I would like some opinions on which bank I should change to. Currently with SunT..... Can i mention them if I am not satisfied? Used to be CCB , never a problem with them. Now is a different story. Besides upping all the limits there rates are low that they pay out. But hey it was good to see the remodeling they did in Stokesdale office,I was just glad to see my money doing something.

ff12......no problem with mentioning the banks name as long as you backup your comments with why you are dis-satisfied, which you have done.

It's not surprising that since the big fish has swallowed the smaller fish,  the bigger fish isn't as customer loyal as the little one was.

It will be interesting to hear what our participants have to say about their banking preferences.

I'm leaving Suntrust too ff12.  For the same reasons you stated above.

I like the folks at the Bank of Oak Ridge (Summerfield) a lot.  They work hard to find low rates/decent interest and have even been known to treat you like a real person instead of an account number.

Wachovia (@ Westridge) has also been good to us but I would suppose it depends on the services you need. I've been with them since they were First Union and the transition was much better than the one from CCB to Suntrust.

I think it's like choosing a Dr. or anything else... there are good experiences and bad ones.  So far with the two I listed above, my experiences have always been good. :D

Oh yea... Wachovia's online banking is a snap!   I haven't ever gotten logged on to the CCB/Suntrust online banking. It was a nightmare.

Haven't tried the Bank of Oak Ridge online banking.  Don't even know if they offer it.

I have had discussions with Bank of NC, and they seem to want me there, indicated by great int. rates on money market and cd ,savings were about the same but checks are free as long as you meet minimums which are way lower than Suntrust.

I'm with SunT & don't have any problems with them.  We chose them bc they have a branch up here in the 'dale & I get online all of the time.  Also have free checking!  They have a variety of different types of cking accts... the free one is totally free... I have yet to pay a fee (unlike Wachovia or like my bro says "watch-over-ya money goin into their pocket":P).  Anyway... the deal with the CDs is market based.  No one offered good rates with the interest was down.  Now that it is on its way up, you will see better rates for CDs as well.  (it is a finance thing)  ;)

Pappy used to be with "Walkoverya" till they started makin' up fees if you didn't have enough fees. Then I went with CCB, 'cause they treated Pappy better. When SunTrust bought 'em out, I noticed a few more fees an' I don't like their online features quite as good.

Now it seems like ol' Wachovia has improved quite a bit since them days. I dunno. I need to look around some more my own self fer when I win the lottery. Hee hee!

Thanks fer startin' this topic, ff! It'll be interestin' to see some more opinions. I'm lookin' fer a bank that gives away free money samples, too.

One bank that will not get any of my business is Bank of Amer. If you have not heard about how they had a guy arrested after he wnet to a bank branch asked for check verification on a check he had received for payment of a bicycle he had sold. They told him it was good and when he tried to cash it they arrested him for check fraud. Spent one day in jail and 14,000 in legal fees. BOA did inform the police that they were mistaken, the guy that was arrested asked for them to reimburse him for the 14,000 and a public apology. THEY REFUSED to admit to any thing, Clark Howard has been advocating for people to leave BOA, the Pres. of BOA has been on the radio with Clark and tried to move the story away from them and finally hid behind a California law.

I read on Clark's site that over $50 million had been withdrawn from BOA as a result of his website http://www.clarkhoward.com.  This is great as it shows the consumer is still King!  See excerpt from his site below:

How the BOA blunder went down

By now, you’ve probably heard the story of the San Francisco man who was arrested and jailed when he tried to verify the validity of a check at Bank of America branch. Clark found out about this story recently and today talked with the man, Matthew Shinnick, who spent about $14,000 in legal fees to clear his name. It all started when Shinnick posted two bicycles for sale on Cragislist and received a check from a man for more than the cost of the bicycles. He went into a BOA branch to see if the check was legitimate and verify that there was money in the person’s account. The check was drawn on a BOA account. The teller told him it was a valid account, so he cashed the check. At that point, BOA employees called police and Shinnick was arrested on fraud charges because the check was actually fraudulent. Matthew had no idea that the real criminal had used the name of a legitimate company to fake a check. So, Matthew sat in the bank branch for hours while police figured out what to do with him. Then, they took him to jail where he spent the night. Once he got out and a judge let him go, he had to clear his name legally so the arrest would not come back to haunt him. He had to hire attorneys to do this and it cost him nearly $14,000. He then went to Bank of America and asked that the bank cover his fees because it was the bank’s error. But BOA turned him down. This kind of treatment sends the message that banks only care about their bottom line, not about their customers. It's unacceptable and Clark thinks it's time to fight back.

And that's where it should have ended. That's the oldest scam in the book. I can't believe people are still falling for it.

Personally, my spouse and I have both had our identities stolen. BOA was "johnny-on-the-spot" in cancelling the compromised cards. Also, they refunded the money lost the next day. Without question.

Also, I love their online banking service with my checking and savings linked, not to mention the credit card.... All on one log-in. Bill Pay is a breeze and saves a ton on stamps and time.

Do as you wish, but  I wouldn't let one guy in CA, who fell for the oldest scam in the book, sway my opinion. I'm sure I could find a number of horror stories for ANY and EVERY bank.

Oh yeah, and as for SunT... I droppped them like a hot a potatoe when CCB sold out. I refuse to pay for my banking services when I can get it ALL free! That's crazy. Not to mention their online banking left much to be desired.;)

What do you have to do to get it all free at SunT?

In order to remain competitive, I'm sure they had to. I never looked back after I left. I just didn't like their attitude (customer service, I guess you could say) in the transition. Back then they were talking fees, etc.

I checked into Bank of Oak Ridge at one time, but they seemed to REALLY have some fee action going on. Is anyone using them now? Are they competitive?

I haven't checked recently, but at one time I was going to switch from what was then CCB to Bank of OR until I discovered, as you did, that it wasn't worth it. At least CCB was convenient..... Now, though, you're right, it seems there's a fee for everything. Maybe I don't have enough money to qualify for "free" services! :X

Maybe the banks have finally wised up and hired Willie Sutton as an advisor and now they is robbing us.
