Wikipedia has an article on it with several links for further information.

Radar,
I contacted our local NCDOT engineer, Lane Hall, who told me this:

The US 220/NC 68 Connector begins at the intersection of NC 68 and US 220 in Rockingham County. It follows the US 220 alignment south to a point just south of the Haw River Bridge, then turns west on new alignment. It goes over Deboe Road with no ramps about midway between NC 150 and the dead end. Continuing southwest, crossing NC 150 just east of Armfield/Henson Forest with an interchange. Continuing southwest, crossing Brookbank Road just west of Banning Road with no ramps. Continuing southwest crossing Bunch Road just west of Northwest School Road with no ramps. Continuing south, crossing Alcorn Road just east of Golden Acres Road with no ramps and tying into existing NC 68 near Pleasant Ridge Road.
