After reading the latest update on water coming to Oak Ridge I figured I'd start a topic of real importance that should get everyone talking. What shape water tower should we ask/try to have Aqua put up? My vote is for one in the shape of an acorn since a water tower in the shape of an oak tree probably wouldn't work too well. We could make it in a shape of a brick so it will be historical though it will be outside the historical district so it doesn’t have to be historical. Serious, not so serious, and down right silly suggestions invited. |

Even though an acorn is the most logical shape, would it not be better in keeping with the town hall to be built out of different materials to give it that old added onto appearance. It should also be as unobtrusive as possible so one that will blend in with the sky would also be a good choice. |

In keeping with our rural roots, I suggest we paint it up to look like that water tank on the show "Petticoat Junction". We could hang some clothes off the side to make it look a little more authentic. "Petticoat Junction" - Wow - that sure says a bunch about my age! Last edited on Mar 26th, 2007 09:11 pm by mstone |

Well if Gaffney, SC can have a water tower shaped like a peach, I don't see why we can't have one that looks like an acorn. Or in celebration of our rural heritage, the fact that this is "horse country" (don't tell those people in Kentucky though) and that we've had a community charity horse show for nearly 65 years, how about a horse? rasin wrote: We could make it in a shape of a brick so it will be historical though it will be outside the historical district so it doesn’t have to be historical. If we really wanted it to be historical, we could have just moved the one that they tore down at the elementary school a couple of years ago. Last edited on Mar 27th, 2007 12:57 am by S. Smith |

I'm kind of dreading it, no matter what shape or color it ends up being. No matter what they do they still are a hideous visual blight. Can't they make them lower and longer rather than up high and "in your face"? I'm sure they can't but I can wish... |

I like Sandra's suggestion of a horse--we could have someone paint a mural on it that displays what Oak Ridge is all about. The acorn thing is cool with me, though. The Gaffney peach always makes me giggle whenever I see it, and I figure an acorn would have the same effect on me. |
