heard about it. Orson Scott Card mentions it in his Ender series of books and he always raves about it. We made reservations but I'm not sure we needed them.

You have unlimited access to a fabulous salad bar that includes the basic ingredients as well as smoked salmon, artichoke hearts, asparagus spears, among other items. The restaurant is set up in true Brazilian style, evidently. {Their brochure says "Experience an authentic Brazilian Steakhouse.") They bring skewers of 10 different meats to your table and keep bringing them until you tell them to stop. Meats are Picanha (special cut from the rump roast), Alcatra (full top sirloin), Fraldinha (bottom sirloin), Filet Com Bacon (beef tenderloin with bacon), Picanha Com Alho (rump roast cut with garlic), Costela De Porco (pork ribs), Lombinho Com Queijo (pork loin with Parmesan -- my favorite), Sasichao (pork sausage), Pernil De Cordeiro (leg of lamb), and Lmbinho (pork loin). Servers also bring sides of potatoes, fried bananas and cheese bread to your table.

This is all offered at a fixed price of $25.95 for adults, $15.95 for children 10 and under, and $8.95 for children 5 and under. There were two large groups of families when we were there, as well as small groups. Beverages, desserts, tax and gratuity are not included in the fixe price. They also offer private dining rooms downstairs. It was very attractive, with hardwood floors and nice lighting and artwork. Service was excellent. We both thoroughly enjoyed it and plan to go again. (I have a birthday coming up!:D We told the kids about it and they think it sounds like a good idea!!)

uh whats there sanitation score?    Speaking of sanitary we went to the Sanitary rest. in Morehead City, another place to never go back to, overpriced food was mediocre and not much of it.The iced tea was sweetened with honey. I guess Stokesdales own fire dept. bbq hushpuppies have spoiled me , have never found any that were even close to them. Also went to the Channel Marker in Atlantic Beach highly recommend it , grilled yellowfin tuna was great and priced the same as the Sanitary.

Gosh Ya'll, you're missing the obvious when it comes to great hushpuppies.

If you want the very best hushpuppies you will ever put in your mouth, then get Thee over to Oak Ridge to the Old Mill of Guilford and buy some of their homemade hushpuppy mix (and remember it is stone ground right there at the oldest continuously operating water mill in America since 1767). The recipe is included with the mix and this stuff is the nectar for the Gods. Yummy. And easy too!

Plus you'll never meet any nicer people than Charlie Parnell and his lovely wife Heidi. Tell 'em I sent you!

You can't have great hushpuppies unless you start with great hushpuppy mix and this is the best in all of America and at least 10 or 15  state and county fairs.

Say, ff12, someone has mentioned that restaurant before -- don't know if it was you or not. Sounds as though we might want to make a trip to check it out! Where is it in Walkertown? I know to go up 158 towards W-S, and know where Hwy 66/Old Hollow Road crosses it. Is it right there, or do you turn right there? Thanks! Always in the mood for good Mexican food! :) ♥♥♥

DToney - We love Village Tavern! Eat on the patio when the weather is nice- best outdoor dining in Greensboro.

You can see their menu at http://www.villagetavern.com I don't think it shows prices but my favorite dish is Chicken Colorado and I think it's $10.95 or so. Sandwiches are around $6-8 and come with a side.(they have wonderful potato salad!)  Fish and beef are probably $17-25. EVERYTHING on the menu is good!

I have 2 other favorites in that price range- Lucky 32 and Green Valley Grill. They also have very good service, excellent food and at Green Valley wonderful music. If You haven't been to them check them out. They are owned by the same people with very different menus that change about every 6 weeks or so. they buy lots of local food and Steve Tate with Goat Lady is the cheese buyer? for Green Valley so lots of fresh Goat lady cheese on the menu. Its hard to go wrong with either Village, Green Valley or Lucky 32.

Just Green Valley and Lucky 32 owned by the same people. We eat at Green Valley a lot on Saturday for lunch. One of my daughters favorite restaurants.

Fingers are fairly back to natural color today thank you. Hopefully I will be able to keep the cake frozen and covered enough in the freezer to have the rest of it at the next council meeting.

My favorite...what do you want to know????

