I seem to remember we did this last year, but it's worth doing again. As you drive around town(s), take note of the locations of especially nice Christmas lights, and tell folks about them, so we can all enjoy. |

The Forestry Systems house 2 doors up from Summerfield's Town hall is decorated to the hilt already and will KNOCK your socks off! It is second only to Jim Flynt's display on 68 between Stokesdale and Oak Ridge! Last edited on Nov 27th, 2006 12:37 am by Cracker Jax |

For those willing to travel just a few miles up the highway, here is a home/farm worth checking out. Please note that the information below is courtesy of Wikipedia. Casville, NC is about 45 minutes from the Northwest area. Casville is an unincorporated community in Caswell County, North Carolina at the crossroads of US 158 and Ashland Rd/Park Springs Rd. Every winter Caswell residents Bill and Gloria Gaither Paschal decorate their yard and cabins with over a million Christmas lights (approximately 1,040,000 lights in 2004) and miscellaneous decorations. The extravaganza has attracted local and national attention; a news special was even featured on the Fox News Channel in 2005. Gospel music is played throughout the entire display to convey messages of hope and redemption. The attraction is open to the local public and is free of charge; donations help fund the Paschals' approximate $10,000 electric bill generated by the light show. The couple says they "do it for Jesus because he's the reason for the season." Well, you forgot to mention that Pappy hangs out up there in Caswell County Mr. Jim! From the article: Inside the train station building is an “old-timey” scene, Leon said, complete with a hillbilly tilting back a jug.... |

Pappy in Caswell County? A hillbilly? Tilting back a jug? An old timey scene? Is this is vision of Christmas Past or Christmas Present? (We better go ask Ebeneezer quick!) Now there's a scene I would like to put up on my roof in lights! hee hee |

On a smaller scale of those already mentioned. Come down 150W in Summerfield and the first house, on the left in Somersby is just beautiful.... all those red and white lights! LottieDottie |

A very unusual and beautiful sight: go down Pleasant Ridge Road towards 68, turn right onto White Blossom, then turn right onto Faye Drive. If I remember correctly it's the first house on the left. You can't miss this one even from a distance you are asking "what is it"? Just look up in their trees and you will see a forest of lights. The homeowner has placed lighted balls way up high in the trees, all around the house. LottieDottie |

Sandra, I will get in gear and post the best decorated homes in the Stokesdale area no later than tomorrow evening (I'll send you an email as well). I had a nice list of decorated homes but several folks decided to decorate this past weekend, and I need to update locations and addresses. For those of you who drove by my house after the Stokesdale Tree Lighting, I only had up about 35,000 lights then, and as of this afternoon, I now have up 100,000 lights and expect to be finally finished by tomorrow. Please drive by again as your holiday time allows. |

I don't know if you guys have seen this or not, but it's kind of interesting. A guy in Winston-Salem hooked up a ton of lights to his house. You can to go his website and turn the lights off and on via computer. Go to http://www.controltheshow.com. (He says his neighbors love it, but I'm glad I don't live beside him!) |

As an update to my earlier post last evening about WGHP Channel 8, they did not run the story last night about the lights in my yard, but after chatting with them this afternoon, they have advised me they will be running the segment on their Channel 8 Fox 10 O' Clock News. I have also told Channel 8 about how beautiful the Forestry Systems house in Summerfield is decorated and they told me they would visit, film and broadcast a segment about that property along Highway 150 in downtown Summerfield too! Thank goodness your news story was delayed for a day Jim! I didn't get to watch last night so I'll go ahead and set the DVR now so I won't miss it tonight! Congrats! Sandra, I heard about the "control the show" website last year, and the site was only open from like 5 to midnight. The server was always so busy, I never got a turn to try. I'll be sure to check it out this year. |

JIM!!!!!! That was a WONDERFUL story! I watched it online and then again on TV. Those big Fox 8 dummies chopped it off at the end and left out the best part of the interview where you talked about those lights being your gift to the community and how you love the smell of Christmas trees! I hate when they edit stories like that, but I'm glad you posted the link so we could see the whole story! Congrats again! So proud of you!! BTW... Loved your dogs!!! |

Here's another lighting display you guys might want to check out. • 7926 Eversfield Road, Stokesdale. Obie and Lisa Harris say they spend about two weeks setting up all their lights on their property at the corner of Eversfield and Ellison roads. |

