The Stokesdale Post Office is long overdue for replacement. In addition to the building's small size, especially in relation to the growth of the community and postal patrons, the parking is grossly inadequate, with one handicapped space and one regular parking space. Patrons of the post office say it's a nightmare to park there, yet the U.S. Postal Service says it has no plans on the books to build a new facility. Do you ever go to the post office, and if so, how do you feel about the facility and the parking?
Besides setting up this topic on the forum, Cindy Reise, our community survey reporter, will be conducting a survey in Stokesdale on the above topic. If you would be willing to share any comments about the post office "for the record," please e-mail cindy@nwobserver.com.

As a new member of the community in Stokesdale, I feel the PO issue needs some serious addressing
All kidding aside, it is a nightmare to go and pick up your mail. The lack of parking even for a quick run in is nearly impossible. The location lends to the problem, since there is really one parking space in front of the PO if it is occupied when you arrive you have to get off the street so as not to block traffic flow. When you try to get off the street you are probably blocking someone else froming coming in or our of the parking lot or taking the spaces for the other businesses in that block. How big does Stokesdale have to get to warrant a bigger, safer location?

I, personally, try to avoid having to go the PO in Stokesdale... it is truly a NIGHTMARE! I cannot understand why the gov't folks won't even cosider a larger facility... the term "growth" comes to mind somehow.....

Having just come back from down east (beach area) couldnt help but remember all of the really nice post offices in towns with smaller populations I saw while traveling. Maybe we need to get our state congressional leaders from our area to "suckup" to Sen. Marc Basnight , he seems to get lots of money for areas east of Raleigh.

There are some things I can see both sides of but I can't see how anyone could say a new Post Office(due to horrible parking) is not needed.

Maybe its like the criteria for stoplights; someone has to be killed crossing the road first. And then they will study it.