VT started with the Reynola Rd. location, if you have never been there is is a must do if you are in Winston for any reason.  Very charming, if you have to wait for a table you can stroll the village and window shop.  They have restaurants in Alpharetta, GA, Broomfield, Co, Charlotte, NC, Scottsdale, AZ, Birmingham, AL, Griffith Rd, Winston, and Reynolda Rd. Winston (love Reynolda Road) and our town Greensboro.

You can visit their website http://www.villagetavern.com They do not have prices on the website, but you can get an idea of what they offer.  I think the prices are very reasonable for what you get.  The portions are plentiful and you will not go away hungry.

They have recently replaced menu items and it seems that they have made excellent choices.  I love the 10 Spice Salmon, OH yum.  OK I do not eat meatloaf, but when I heard that they sell out of it everytime they have it, I had to try it.  It is just heaven. Whatever you order get it with their garlic mashed potatoes.  I could live in a bowl and eat my way out.  The Tavern Salad which comes with a meal is enough for a meal.

You must save room for dessert.  Listen to what I say here,  I know what I am talking about.  Get a doggie bag for the rest of that steak, honey.  You will be hooked if you try the double decker cheese cake.  It is served with chocolate and raspberry sauce, but let me give you a little hint, smile at your server and and ask them for carmel instead, they will accomidate you and you will not be sorry.  There is nothing better served in Greensboro.

VT really puts their focus on customer service.  It is difficult to get a poor server at VT in the dining room, or bar.  If you are in the bar area, I suggest you sit at the bar (not booth) and ask for "V" to be your server.  She is wonderful!!!!  She will suggest a wine, appetizer or entree.  She wil inquire about your interest and suggest the perfect meal.  Not sure how she does that, but have never been disapointed. All of the bartenders are great, but she is the one you want.

A couple of VT tips:

Thursday night is pick up night in the bar....so choose your night based on that information.  You may want to go, you may not.

VT is known for their wine knowledge.  If you are interested and not sure , please ask your server.  This is what they know.  They can recommend a wine if you tell them what you are interested in trying.  They will give you a sample if you are not sure and they want to know that you are pleased with the selection.  They win awards for wine selection and knowledge.......amazing.....

If you want to know about an item on the menu please ask your server.  They can describe every item, if by chance they are new, they will ask for assistance.  They have tried most items on the menu which is what sets them apart.  They will listen to you and recommend entrees that they think you would like.  If there is something that they think doesn't quite meet your needs or taste, they will ask that your entree be prepared to your specifications.....

This is a secret for the forum friends only.....don't tell anyone else .....if there is a menu item that they do not have any longer and you really want it, they will do everything possible to make it for you.  Like the Caribbean Salmon  (not sure why they got rid of this, what were they thinking) or the Blue Cheese Omelet (you gotta love blue cheese).  They are just wonderful!!!

DT you have to go.....Just try it once and you will love it.  They are wonderful!!!!

I agree with everything Lacka said,  just keep in mind. VT is like every other restaurant in town.  They exploit the heck out of their servers making around $3.00/hour, so if your server takes good care of you, it's nice to return the favor in form of a healthy tip.  Don't get fooled into thinking, it's a nice restaurant, they must pay their hired help well.   They don't.

VT is not unique in that regard, same applies to all other restaurants in town.  All our kids went the way of working in restaurants, all had the exact same experience, all found employ in other industries.

As Jane points out, Lucky 32 and Green Valley are owned by Dennis Quaintance, who was one of the two original owners of the old Franklin's Off Friendly. Bill Sherrill was the other owner of Franklin's and also the sole owner of the old Spring Garden Bar and Grills. Bill now owns the Red Oak Brewery and I think he still has a farm in Oak Ridge where he lives when he is not traveling all over the world for pleasure.

Dennis named his first restaurant Lucky 32's when he found a financial backer/partner (Mike Weaver of Weaver Properties) to help him open his first restuarant on his own, and all at the ripe old age (at the time) of 32 years of age. Dennis was also instrumental not only in opening the Green Valley Grill but the hotel as well along with Mike Weaver. Success has followed Dennis on an extraordinary basis, and that, as Paul Harvey would say, is the rest of the story.

And all three men, Dennis, Bill and Mike are all three gentlemen of the first order!

I thought you all might enjoy a little restaurant 'history lesson.'

I worked as a server while in school... know full well how important it is to take care of those that take care of me!  We DID sit in the bar area when we went & it was the best! They're some fine folks up there I tell you!  Great Service!