I have spent several evenings driving around in the Summerfield, Oak Ridge and Stokesdale areas and here are the best ones I have seen so far: 5719 Bunch Road, Oak Ridge (Craig Westergaard) Loads of Lights 7576 Haw Meadows Drive, Stokesdale (Arbor Run SD) Blow Mold Heaven with hundreds of lighted candy canes and quite a collection of lighted blow molds. 8133 Spotswood Drive (Off Highway 220 North) Summerfield as well as homes on each side of this address. Light city with lots of interesting decorations including animated ornaments. 7807 Charles Place Drive, Stokesdale next to Arbor Run 7403 Somersby Drive, Summerfield off Highway 150 on the left past Food Lion headed east. This is perhaps the most elegantly decorated home in the Northwest with very nice, neat use of only two colors (red and white) to give it a decorator look. Very nice! 4105 Oak Ridge Road, Summerfield (Forestry Systems House) The standard by which Christmas decorating should be measured. A Must See! And I hear there is a rather large 'tacky' display of lights somewhere along Highway 68 North between Stokesdale and Oak Ridge, which is yet to be confirmed. (7743 NC Highway 68 North) I will add others as I continue my explorations around the Northwest. Last edited on Dec 15th, 2006 05:28 pm by Jim Flynt |

There are several homes on McCrory Road (the one that goes by the Stokesdale ballpark) that always have nice displays, especially in the area near the park. There is also a small house on Ellisboro Road, behind the Stokesdale Post Office, that is always lit with lots of white lights. It is clearly visible from Hwy 158. Some of the houses along Stokesdale Street are also pretty. (also visible from 158) The Stokesdale Fire Station has also been decorated this year, with lights along the roofline. I understand that a couple of the younger firefighters decided to do this for the community! |

I drove over to Caswell County last night to see the 1.5 million lights on display at the home of Bill & Gloria Pascal on Ashland Road in the Casville community. The lights were unbelievable but the crowds staggered the imagination. There easily were 500 people walking through this property and perhaps as many as 1,000. The Pascals have several log cabins which are decorated and open to the public and an outdoor train set which is immense. It is well worth the short drive over to see this, and by driving over via 150, it is not all that long of a drive from the Northwest. I drove over to Casville via Highway 158 and have never seen so many homes along Highway 158 so decorated and well decorated. In coming back via Highway 150, from Browns Summit to Summerfield was simply one beautiful light display after another. I then visited several subdivisions in the Summerfield area and must mention that the entire Hillsdale Lakes is worth seeing as the light reflections across the lake are unequalled in the Northwest area. Well worth seeing. In general, I have just never seen so many homes in almost every direction one turns which are decorated, and it is becoming increasingly difficult if not impossible to weed out the best, as they are all decorated so nicely. Whether a family has one candle in a window or two or three sets of lighted candles in their windows or a yardful of lights and figurines, for each family, these decorations represent their individual joy and love at this wonderful time of year and their hopes for brighter days and events in the new year to come. And this year in particular, more people just seem so much more inclined to surround themselves with the symbols of the Nativity and our holiday heritage than ever before. |

If you've seen the lighted balls on Faye Dr., then you'd have to see the explosion of lighted balls on Madison Avenue/Greenway off Friendly Avenue. I was lucky enough to find this by accident and it's amazing. |

Someone told her about these lights, and she went by to see them when she was shopping over at Friendly Center. Jim's lights were fantastic. I also went by to see some of the others you guys took the time to post here. Thanks to those of you who contributed to the ongoing list. We were going to print it in the paper, but with all the news in the area, we ran slap out of space. I did post the list on our Web site a couple of times before Christmas and kept updating it. |

Don't even keep them lit for your birthday!!???!!! ♥♥♥ Well, as they say, all good things must come to an end. Macca, I had the lights out on New Year's Eve since it was raining outside, and I never cut them on in rainy weather due to the threat of electrical shock. In the past, when I have tried cutting them on while raining, I either got slightly shocked or the circuit breakers will kick in and cut the power to the circuits. Generally I do burn them through New Year's Eve. Stay tuned for next year's display though. The Best is yet to come! I found lots of really nice sales on Christmas lights, both before and after Christmas, so there will be a lot more to see in 2007, including a lighted drive around.
