I'm just wondering what y'all think about what has been going on at Guilford College?

I think it's like the Duke lacrosse case.... better to hold off on judging this situation before all the facts are in.  Sounds to me like there's more than a couple of different vesrions of the story out there.  I'll bet the truth lies somewhere "betwixed and between".

Doesn't SMS have a kid at Guilford? Maybe he could fill us in about the "buzz" there right now....

I just went to http://www.guilford.edu to see what might be there. Must say I'm impressed. Right there on their home page is a topic you can click on:

Bryan Hall Incident FAQ and Updated Links (Updated Jan. 28)

Thoughtful responses to frequently asked questions...

Certainly commendable that the college has that link up.  Might help to dispel some of the rumors that tend to fly about when these things happen.....

I attended a basketball game at Guilford College this weekend (GO QUAKERS!!!:D)and thought it was noteworthy that they made an announcement before the game that no racial remarks would be tolerated during the game.  Do they announce that at all games or was it just because of the recent events?

(obviously I don't attend many ballgames :D).

Yes, my daughter is a freshman over there.   Sorry, this family knows nothing more than what we read in the news

Her very firm instructions from me from the beginning were:

Dear Old Dad is in the poor house sending you to a private college, all I want to see is grades, it's not supposed to be easy, therefore:

Let the upper classmen defend the school honor, you keep your nose to the grindstone

If there are any demonstrations, it will give you extra study time in the classroom

I am impressed with how well Guilford officials seem to be handling this. It appears that they will be using this incident as a learning experience for these kids. I heard talk of classes to discuss diversity.

Unlike what appears to have happened at Duke where the university got defensive.

I think both places could also probably do more to discourage drinking which appears to be the root cause of both incidents.

I still can't get over the lack of seeming outrage from the parents of the Lacrosse players that their kids were attending a party with that type of behaviour going on. My kids would have known better because they would have known if they were not lucky enough to be in jail their Mother would have finished them off.  College should be a priviledge not a 4 year party.

If the Palestinian students had had the upper hand in the fight and had been calling them stupid christians , would there had been as much of an outrage?