On the other end of the dining side if you are passing thru Raleigh and want breakfast  then the restaurant at the state farmers market is a must . Eggs grits and tenderloin and not just one piece but 3 slices of tenderloin. I have been told that they will make sure you really want pancakes if you ask for them, you get 2 and they absolutely cover the entire plate. Some of the NCSU football players eat breakfast ther, maybe thats why they can't move enough to stop Akron.

As good has the restaurant is at the state farmers market, why is the one at the farmers market in Colfax been on the back side of mediocre. maybe we can get Steve troxler to get whoever runs the one in Raleigh to come up here and run this one.

For really good Italian food try Vito's in the Golden Gate Shopping Center.  It feels like a little, out-of-the-way family restaurant you discover in a big city.  Never crowded, good service, great prices.

however there was a woman there last night the waitress said was the mgr's wife that did not have her long locks tied back... the waitresses are made to wear their hair up with a hat on... but this chic was in the kitchen & all around the food prep area with her hair all down and a swingin!  That was kinda bad-biz...........:?

Silverware must have finally run out. :?

Rumor has it this location could not achieve high enough sales or profits to satisfy their corporate office, so in SMSandra's famous words, was erased.

Frankly, our last couple trips there were unimpressive, same excuse (new cook).   We took our business elsewhere..........apparently others did also.

CRACKAH! Didn't know you were such a country music aficianado (sp?)... !!! The name of the song is "You Never Even Call Me by My Name." It was written by Steve Goodman and originally released by David Allan Coe. It's great just to listen to the lyrics.....

In the middle part Coe starts talking about how Goodman told him he'd written "the perfect country and western song" and Coe told him he hadn't b/c he hadn't said anything about prison, trains, mama, gettin' drunk, or pickup trucks.... So the next part starts out: "Well I was drunk the day my mom got out of prison.... but before I could get her in my pickup truck, she got runned over by a damned ol' train!" :D:D:D

It seems to me that the greatest thing BEFORE sliced bread would have been bread slicers (assuming of course that bread was invented AFTER the bread slicer).

Conversely, if bread was invented BEFORE bread slicers, wouldn't it make sense that the greatest thing BEFORE sliced bread was simply unsliced bread?

Well, I knew the greatest thing before sliced bread had to involve carbohydrates, so I'll take that answer! :D

The Seafood Shack in Walkertown is a pretty good place to eat. Tuna steak grilled was very good. Stuffed flounder was good also , stay away from the steaks and Blu Cheese dressing though. Prices not bad.

Thanks Steve I have been meaning to write about a really bad experience we had at Applebees on Battleground a couple of weeks ago. I have written them off my list of places I will eat. We arrived one night to try them out after several years of not eating there. My husband let me out in front to go in while he parked the car. We waited several minutes to be seated. The people in front of us had not liked where they were seated and had gotten up and were waiting to be reseated. We were finally seated. The place was abosolutely not busy. Lots of open tables. We sat for 8 minutes before a really sweet waitress rushed up and asked if we had been waited on. When we indicated we had not she advised she would go get somebody immediately. 4 or 5 minutes later we got up and walked all the way to the front door before somebody asked us if there was a problem. After we were seated and except for the one contact not one single other person asked if they could help. It was obvious there was no supervisor in the place as the wait staff was congregated in the back of the restaurant talking and laughing loudly.

We went down the street and ate at Laddies and Dukes and it was wonderful. The service was excellent and the food was great. It was no more expensive then it would have been at Applebees. First impressions are so important and there are too many choices for me to ever give Applebees another chance.

I had a similar experience at that same Applebees. My wife and I went to eat with some of our friends who have a 2 and a 4 year old. Anyway, waited forever to sit (for no reason) and when we ordered, it took forever to get the food. Well tahnkfully the kids' food came earlier than the rest but they finished eating before the rest of us got our food. By this time, none of us could eat because the kids were getting very restless. This was on a Sunday so the kids had been up a while going to church. Finally a few of the meals came out but not all. One of these had steamed veggies that tasted like dish soap. Like they had been steamed over a pool of liquid soap! The manager even tasted it and gave us all our meals for free. However, by that time we were all so ready to leave that those of us who had not yet gotten their food did not even want to bother. We left a tip for the (somewhat existent) server and got out of there never to return again.

-not that I particularly care for the food/prices anyway.

