This Topic is for voicing your thoughts about sports that are needed in Greensboro and Summerfield. I'll Start by saying that what greensboro needs is a full size Roller Hockey rink for our youth. What are your thoughts?

Where would you suggest Summerfield build it? The youth ballfields have been getting way too much agony for the past 10 years. We are finally getting to lock down on a location but there is much resistance from a small group of core citizens.

Is there a demand for Roller Hockey in the area? More kids seem to be interested in Skateboarding Parks. The youth have even came to parks and rec meeting suggesting this be added to the park. I really would like to see the kids get this, because they have personally asked for it. The town needs to take into consideration the views of our youth, and accommodate them as much as possible. If Roller Hockey is of interest, then let's find more.

I personally would love to see Summerfield build a community swimming pool on the Armfield property. Knowing the topography of the land, a  pool would be great in this location. The community pool at Oak Ridge used to be for all resident's for O.R. Summerfield and Stokesdale, but I have personally seen a drastic change in acceptance of other communities joining this club. Bur-mil is way to crowded, and can't even swim in the pool because of the large capacity of people in the pool. Parents could also get involved forming a swim team for the Summerfield youth and compete with Greensboro, Oak Ridge and other adjoining communities. This could be a great way to "trim the fat"-- and get our kids active year round.

2 things.

1. I can't let Rocesair be the only one posting in here with a football icon.

2. i do not think SF is the place for a roller hockey rink. Do they still set up a temp. one in the coliseum parking lot? If the interest is there, then build it, but i don't think the small towns outside of greensboro would be the place to build it.

What about roller derby? I used to love that show about the roller girls -wahtever it was called. haha.

edit: oh Rocesair, I apologize, as a Bama fan and NCSU fan, I completely forgot about UFs basketball accomplishment. Being a bama and NCSU fan the past several years, I am sure you understand why I overlooked this.

Roller Hockey is increasing rapidly in popularity. Colleges have teams. Some High Schools are forming teams( I know of 2 leagues in the Raleigh area alone). I play in a  Roller Hockey league at the Greensboro Sportsplex that is always full. The sportsplex is a good place to play but because of the size of the rink(way to small for regulation), they cant hold tournaments. There has been talk for years of a new sportsplex housing 2 rinks and a skate park going in somewhere in the summefield area but no such thing has happened. Every person who plays Roller Hockey at the sportsplex wants a bigger rink. As for SF not the place for a rink, the biggest Roller hockey facilities in the Carolinas are located in small towns next to large cities like Cary and Morresville.

Welcome to the forum Rocesair56!!!!  :D

I'm with Grits!  I'd love to see a community swimming pool! I'd also like for it to be affordable for the "regular people".;)

Where are high schools playing? Are any in Guilford County?

How long ago has it been since a sportsplex has been talked about being built in Summerfield? Have you thought about renovating the old Food Lion on 220? This might be a good location if there is a numerous amount of interested participants--ample square footage and adequate parking.

Could the Greensboro Coliseum host Roller Hockey events for all divisions participating? Seems to me the coliseum could use some exciting events since Greensboro let the Generals ice hockey team go.

There is no High School league for Guilford County. Raleigh has leagues beacause there are multiple rinks around raleigh. The problem with using places such as Food Lion is that there are support pillars coming down from the ceiling. Thats the problem with the Rink at the sportsplex, its half the width of a regulation rink because it was a shipping facility before it was the sportsplex. Coliseum sounds like a good idea but im sure ther is some reason why tournaments havent used it.

Lacross is a fast growing sport in this area. How about some places dedicated to that.

I mentioned a while back that I would like to see a "community center" that would include a better place for the kids to play basketball and for the girls to cheer lead.Growing up, the local community centers in Greensboro gave kids a place to meet during the day and in the evenings, a place where we could play basketball, ping pong, pool, tennis,etc.. It also had rooms that gave folks an opportunity to participate in square dancing, karate classes, aerobics classes, art classes, and general meetings.Just a thought, if we had to increase the tax rate for such a project, it may be best to just continue using the Greensboro facilities. I would not mind seeing it put to a community vote., if the majority is in favor , I think it would be a good thing.

I agree with you 100% Happy Camper!  Sounds like a wonderful idea!

I went to Lewis Rec when I was younger and they were set up much like that at the time - don't know if they still are.  I also spent time at the YMCA, but I can't afford that anymore. :?

I don't know what a moto x facility is. A bmx/mountain bike man-made built hill would be something to consider in the park. Country Park has one and the kids love it.