I'm not sure whether or not it will do any good, but I did forward a copy of both Jane and bama's complaint about the Battleground Avenue resturant location service issues to the Guest Relations Department at Applebee's national corporate headquarters. I did this first because they are the only ones in a position to cure these quality control issues and secondly, out of curiosity of whether they will care enough to respond. I will let you know if I hear anything back from them.

Oh Jim I will tell you exactly what they are going to say because I have already done that. I got an email back saying they were forwarding my complaint on to the local office and that they hoped I would come back.  It will be a cold day in ..... before I set foot in Applebees again.

Jane, here is an update.

I did get the same email which you received saying they had forwarded my email complaint to their local franchisor and that I would be hearing directly from them.

The next day, I received an email from the franchisor saying they were reviewing my complaint and would be back in touch.

This morning, in the mail (US Post) I received a very nice letter from the franchisor in Raleigh apologizing for the lack of quality service (that the service issue complaint really wasn't my own wasn't mentioned) and then asked that I consider returning for a visit to one of their North Carolina restaurants. They enclosed some very nice free passes for 4 free meals in their mailing, so I will try them out and let you know if the service has improved.

I was actually impressed by their response and always appreciate a free meal or two or four!

I may have received a somewhat different response (4 free meal passes) than you did for the simple reason that I included my postal mailing address in my initial email complaint to Applebees.

Jane, maybe I should 'treat' you and Bama to a free lunch or dinner over at Applebees to make amends for your earlier lack of service!

Why heck, we'll even invite Pappy along for entertainment purposes. Who knows, with Pappy and I in there together a'hootin' and a'hollerin', they might even rush their service to get us out of there and even pay us to leave!

Pappy wonder if they'uns serve bacon?

^ no worries. you did the leg work. You enjoy the meal. I don't care to return either. I never really liked it in the first place. the price for the food (which isnt spectacular) just isnt worth it. For the money, i would prefer to go to other places. Thanks for the info tho.

I ate at Laddie & Dukes the other day for the last time. Every time I've been I always get some rude waitor that acts like it's a bother that we are eating there. The food is ALWAYS SO bland. I ate the chicken pot pie and I couldn't taste a thing. I had the people with me try it and they couldn't taste it either. Put a fork in me, I'm done.

Red Robin on New Garden Rd is a great place to eat. I have eaten there several times. The waitors are ALWAYS friendly, you don't have to wait a long time. And the manager always comes by and asks if the service we are getting is good. I really like that, it shows that they really appreciate our business.

Wholly Guacamole is good as well. There is never a wait, food is brought out promptly, and the waitors are extremely nice.

Elizabeth's Pizza at Horse Pen Creek Rd is good. My favorite is the baked ziti. I always say I will try something different, but I end up getting that every time LOL.

IHOP at Green Valley Rd - A lady told me she went there for lunch a few weeks ago and roaches were crawling up the wall behind her AAAACCCK! I will take her word for it and I won't eat there.

I posted this some time back but Applebees is absolutely off my list. Never not ever will I try to eat there. Love Village Tavern, Lucky 32, Green Valley Grill and Cafe Pasta.

Has anybody tried the new italian restuarant in the shopping center across from Brassfield? It got good reviews in the paper. Use to be the Thai restuarant.

I haven't eaten at that new place Jane. You are SO on the money about Applebee's on Battleground. The service is TERRIBLE! Especially during lunch. The waitors are SLOW and hateful. They need to get a clue. No wonder when I drive by there I never see a lot of cars in their parking lot.

I'm sorry you have had bad experiences at L&D. We have never had bad service there and the food is always great :? They have the best homemade potato chips in town. The Reuben sandwich is a mouth watering delight! No connection to the restaurant or anything - I just love it there and had to give another opinion.

Red Robin - we've eaten there twice and it was very LOUD, prices seem kinda steep but we did have good service and the food was good.

I can't wait to see what all is going in over on New Garden - there's a new southwestern restaurant (Salsuilitos??) close to opening right by Target.

We ate at Salvino's last night. The food was excellent and the service was just as good. The portabello, spinach stuffed ravioli was outstanding.  The are in the shopping center with Gold's gym and Tuesday Morning. Tiny place very well run.

Stopped by Salvino's to check out a menu and it looks yummy.  Can't wait for an out to eat night.  Is the owner the same one who once had a small take-out Italian place on lawndale( near Food Dog)?

Had lunch today at Chop House Grille and it was outstanding, as usual.  I knew the service would be good when our server brought black napkins to replace white ones to those of us who were wearing dark pants.  That kind of gimmick impresses me since I don't get (or give) that kind of service at home.:D

And, oh, Chef....the portions were much too large for lunch.  None of us ate everything although it was delicious.  Of course, maybe it was because there was no bacon.  Also, the prices have increased slightly. I don't go often because 10.95 and up is a little steep for me for lunch.  I know you pay for ambiance, quality, and service, too, so I'm sure pricing walks a fine line.

Is it me, or is the Stokesdale Subway the WORST in the county? Every single time I think I'll give it another chance, I end up kicking myself. And now I'm kicking myself. Silly me - I just wanted a sandwich. I walked in, made eye contact with the kid behind the counter (whom I shall refer to as Zombie Girl, since she returned my smile with the kind of flat, lifeless stares that zombie horror film actors spend hours trying to perfect) and took my place under the 'Place Order Here' sign as I waited for her to finish with the customer in front of me. As she finished, another woman walked in and started asking about whether or not Subway takes credit cards. Instead of telling the woman that there was a customer ahead of her, Zombie Girl threw me another flat stare, then proceeds to take Credit Card Woman's  order!

I entertained the notion of asking for the manager's name, but frankly I just don't think it's worth the effort of complaining again. I've had it with this place. No more chances. I can think of one - count 'em, one occasion when I've walked in, been served and left satisfied. One out of roughly ten times over two years. At least, I think that's how long the shop has been open.

With those odds, I wouldn't go back even if they were giving out free sandwiches.

If that's true, then they've got footage of me walking out!

It's just amazing to me how incredibly inept the employees are at that place. I'm not hard to please. I just want to be able to walk in, wait my turn, order my food, pay and leave. I guess that's too much to expect.

Alicia, I think I have been waited on by Zombie Girl too, and I agree with your comments, not only about her, but the overall lack of service from the other employees as well.

Even worse, is the tiniest portions of 2 or 3 'small slices' of cheese that they put on their sandwiches (how could they even slice cheese so thinly?). The meat portions aren't much better.

Even though I live in Stokesdale, I usually drive to the Oak Ridge Subway (when I don't want to drive into Greensboro) because of Slow or No service at the Stokesdale location.

Of course, if you really want great (deli) sandwiches, Jersey Mike's beats Subway hands down. And for the very best in subs and deli sandwiches, try Lox, Stock and Bagel on Battleground. No one else can touch LS&B on quality for the price and the service is great too (whether take-out or eat in). Both are more worth the drive to Greensboro over eating Subway anywhere.

Alicia- "NO SOUP FOR YOU!"

haha- I've never had a problem there but I would not notice that sort of thing. I just sorta walk in and as soon as its my turn start giving my order.

I hate those people that never ask you what you would like, so then you wonder if you are waiting for them or if you do go ahead and start ordering, they will tell you to hold on.

I've underlined exactly what happens at the Subway in question. It's as if the employees resent the fact that you've come in,  and you've added insult to injury by expecting them to take your order.

I've worked fast food. In fact, when I was in my teens, I worked in a Subway in CLT. I know it's a sucky job, so I always try to be an easy customer, whether I'm in a Subway or another fast food joint. I talk to the employees like they're people (something I notice that many others don't bother to do). I say "please" and "thank you." It's not as if I expect to be greeted with a brass band, balloons and a shower of confetti when I walk in the door. But when I am ignored from the instant I walk in, it tends to tick me off. It's not that hard to say, "I'll be with you in a moment," or "What would you like today?"

In all honesty, if I were to list out even half of the stuff I've seen going down in this particular store, you'd think twice about eating there.

My preference is Quiznos (hate their commercials but love their subs), but last night I just didn't feel like driving all the way down Battleground. I should have just stayed home and had Cheerios for supper.  I ended up dining on Cheerios anyway. If we had a Quiznos up here, within one week of its opening, there would be nothing in the Subway but cobwebs and skeletonized employees slumped over the counter.

As for the portions, I've noticed that they've shrunk a lot. As I said in another post, I worked in a Subway when I was in my teens (many moons ago...). The BMT footlong used to be one big chunk of a sandwich. Now it's nothing.

Thanks for the LS&B recommendation. I've never tried their sandwiches.

Giacomo's (pronounced jock a moe's) has AWESOME sandwiches. Best kept secret in GSO. Behind the Gate station at the intersection of Battleground and New Garden. If you like Italian Deli food this is the place. Now you know why I am the big guy.

Now, Mr. Mike, be honest. Didn't know you liked a salad anything.....

You probably order a BLT with quadruple bacon and no lettuce or tomato. Probably no bread either, for that matter, but maybe some cheese. :D

My wife and I have lived in the Greensboro area for 7 years, three different residences, now on the outskirts of Stokesdale.  Our comments on area restaurants:

Jersey Mike's on Battleground - great turkey subs and steak & cheese, been there so often I don't have to order anymore

Ruth's Chris Steakhouse on Green Valley - too formal for us, way too expensive, excellent steak cooked at unusually high temperature, good place to impress clients with $8 baked potato.  Location under office building is lame.

Village Tavern on Westridge - must be good, always too crowded to get inside

Laddie & Duke's on Battleground - OK food, marginal service, reasonable prices, a step up from Applebee's, but not sure how this place stays in business

Waffle House on Battleground - rarely find one of these this far away from interstates, love sitting at the counter and jawboning with the grill man at 3am.

Mahi's on Lawndale - quiet, romantic, great seafood, in a lousy hidden location

Fuzzy's BBQ in Madison - good old fashioned country cue shack

Carter Brothers BBQ in Hight Point - excellent, always packed at lunchtime

Chili's on High Point Rd - love the ribs & beer in the bar

Asahi on Market - awesome Japanese chefs, and sake!

McAllister's Deli in High Point - delicious sandwiches

Firehouse Subs in High Point - southeastern chain founded by firemen, get the 8" Italian fully loaded

Mama Gina's Pizza in Summerfield - will deliver a pizza all the way out to my house in the boonies of Rockingham county

Outback on Battleground - good $17 steaks, quality seems to be declining

Harper's on Friendly - good place to take grandparents, classic american food

Wholly Guacamole' on Battleground - way better food and drinks than the "Mexico" restaurants, but you'll definitely pay for it

*Places we'll never go again: Applebees, Libby Hill Seafood, Ham's, Stamey's, Red Oak Brewery, Capra's Deli

**New place we plan to try soon: Lucky 32 on Westover

***Need your recommendations for excellent Italian, and seafood   :D

For Italian, try Vino's at Golden Gate Shopping Center.  New York feel - not too "overdone Italian decor"  Service OK because I always thing I'm being served by a nephew or someone's sister.  Not professional but attentive. Food has always been good and very reasonable.

The other hidden one to try is Salvino's.  I understand the food is outstanding but haven't been able to try it yet. It's across from Brassfield, next to where the Cue and Spirits used to be and maybe still are.

Another to try is Grappa Grille across from Target on Lawndale.  Open only for dinner.  Very quiet, soft music, great service.   Prices a little more than some others, but not out of sight.  Let us know if you like it.

Hi RYJulian,

As for Italian restaurants, I really enjoy Bravo's in the new part of Friendly Shopping Center. The restaurant is very attractive and I especially enjoy the grilled chicken and shrimp scampi (I think it's about $13, so not TOO pricey). I've been there three times so far and service has been consistently very good each time. (And of course, I would be remiss in not mentioning that I also love Elizabeth's in Oak Ridge and the one on the corner of Battleground and Horse Pen Creek.)

Thanks for your recommendations -- I don't get to High Point much, but I've passed by Mahi's on Lawndale for years and have never eaten there ... I'll have to give it a try.

SAlvino's was very good. I wish they had some less cheesy sauces but the cheesy one I had was excellent.

Lucky 32 is where I would eat everyday if I could. The menu's change frequently and the service over is very good. I also like their sister restaurant Green Valley Grill.

I love Village Tavern but I get tired of their menu and have to stop eating there for awhile and then go back. We like to eat there on Saturday late lunch. Seldom crowded after about 1:30 or 2.

WELCOME TO THE FORUM RYJULIAN!!!!!!  :D

Ha!  Now I can say that I KNOW someone who's eaten an 8$ baked potato!!! ;)

I tell ya... I like the Mayflower in Madison for good ol' nuthin' fancy seafood. (Baked potato comes free with the meal too!) Wonderful FLAKE Ice in their Tea makes it worth the drive in my book... If you go there, be SURE to check out the restrooms!  Way cool!!!

And the old timers here will tell ya that I'm a pretty big Olive Garden Fan too!

Gosh... now I'm hungry. :?

Pappy and Mike need to check this place out. It used to be a gas station but now its like a convenience store with a single wide attached to it that makes GREAT burgers.

They probably would add bacon. They had onions, chili, all sorts of stuff. I opted for extra cheeze and hot sauce.

I will have to take pics or something next time I go. And i hope that time is soon!

Took the kiddies to Casa Vallarta (on Battleground across from Wholly Guacamole) yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. (I know several of you have mentioned WG -- I've eaten there maybe 3 times, each time expecting it to be better, but I just don't like it.)

We had chicken chimichangas, chicken pollo, steak burrito and a comination plate. Also a banana chimichanga and a fried ice cream. Great service, clean and attractive restaurant and reasonable prices!! ♥♥♥ (Spilled coffee on my keyboard and wiped out my first post!!)

I'm sorry, Mr. Mike, but you'll have to do a lot better than a brains and egg sandwich if you want to get anywhere with me. My dad used to occasionally enjoy some brains and eggs (yuck!!). Right up there with liver in my book!

Sheesh... just had a running fit with Papa Johns on New Garden... they swear the spinach alfredo deluxe has always had chicken, whereas the ones I have received in the past never had chicken. I called another Papa Johns who said the pizza does NOT have chicken.... idiots

I like to tell folks that I am a second-hand vegetarian... I only eat animals that eat vegetables ;)

And while I won't eat chicken or turkey, I'll eat sushi - octopus, eel, urchin, and conch being favorites.

Sushi 101 on Tate Street is very good. they are some of the same people who ran Sushi Rock on Battleground.  Also there is a restaurant on Lee Street Akashi I think is the name. It is on the right past the Coliseum going towards the Mall. Excellent. Has great Japanese magazines on a table outside the rest rooms. I love to look at them. Very nice people. Good lunch menu. Have never eaten there for dinner. I love Sushi and Sashimi.

Just came back from Elizabeth's at the OR Commons, the food was good but the service was awful.  They were short staffed and they did what I think is the worst thing, they continued to seat people as if they had a full complement of staff.  While we were there at least two tables got up and left without ordering.  It would have be much better if they asked people to wait, and only seat the amount of people that they can serve properly.

It didn’t help that the hostess didn’t pitch in instead of just waiting for people to arrive and to seat them.

The McCafe just cannot seem to get it right .  My daughter ordered a chocolate milkshake, we started down the road and she found that it was a strawberry  shake instead. Maybe it needs to concentrate on being  an old school McDonalds.

On the other hand the chicken & shrimp scalipinne from the Macaroni grill @ Friendly was excellent, service great, just a good dining experience. and the birthday singers are top notch.

The Oak Ridge MacDonald’s hasn't quite gotten the process right yet.  The other day while in there for Breakfast there was a constant stream of people coming back up and saying they were missing this or that or hadn’t gotten their meal yet.   My personal peeve is I like their ice cream, nothing fancy simple ice cream, stop and get one fairly often.  Problem is the machine is reguarly not working, the other day ice cream was oozing out of the side of the machine.

Hey Ya'll! I know it's been forever - I've missed all the entertaining reading!!

I just had to post pronto though......

I've been denying the mini-Mc a trip to Applebees (her favorite restaurant) since I read here several months ago about some folks bad experiences there. Well, we braced ourselves and went there tonight and I just have to tell ya that I think they must have heard the complaints and fixed some things.

Our server was Rodney and he was very nice, prompt with refilling our beverages, even tried to get the secret recipe for the Maple Butter Blondie sauce for me from the kitchen staff

We had burgers - Aloha Burger (Yummy with a capital Y!), Quesadilla Burger, and a regular cheeseburger, Triple Chocolate Meltdown and the Maple Butter Blondie for dessert. We licked the plates clean!!

OK, I'm off to google "maple butter blondie sauce" - I could drink that stuff. I've got to know how to make it so I can get my fix at home :D

Anyway, you might want to give Applebees another chance......

This isn't a restaurant BUT you do get food here. Why are the people that work at Food Lion in Summerfield on Hwy 220 North so rude? Can anyone answer this question for me? Is it because it is a monopoly in Summerfield? I can't be the only one that feels this way. I took my money back to Greensboro where they APPRECIATE MY business!
